Joker: Yeah, I caught that eventually. That armor makes it real fun at level 7 with 50 something Marksmanship. I ended up going back to silver arrows and picking him off in town while he was walking back to the tower. I sniped him at max distance without being able to zoom. You can get a few sneak attacks off on the same target that way.
On the subject of light armor without the skill:
It still offers protection to you even if you don't have the skill. It doesn't offer as much and it degrades faster. Some protection is better than no protection, especially if you're doing wet work.
You don't have to have formal training in a bullet proof vest to wear it and have it stop a bullet, for example.

Perhaps I wasn't clear but yeah that is what I was getting at. Anyone can wear any type of armor, having the skill which goes with it just increases your skill with it.
Since Duo's character's other skills are so heavily leaning towards magic then I would assume that the character wears the leather armor as a asthetic quality and probably as a "ohshit" back up. Primarily his battle mage probably protects herself with spells, so therefore the light armor skill is not a huge requirement.

Misthral Jaydine -X Duo Yiro X- Joker, how's my character so far? I realize I'm not joker but since i'm one of the VC's i'll give my input. Your character profile looks pretty great for still being unfinished and I look forward to reading his bio as it gets put up. There are only two things I would like to point out. One if he wears any armor at all, and since you put that he wears leather armor, it would be necessary to have light armor as one of his seven attributes. Also, since he uses magic it is necessary to specify which level each school is. Example, one can start out journeyman while another can start out the level below that and the third or any more would need to start out at novice. Make sense? If I may offer my input. The light armor skill offers this. Oblivion Wiki * For a Novice, light armor degrades rapidly with use (150% of normal rate) * An Apprentice's light armor degrades at a normal rate * A Journeyman's light armor degrades at 50% slower rate * An Expert's equipped light armor does not encumber them at all * When a Master wears only light armor, they gain a bonus of 50% to the armor rating of that armor Skill Benefits As your light armor skill increases, the protection provided by light armor increases So you can wear light armor and benefit from it without the light armor skill. So Duo's character doesn't need to have the light armor skill, but he will need to take into account that without it, his armor will be more likely to get damaged and he won't have the perks of not being encumbered by it. Also without it, he won't recieved protection bonuses of the like. Maybe his character is just wearing it to look snazzy? or blend in with a crowd? maybe he uses other means to protect himself? But that is just my input, Jaydine is right Light armor skill is good if you rely on light armor to protect you but you could also wear the light armor and boost your defenses with spells. I thanl you both for your input, but I'm going to have to go with Jaydine's proposal. Light Armor will be my main defense, besides the flashy robe; referring to my picture. On a second note, I really don't know what to put for a Bio. >.< - I some times mess up or make it too long/short. It's amazing how my mind works better without sleep. So the, I'll make the changes and add the Appearance description, giving a reason why my character looks Caucasion and not African. (I know my spelling may be off, I didn't use Word.) Another Side note - Seeing that My character will also have the robe on, I'll only use light armor for quest and such, but while in the comfort of an inn and such I'll wear the robe. Now, I'm off to edit his appearance. Ov'wa! (Good bye.)

Is the appearance to everyone's liking? I wanted to go deeper in detail, but I got bored with it. I may pick it back up and explain how he got the metal glove and metal foot brace on his left arm. That's the only reason I picked him, is becasue he was left handed. >.<
By the way, I just sparked some seriously long Bio from just the appearance. It'll start like this...
JAYDINE DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T LIKE PROFILE SPOLIERS!!! A long, long time ago, in a galxasy far far away, your momma was pregnat and she had you >.< XD that would make me feel ancient, but no it'll start with a past race I'll make up that split's into two types and one dies off leaving the 'Redguards'. Then I can go into him being born then going into hiding at 14. Then training under a Battle Mage, in hiding, till 18, THen coming out to finally be with his race, to learn their trade, to become a true battle mage.
Once I do that I'll post about his boot and glove

@ Mis: Hey can you tell me what I need to add for the light armor benifits, or you can do it, I'm completely oblivious to that part as well as the ranking, I see what you mean by the Mage's Guild Rank and all but I don't know what top put >.<

@ duo: I am not sure I am following what you mean? You mean the benefits for having the light armor skill? I listed those before in that quote from the Oblivion wiki.
As for the mage guild rank, as far as I know everyone starts out in the bottom rank the guild possesses and can work their way up by doing quests.

Cold: I only got a view of west Texas from the interstate. Didn't seem like there was much out there.
Duo: You just swap the skill in for one of your other ones, probably whatever is least beneficial to you being a Battle Mage. Light Armor, or even Heavy Armor is a good choice if you're planning on fighting up close.
If you're sticking to the Battle Mage skills that are on the Wiki, just drop either Blade or Blunt from your character sheet and swap in Light Armor. You only need one of the two.
If you want the option of fighting with either or both(?), then it comes down to spells. Destruction seems like a necessity, and Conjuration's going to let you summon armor and weaponry.
So it comes down to Alteration and Mysticism. Without letting a personal bias I have towards Mysticism come into it - Alteration will primarily give you Shield spells for reduced damage and a neat little bag of tricks. Mysticism will let you fill Soul Shards for enchanting items, reflect all kinds of damage, let you see life force through walls, and give you Telekinesis.
I didn't want to bring this up, but having Mysticism is like having the Force.

Yes. Alchemy is a huge bag of tricks in comparison. It's only real draw back is that it's time consuming.
Double damage poisons rock a**, too. I know with Marksmanship and the right enchantments on your bow and arrows you can rack up like 1000 damage over 30 seconds. Which is more than poison apples do. Insanity. That's without juggling between a ranged and melee to get your *6 multiplier.

You'll always end up upgrading that faster than any other skill in the long run. Think about it- you eat stuff? Upgrade. Make potions? Massive upgrade. Make POISON? Upgrade. You really can't ever LOSE alchemy skill either- ever been incarcerated? Alchemy seems to be the one skill I never really lose skill in, even after being in jail for over a year. I know it's cheap, but with assassins like my PC, Reh'Zheel, alchemy is a necessity that doesn't really have to be tagged, because in the end it's their most useful skill, and the one they use most frequently.
