ugh...I can't see how it needs a sequel. And when was that movie even made? Isn't it a bit late for a sequel?

It's not hollywood desperation. The movie was pushed for by the creator ever since the first one was made in 99. A lot of the reason it was made was because of rabid fan support. It's not even getting a full release.

Edit: I am fairly excited about it as I was a big fan of the first film.
