Erm, potatoes should be firm when you use them. If they feel a little bit soft when you give them a bit of a squeeze then they're usually still okay for mashed potato.
And they're still usable when they're sprouting a little too.
You'll know when they're really inedible.
When I was in my first year at uni, there was a bag of potatoes that got left under the sink over Christmas. They were there for easily a month at least. If not two.
You don't want to know what it looked or smelt like. But it was horrific.

I realise that this isn't a specific time frame. Usually about a week, maybe two at a push?

Just....damn. I've only smelt one bad potato in my life, and to imagine multiples in a bag under a SINK for at least a month?! I could cry thinking about the stench. ; A ;
Potatoes should be able to last up to three weeks if you keep them cool. I've never really seen or ate a moldy looking potato, so I dunno if you can. . u .; *isn't very helpful*

Well, if they're a little soft then they're okay for mash.
But if they're really squishy then I wouldn't eat them!
I know some people that keep their potatoes refrigerated. I dunno if that helps them at all or not :/
Also, sometimes a potato has a slight greeny tinge when you cut into them. If the rest of the potato is firm, just cut the green bit off.

Well, one bag of them anyways. I forgot they were even there.
I rarely eat anymore, lol.
And they've sort of grown into OTHER THINGS.

giving us colds and sore throats -- we're not used to it.
I need to just go live somewhere hot. I need a few million for my early retirement.

If they really wanted that idea, they could have easily done it in some other month! This thread here had some WONDERFUL suggestions for October. I really REALLY wanted some Umineko no naku koro ni referenced items too. I wanted to cosplay as either Beatrice or Shannon. gonk Or a Goat Butler. Edit: I even see that the Seven Stakes of Purgatory was referenced, though that's...somewhat obtainable already with some items. Maybe I should cosplay as one of them~ But no. *grumblegrumblegrumble* What makes it worst is that they do not have the Hufflepuff recolor of Wizard School. gonk TWO MONTHS NOW. TWO MONTHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
