Kreiss Fangheart, The Knight of the Red
User Image

Kreiss gave a small nod to the woman as she said she couldn't just let him die. He wouldn't comment on how people outside of the woods interacted with people in need. It was good she was so innocent to such things. No need to plant strange ideas in her head.

"I promise I won't overdo any workload to agitate my injuries." Kreiss stated, watching her go as she was quickly out the door. He looked to the house and rubbed his hair. First was the fire. he stood up slowly with a groan and a small amount of relief at being able to walk. His slow footsteps contrasted to the quick pattering of what Zena's sounded like when she was around. He set two more logs into the fireplace and gave a nod when the already burning logs sparked and snapped at him. The fire was healthy at least.

Kreiss moved from that to picking up around the place. By picking up, it was more of him just shifting a stack of books over there or piling up a spattering of others into a neater stack to give more floor space. It was not an easy thing to do with his injuries, and having as much room to move as possible would benefit them both greatly.

He wasn't all that interested in what they said, but the more he did this, the more he noticed she had a lot of books. She could've had her own small library if she wanted it. The thought made him chuckle. It was almost like a fairy tale, a small woman with delicate features locked in a library waiting for someone to rescue her. Kreiss would have to tell Zena about the idea over their meal.

It took him far longer to do the basic task of moving things than he had originally hoped and when he was done he was wiped out, moving to sit and wipe at his forehead with a forearm. He'd go out to get wood and water in a bit, for now he needed to catch his breath.

Zena White, The Witch of the Woods

Putting all that she harvest in a basket, Zena made her way back into her cabin to see that Kriess had added a little more firewood to the fire and had moved her books into neater stacks. A little surprised by this she walked into the room and set the basket on a small table that was in the middle of the room closer to the fireplace. She rubbed her nose, only causing more dirt to get on her face. She then filled up the wooden bucket half way with water from her water barrel and brought the bucket to the table.

She took each crop at a time and washed it in the bucket of water before setting it aside. Once they were all washed she then started to cut them up. " I will make a stew. Sorry that is about all you can really eat out here." There was no animals in these woods to hunt so she couldn't even put meat in the stew even if she wanted to. Her mother would travel out of the woods once a month to gather supplies but the last time she did that was almost six years ago and she never returned.

Zena then put the cut up vegetables into the pot tat hung over the fire place and added a few dried herbs she had to add a little flavour. " The food here isn't all that good or fancy but it will fill you up and keep you alive." The witch said as she stirred the pot of stew that would barley feed the both of them.

Kreiss looked up from his sitting position as Zena came back into the house. "Don't worry about it, I've had less before. Travelling rations are not all that appetizing I must say and your cooking is better than some others. Given the right ingredients I bet you could surpass anyone that I know." Kreiss gave a nod and then stretched before moving to slowly stride over to where she was and took in a deep breath and gave a nod. "It smells nice too."

"I hope you don't mind that I took the liberty of moving some of your books around, just thought that if we're both going to be here, that a bit of organization could do us both some good in terms of space in the house. More room to move around and the like." He paused and then quickly added. "I didn't look at any of them that would be rude but I do have to say you have enough books to fill a small library, a few collectors would be jealous of the amount you have I bet."

He looked to her face and shook his head, taking a bit of his clothing and lifting it up to his mouth to wet the small section. "Face me real fast?" He asked, shifting to be at roughly her height so he could more accurately see where the dirt on her face was.

" If I had the right things to make something more then stew I would love to. I have a couple of books that are cook books believe it or not. Sadly though I can't make anything that are within those pages." Zena said before letting out a light laugh at Kreiss complementing her cooking. " Now you are really to modest Sir Knight. It is just a stew to fill up our stomachs."

Zena shrugged as Kreiss explain he moved her books around. She didn't mind as she had already moved her spell books so even if he looked through her books it was nothing more then books about herb or old stories most likely. " It is alright, its not like any of them are my diary. Besides even if you did look at them I doubt you would find any of them interesting Kriess." She explained before taste testing the stew and added a little bit more herbs. " Unless you want to read about herbs or old fairy tales."

Zena looked back at her books that were now nicely piled up and she laughed a little. " I wished I had more. I think I read them over and over gods knows how many times." Zena loved reading as it was the only way she was connected really to the outside world. She turned back tot he strew and sighed. " Its almost ready... Just needs to soften up the carrots..." She muttered to herself as she watched the stew bubble away from the fire. When Kreiss asked her to face her fast she blinked a little confused to what why he wanted her to face him real fast but he did what he asked and turned her head to face him."Huh?"

Kreiss moved one hand to a cheek and then brought the damp piece of clothing up to rub at her face. "You have dirt smeared on your face Zena. You should wash up before starting to prepare food you know." His hand was as gentle as he could do so with his wounds, but he was still wiggling her cheeks and nose around a bit while he scrubbed.

If anything, Kreiss was treating her more like a child than someone of similar age, and it was probably due to how small she was. Even as he continued to scrub he was just smiling away. "I actually thought that maybe I had entered a fairy tale where a lovely young lady was locked away in a spire waiting for someone to keep her company. I don't think any story talks about a wounded knight though being that company."

He paused and then chuckled. "But what can you do hmm? Can't always have the perfect situation, just have to make do with what you have." Kreiss then gave a nod. "No prince in shining armor for you Miss Zena, just a plain old knight who is on a mission. I'll do my best to keep you company though while I am here."

Zena White, The Witch of the Woods

Zena blushed slightly as she saw Freiss and leaned down a little so he was eye level with her and she only blushed more when he rested a hand on her soft pink little cheek. "W-What are you-" She started to only get damp clothing being rubbed in her face. " Mah!" She muffled threw the clothing that was now being smothered into her face. All could be heard from Zena was muffles and groans as she tried to squirm her way out of this.

" I can do it myself!" She muffled, still trying to pull her face away from Kreiss's grasp. Though her squirming stopped when Kriess spoke about how it was like he entered a fairy tale, making her blush a little. He saw this as a fairy tale? Being wounded in a cursed forest with a witch how has not left these grounds or seen another human in years. The witch listened to Kreiss more as he said that there was no prince in shining armour for her, only a wounded knight who was on a mission and that mission was to kill her. She frowned a little as his mission was right in front of her even though she was not the witch creating this disaster. " I never thought of a prince coming to save this ratty girl." She muffled before stepping away and looking at the stew which was now ready. " Its ready..." She said as she got a bowl ready and poured some stew in before handing it to Kriess, not really looking at him.

Kreiss tilted his head at her reaction to what he said. He couldn't help but smirk as he took the bowl. He didn't say anything but he knew that must've been something that she had thought of at one point, or at the very least dreamed about. Instead he just took a step away and moved to sit, taking a sip of the soup after blowing on it.

"It's good, thank you Zena. Like I said before even for simple soup you know how to cook better than some people I know." He then took another sip and looked at one of the books, moving to pick one up and read the title before flipping through its contents with a precursory glance. She was right that it was an old fable and not something he was particularly interested in.

A thought then popped into his head and he glanced at the food in his hand. "I forgot to ask whether or not you pray before your meals Zena. I've just been eating without considering that I might be offending you each time I do. Is there a particular god you worship or pray to? None at all?" He asked now setting the soup to the side and looking to the small witch before him.

Zena quickly turned away from Kreiss and served herself some stew in a small bowl. She took a seat at the table and blew a couple times at her stew to cool it down ever so slightly before taking a sip of it. She just gave Kreiss a simple nod when he said that her cooking was better then most. " It's most likely because they don't add in herbs like I do. Most people tend to forget the little things which is what really adds up in the end." She commented before taking another sip of her stew.

She galnced at him as he flipped through one og her books before looking back into her bowl. " You can read them if you want I do not mind." Zena said with a slight chuckle of the idea of Kreiss reading one of her books. When he asked about praying before eating she blinked a little surprised at first." Huh? Oh uh... As you like, it does not matter to me." There was once a time that Zena prayed but she stopped about a year after her mother went missing as none of her prayers were answered as her mother was never seen again. All she wanted was a sign to know where she was or what happened but Zena never got anything. " God trapped me here so I tend not to thank him or ask anything from him."

Kreiss gave a simple nod and picked up his bowl of soup again. "I just wanted to check as I did not want to offend you Zena. As for the herbs it does make sense but sometimes they make food to a particular person's tastes and it ruins the dish. However you have to eat it anyways so as to not appear rude." He shook his head as he took another sip.

After a moment he looked over the books and then back to her. "I'll read any that could tell me a bit more about the forest as was pretty evident we were woefully unprepared to enter so learning what I can would prove helpful. Any books you could suggest to me about that?" He was giving that same smile he had when cleaning her face. "Also now that I think about it, I never did catch your age Zena, I know it might be a bit strange to think about considering that time doesn't really make sense to keep track of when you're alone but still, it is something that interests me because you've been living here independent from everyone else."

The small woman gave a shrug before finishing her stew. " If you want to pray before eating or not it is fine, I will not be offended in any way." Zena got up from the table and put her bowl in the bucket of water to let it soak. " As long as it keeps you alive for another day I guess..." She said, referring to eating food that is made to ones taste.

" About the forest?" She was a bit surprised that he would want to read books about the forest that they were in. She rested her hand on her chin as she tried to think if she had anything about the forest. She then walked over to the stack of books Kreiss staked and started to look threw them to see if there was anything that he might be useful to Kreiss. " Forest...Forest... Forest..." She muttered to herself over and over again as she looked threw her books, now ruining Kreiss's once neat stack of books. " All I have is this book that I made up with maps of the forest." Zena said as she pulled out a black book that was once a blank book but now filled with maps and trails of the forest along with marks that marked where is was most filled with the cursed creatures.

" There is no book I own that tells about the forest... Maybe in your world there is but I only have what my mother owned or gave me growing up." Zena stated as she took another look threw her books just to be sure. Because many people didn't make it out of these woods there was nothing to go off of to write something other then that it was cursed and dangerous. " My age?" Again she had forgotten something about herself and she had to think about her own age. She even started using her fingers to count till finally she remembered how old she was." Twenty?"

There was a look of shock on Kreiss's face as she mentioned her age, his entire form going rigid as steel when she gave him the number. His gaze didn't even shift to the book she had offered him. He just remained frozen in place for a long while.

"T-Twe-Twenty y-you say?" He let out some nervous laughter as he shakily set his bowl down. "Y-you're kidding right? Y-y-you're telling a joke yes?" He continued the nervous laughter, though it faded away just as soon as it had begun, his face went from one of shock to one of horror. "You're not joking are you Zena?"

As soon as it registered she was being entirely serious he bowed his head in shame. "I'm sorry I misjudged your age! I thought I was treating you as someone appropriate to the age I thought you were. Please forgive me, I didn't mean to come off so rudely Zena. That is no way a lady should be treated."

The little witched looked at Kreiss confused as he started to laugh after she told him her age. " I am pretty sure I did the math right..." She said as she started to doubt herself. She thought of her age again and nodded as she was sure of her age. " Yes I am twenty." She said before he asked if she was joking which made her tilt her head a little confused. " Why would I joke about my age? What would I gain from it?"

It then became clear that Kreiss thought of her of a different age. She then crossed her arms and looked at him with a raised brow. " Wait how old did you think I was? I am not much younger then you am I right?" She figured that he was older but not by much but how old did he think she was?

Kreiss moved to rub his head and then look off to the side before up at the ceiling. "I shouldn't say..." He murmured before letting out a slow breath. "Fourteen? Fifteen? Somewhere in that area..." He then looked at his lap. "Again, I'm sorry for not treating you your actual age."

He motioned to her face. "If I knew you were twenty I wouldn't have wiped down your face or brushed your hair. That was too forward of me and rather rude in hindsight. Anything I can do to make up for such a catastrophic error on my part?" Kreiss's gaze was nervous. Clearly he wasn't expecting to have to admit to a woman that he thought she was a child, nor had he ever had to do so before and it was rather unnerving. He had just insulted his host.

"W-Wait... Four..." Zena's face turned into a bright red and she took a couple steps back. "You thought I was fourteen!? Fourteen!? Really!?" She snapped and pointed to herself. " I am not a child! I am adult, a full grown woman if you must know who is twenty! I-I am old enough o have been married on on my second child if I wanted to" It was true, she could of been married off at the age of sixteen if she still lived in the village and start her own family by now as in those times at her age and to be unmarried was not to common.

" S-So you are saying you were only acting so kind and getting all close because you thought I was a child? Y-You pervert!" She now was covering herself with her arms before running to the latter that went up to her loft. " I can't believe you!" She yelled before she threw a old potato at him. " Perv!"

Kreiss waved his hands. "W-w-wait I didn't mean it like that! No wait listen to me I'm not-!" A potato quickly clocked him on the forehead after he was already standing up and after it smacked him in his cranium he gave a grunt and was planted back into his chair

"I understand now that you could've had two children and been married now however..." He bit his tongue to stop himself. "L-look, let me explain. I would not have wiped your face down if I knew you were twenty. Isn't that insulting to a woman your age to have a man, practically a stranger at that do that for you when you are fully capable of doing it yourself? I-I didn't mean to insult your intelligence is what I am trying to say! The same with the talk of a prince coming rather than a wounded knight! If I would have known your age I wouldn't have talked as if a fairy tale like that could come true."

He rubbed at his head. "Other than conversation topics and actions I would have spoken to you in the same manner and done most of the same actions. I should have just been more aware that I was ignoring some of the more mature customs between adults... That really hurt..." He muttered under his breath.
