Marcus failed to notice Terryn's sudden withdrawal of enthusiasm. "Who cares? It doesn't matter. Where do you want to go?" Suddenly, he straighted, and a smile spread across his entire face. "Oh, we can go to the manor in South Scotland. We'd be able to reach by early morning tomorrow, if we leave now."

"Really? Tomorrow?" That would mean missing Serina's return...but it might also worry her father. "We should probably leave a note though. Tell them that we are going on a small getaway."

"Yes, yes, that's fine. We can't use the front door, of course," he mused, already planning their escape. "We could slip out of your bedroom window, perhaps. Let's go inside," he urged, standing up quickly.

Terryn nodded and took his hand, feeling a nervous sort of feeling stir up in her stomach. "Alright...my room is right above the front drive. We can go right to the coach."

"Come on, then," replied Marcus, now positively beaming and heading into the house.

Terryn moved as swiftly as she could through the manor, sneaking through the main room as she climbed the stairs to her room. She shut the door behind them and started looking through her bureau for things she could bring easily.

Marcus, meanwhile, had found a piece of parchment and a quill.
Dear Grandmother and Earl,
I have thought about what you've said, and decided to get my priorities in order. Terryn and I will be away for some time--a fortnight at the most. If we wish to extend our vacation, you will be alerted by post. Please do not worry.
Yours, Marcus

Terryn packed her things and placed them on her bed, looking over Marcus's shoulder as he wrote. "I am sure my father will be pleased to hear that. Or he will go into cardiac arrest."

"Nothing to be worried about," replied Marcus airily, getting up and kissing Terryn quickly without warning. He was excited. "We should get a bag to put this in," he decided, gesturing to Terryn's things.

"Right, there is one in my drawer." Terryn pulled out the old travelling bag, which was worn and obviously hadn't been used in years, and stuffed her clothing into it. "Where should we put the note?"

Marcus hesitated. "Leave it here. They're bound to look." His face flushed, he quickly pried open the window and held out his hand. One foot was already on the windowsill."Let's go."

"Right." Terryn looked down at the grass beneath her and sighed. "You first." It wasn't very high up, hardly a dangerous jump, and she had actually escaped that way various times. This time, however, she felt a little nervous.

Marcus looked at Terryn curiously, but shrugged. He took Terryn's bag from her and jumped. Moments later, he landed, disoriented but whole, and looked up. "Come down now."

Terryn nodded and looked back into her room for what would be the last time in weeks. She walked away and unlocked the door for them to get in before she jumped over the edge of the window, landing deftly on her feet.

Marcus smiled and took Terryn by the hand, leading her to the coach. "I wouldn't advise putting your things on the drool covered seat," he advised, opening the door.
