Winter Break has been pretty good on this end. We helped my sister and her husband move into their new apartment in the snow and ice, which was a fun event in its own way. Our big Christmas activity involved a vat of peanut oil in the backyard, which we used to fry fish, potato fries, mushrooms, asparagus, onions, and bean pods. That was a good meal. mrgreen

Tasty too! ^_^ My dad and brother-in-law used an episode of Good Eats as a reference, the one where Alton Brown fries a turkey (we tried that one year, but couldn't keep the oil temperature constant enough to cook it all the way through). My dad rigged up a rope and pulley system by setting up a ladder over the oil vat and hanging a small pulley from it. That way, we could lower the fry basket into the oil without getting in spatter range. Of course, that was more important when we tried to fry the turkey, but safety first!
