Lord Haelstrom
Sigil, your character's female Ryugi Kazamaru.

It's not your fault.

I still don't know who that is.

Completely honest.

This isn't for you.

At least it does not seem like it. So now you know that.

It seems to work for a large group of people. We have our debates and discussions, but at the end of the day, we do keep coming back. No one will tell you it's perfect or it ever will be.

I will also agree you got screwed. I think it was part of being newer to this particular community and the GTB's reeeeally really really ********' vague and inconsistent power level.

I feel like HoH does a better job of that, and the codex/ruleset is a lot more conclusive on what will or will not fly. Again, not perfect, but better.

Personally, I'd rather see people adapt and stay, grow the community rather than lose people. All the bullshit aside, I mean that.

But not if you don't enjoy it and you don't see any sense in it for you. If you're all about something more competitive, then I'll save you any more time and trouble and tell you that you will not find it here.

If you would like to keep participating, there's plenty of us who will be glad to offer our insights as to how you can do better. Tres is a prime example and he's already been doing that with you. I'll put all my BS aside and do the same.

But if you come at it like "lol judges can't even read, dunno what forcefield is" or "lol my opponent breaks laws of time and space" then yeah, expect some hot and heavy debate. And it won't be pleasant. We like it rough. >=3

lol People actually make this argument.

And the HoH's sense of balance was the same vagueness. They said "think fighting games like SNK." Everything else was told to you through profile judging.

I know it's crazy, right!?

That would mean you would be wrong, and that's not possible.

Bunch of ********' salty sore-a** losers, ya ask me.

Keep doing what you do, Vin! Never change! =)

I'm not wrong because the player is also not wrong. That's why we grade profiles, to make the player wrong. Or to say they're right.

lol Vintrict thinking he even has a refutation for what isn't even an argument, but a point of indisputable fact about the tournament.

No one's making the argument because it's a fact. It's been proven, repeatedly. Mark it right up there with gravity as a law of the universe.

Plus, as you said. HoH tells you in profile grading what they want. You don't. Somehow. Still not sure what the point of profile grading is at that point.

Also, part of roleplaying in a tournament is learning to balance "what's possible" and "what's probable." Things can be technically sound but still not really make a lot of sense, and you also have to realize that things are never going to be realistic from a technical standpoint. There's going to be bends and tweaks, there's going to be some deviations from reality because it's nearly - if not completely - impossible to properly replicate reality within roleplay, when it comes to combat.

The key is learning when someone is bending the rules, and when they're breaking them. You have to make sense and be logical, but if you expect a photorealism replica of real world combat, that's not going to happen. No fighter does it. nor can any roleplayer do it; I don't care what they think or say. You can never account for, nor replicate, reality. What we do is a stylized, glossed over variation. So you have to learn to give and take, otherwise you're gonna pull your hair out over the inconsistencies within both your posts and your opponents.

I never said it wasn't wrong. Because if anyone could read another person's intentions perfectly, then communication would be easy as looking into each other's eyes and going "mhm." I'm not going to pretend that level of clarification exists. Until an objective system is adapted, profile grading is the best way to go about it.

But that requires you to actually grade profiles, and to do it with the point of balancing them.

The former doesn't really happen that much in the GTB, by all appearances, and when it does it apparently rarely happens with the latter as the intent.

Raising the question of why one would waste their time doing it at all.

I mean, if you're not gonna grade profiles with the express purpose of telling people what changes their profiles need to be as close to balanced as possible.. well, it's a lot of paperwork for no real goal. Might as well save yourself the trouble and not do it.

I stopped reading there.

When your return argument is that you think the judges aren't doing this job anyway, then there's no point in continuing.

Go make your own tournament. Then you can have the most perfect profile system ever!

LOL

Classic Vin.

Here's a little game, everyone.

If you go back and read what I wrote, I never:
1.) stated a perfect level of clarification does or will ever exist
2.) suggested profile grading was not the a good way to go about it

I mean, I challenge you to find where the ******** Vin's getting this tangent. Or hell, even in what Vizzle said. You can use both of your posts, or probably any post we've ever made since the beginning of time, and you will not find these assertions made.

That's a smart way to put it when you philosophically explain it, but that's why philosophy is a joke field in the first place.

Nnnaaaactually, we not only have a massive rule codex, but several newer threads that are in particular designed to help newer players understand the rough balance they should stride for, on top of a more intuitive grading process (though not consistent between different judges, an issue I need to look at) coupled with far more detailed round grading results.

Not trying to make a "which one's better" debacle but, when it comes to this particular department, I'll have to insist HoH is miles ahead.

Not that it's something I feel GTB strides for. I don't want this place balanced, it has robotic squirrels.

Damn.

To think that little Jimmy in GTB can do it by being blessed by having a dragon father and witch mother.

Lord Haelstrom

Thanks for proving my point. When you have to make several paragraphs to an actual thread of posts on how to make a perfect character just to lower the amount of revisions a person MAY go through in the profile phase, then you might as well drop it altogether. Simple is the best way. No person, experience or new, is going to read that. Even if they do, they won't do exactly as you want them to. You just made HoH go back to the stone age.
