That is way the hell a bad decision on the part of whoever is making that game. I guess I'd have to resign Kael to Siegfried if all the characters play like they did last time, assuming no one has vastly different styles/looking weapons.

That's definitely the one thing that I'm kind of annoyed about with the game. I really miss those additional weapon styles and the ability to switch between them.
It's also a bummer that I unlocked the chick who uses a two-sword style and, because she falls into the special character category, I can't use her style.

Cervantes' style kind of works for Rage, since it's two swords... although I could also use Talim's since it more closely emulates his tendency to rely on high-energy hand-to-hand combat and deception over using his blades.
It would also eliminate the need to explain how he can now teleport 12 feet into the air.
