Rogier vander weyden

1435, oil on wood, christ being taken down from cross, figures set in a stage, this probably served as an alterpeice. Framing-the painting to center arched, mary and jesus are in teh same pose, some of the other figures reflect eachother, it all guides the eye, it looks like jesus would fall into the viewers lap

manuscripts, start to take on more pronounced charasteristics, 3-D images, new relationship with viewer, limted space between the viewer and the book.


the limbourg brothers, hennequin, pol, and herman-all died in the black death

book of hours for Jean, the duke of berry, 1340, 1416, les tres riches heures (i think that's french) the calender depicts the duke and his relationship with the pesants

the newyears feast repsrents ... the new years feast with a taptestry and detail and all that.

nertherlands... claus sluter and the well of moses-he died before its' completion.

chartresuse de champmol, dijon france in 1395-1406, limestone and paint (once)

this was a symoblic fountain of life, it promised everylasting life, realistic rendered fgures, paint added to help realisim, commisoned by philip the gold, the figures sort of look like gothic jamb statues.
