Lloyd TheOneAndOnly xNew York Slavex Ugh...can I make a Psychology section for people that would like to make their RPCs with Mental Illness? It just bugs me when people make RPCs and say that they have a multiple personality and list schizophrenia.
Multiple Personality: Actually called Dissociative Identity Disorder; 9/10 cases of this mental illness are fictional and can be proven otherwise. No systematic, empirically-supported definition of "dissociation" exists. Least two distinct and relatively enduring identities or dissociated personality states that alternately control a person's behavior, and is accompanied by memory impairment for important information not explained by ordinary forgetfulness. The "Original" is never to be shown, there is nothing proving that the 'original' exists anymore. The enduring personalities 'absorb' the other personality, so the ability to switch between personalities or one shoving the other to the side is completely false.
Schizophrenia: This is characterized by the complete breakdown of the personality, thought process and poor emotional responsiveness. It most commonly manifests itself as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking, and it is accompanied by significant social or occupational dysfunction. The symptoms manifest themselves in Adulthood (being 16 & up generally speaking).
Schizophrenia does not imply a "split personality", or "multiple personality disorder" (which is known these days as dissociative identity disorder)—a condition with which it is often confused in public perception. Rather, the term means a "splitting of mental functions", because of the symptomatic presentation of the illness.
And if you want to debate me thats fine, I warn you now...i have a Masters in Abnormal Psychology and a Minor in Personality
thank you, but to be honest thats not the only thing people misunderstand, but it's good to know that there is someone out there keeping watch ^ ^ Misunderstands make me sad, humans fear what they dont understand and we clump all the negative into a column and blast it.
