Terryn smiled and stepped into the carriage. "Perhaps we should have the driver clean up the Evelyn traces once we get to the estate." She leaned back in her seat and smiled, feeling fluttery. "He knows the way?"

Marcus confirmed this with a nod, and instructed the driver to go to his estate in South Scotland. The driver stared at him, crossed himself, and managed a brief, "Alright, then."
Marcus stepped into the carriage and took a seat next to Terryn, and the wheels began to roll.

As soon as the carriage began moving, Terryn felt her stomach jolt a little from nervousness. She grabbed tightly onto Marcus's hand, trembling ever so slightly, and looked up to him with a sort of unsure smile. She did want to do this, yes, but what had she done? She was leaving behind her father, running away from home, and for what? A playboy with a witty mind?

Marcus mistook Terryn's apprehension for excitedness, and squeezed her hand as well, smiling widely at her. "This is the estate I was telling you about earlier--with the rose garden. It's heavenly in the summertime, but I'm sure it's nice all year round," he assured her. "And it's quite spacious, too, and I think you'll find it fairly comfortable."

Terryn nodded, clearing her throat before she was able to speak. "Yes...it should be...should be exciting." She took a deep breath, forcing herself not to look back a tthe manor as it disappeared into the distance.

The Duchess happened to glance out of the window when she suddenly noticed that Marcus and Terryn were no longer on the bench. "My dear," she began, scanning the garden for any hint of the couple. "Did you hear them come inside?"

"Hrmm?" The earl finished up his cup of tea and walked back over towards the windows, peering out to the gardens. "No...I did not. Did you?"

"No...but they are not there." The Duchess's worry lines began to show, and her voice was troubled. "They are most likely in Terryn's room, are they not?"

"Probably..." The earl bit on his bottom lip as he scanned the gardens once more. "It is not as though they could have run off or anything."

"Right, of course. Terryn, if not Marcus, is much too sensible for that." But the lines on her forehead only deepened as her eyes confirmed that the two were, indeed, not in the garden. "Do you suppose we should go check?"

The earl nodded. "It would not hurt." Terryn had been so different ever since meeting Marcus, that honestly he was unsure as to what she would and would not do anymore.

The Duchess hurried up the stairs as quickly as she could, and knocked timidly on Terryn's door. When she got no answer, she knocked louder, and finally heaved the door open (which wasn't saying much). "They are...gone."

The earl gulped. "They can not have gone far..." He entered the room and started searching around the room for a trace of where they might have gone. "Terryn's closet is near empty..."

The Duchess had no answer to this. But soon, she found the note that Marcus had set on Terryn's desk, and as she read, her head began to spin. Marcus. Promptly, she fainted.

"Do you think that-" The earl spun around, hearing a bang on the ground. He rushed to the duchess and knelt down, scooping her up (he had quite the strength for a man of his age) and laying her on the bed before picking up the note. "Dear Grandmother and Earl...oh Holy Lord..." He exited the room, finding one of his servants and requesting he fetch some smelling salts. He returned to the room and sat on the bed next to the duchess, reading and rereading the note.
