"You're trying to turn me! You want me to become murderous and full of hate! Don't you?!" Ivarine asked in shock. She was trying to focus on anything that would keep her from sinking into the dark depths that the crown and the power were dragging her too.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Farle gasped for air as if he were drowning. He saw what he thought was a deep pool of dark swirls and amber-yellow colors. He felt like he was drowning, like a part of his was being taken over from the darkness. Ivarine... No... I'll save you... I promise. Just... hold on a little longer. Farle thought desprate as he began to see the swirls vanish.

Cadence rushed over to Farle. "Farle they're leaving, but the Children of Drunsed are coming. I think they might help... Are you ok? Farle?" Cadence asked confused and worried.

"Ivarine...We have to save her. She's alive. I know it." Farle said to her turning his somthering topaz eyes that were slowly filling with tears on her.

"But...Farle... I saw her die..." Cadence said sadly and trying to remind Farle gently.

Farle's eyes flashed with both anger and sadness at Cadence's words, "I just know she's alive, what do you call the feeling? Darkness is trying to swallow her, it Dark Lord must have her one way or another." His golden topaz eyes focused on his friend's blue ones, "I just know Ivarine's alive and fighting. She has to be."

Cadence averted her eyes from Farle's eyes, "I...I did see her...dead...are you sure this isn't just another aftershock of grief?" Farle's glare cut her short though, "Ok, ok, fine. If you are right, how do we get to the Dark Lord and do we even have enough time to reach her before...before he forces her to change?" Worry for her friend was really beginning settle in Cadence's head, was he starting to hallucinate?

"Murderous and full of hate?" The Dark Lord's tongue caressed both words like satin, "Oh no, my lady, my intentions veer more on the side of less mercy and more power. The Queen of Shadows must be like shadows, uncaring and unfeeling." Ivarine felt herself sinking back into the whirlpool of blackness. ~No!!! A soft knock on the door snapped her back before she was trapped again though and Iyza's timid face peered in.

"My Lord, my Lady, the shadow wyvern and both Ner'ein riders have come back with reports. They say it is important." The Dark Lord stood up from his throne, "Very well, I will go see to them. You must accompany the Queen back to her chambers for a good rest." With that and rustle of black silk, he was gone.

"My Lady?" Iyza asked warily, seeing the tortured look that twisted Ivarine's features.

The leaves rustled and Cadence glanced up quickly. A boy about their age, dressed in a cotton tunic and breeches with a staff in his hands approached until he was but six paces away. Behind him, two men with swords and spears stood at guard.

"We'll talk about this later," Farle murmured.

"Gera ekki árás," the boy said to his companions hastily before turning to Cadence. With a bit of an accent he said, "Hello, travelers."

"H-Hi?" Cadence stuttered.

Farle stepped up with more confidence. "Hello. Are you the Children of Drunesd?"

"We are. Who are you and what business have you here?

"I am Farle Charles, son of Kraiton. My friend is Cadence Winds, daughter of none. We were seeking only a pathway through the Shahaile when the Dark Lord chased after us with his beasts. We mean you no harm."

"Latices, son of Drunesd. My brothers are Poltaic and Gorglal. We will ____

--- --- ---

With Iyza's help, Ivarine returned to what would be her personal chambers. The crown still burned darkness into her mind and whenever she closed her eyes she could still feel the gaze of the yellow eyes on her.

Ivarine collapsed on the bed and within moments was back in the whirlpool of dark energy. She glanced around, trying to push it away from her, but couldn't hear, or feel anything other than a dull pressure pressing against her.

"Stop this!" she cried soundlessly. The exclamation echoed around the walls of the "whirlpool" and did nothing except prove how utterly alone she was. Then the amber-eyed silhouette reappeared, this time facing her.

Stop resisting me! came a ladylike voice, elegant yet overwhelming. I am not here to convert you...but to help you....

((I was using an Icelandic translator for the Children of Drunesd's speech, lol. But yea. The Drunesd people can help them...not help them....take them to the camp...whatever. And of course Farle and Cadence might change plans from whatever they were before because Farle thinks Ivarine is alive.))

((Son of Kraiton. Latices, Son of Drunsed. Brothers are, Poltaic and Gorglal??? Maybe for the names...))

"Help me? How? How could you help me?! YOU DEMON OF THE DARK!" Ivarine yelled in the dark whirlpool.

----------------------------------------------

"We will take you back to our leader and he'll decide what we should do." Latices said.

"You need my help," the amber-yellow eyed lady said, unflinching even as Ivarine tried launching chunks of ice at her. They phased through her silhouette harmlessly and she spoke again. "Quiet, girl."

"Who are you?" Ivarine screeched, glaring up at the balls of light that were eyes. "Who are you, and what do you want with me?"

"I am nameless, known by title only," replied the calm voice. "As for what I want...that depends much on you."

"Look, I just want--" she cast another wave of ice at the eyes, again without effect. "--to destroy the dark lord--" She pressed her hands together, summoning strength between then. "--and all you evil demons!"

"Stop this nonsense," the lady in the darkness said, moving a darkened arm. The ice from the place vanished instantly, sublimed by the passing of a shadow. "Good needs evil, just as light needs dark," the silhouette murmured.

"As for eliminating my dear lord though... that I can help you with."

"You want to help me destroy your lord? Are you like mentally insane? Either you are truly ******** up or you really do want to help. I have a feeling it's the first." Ivarine said.

"Well the reasons for my intentions are my own and you will not be able to see them yet until you accept my help." The yellow eyed shadow said.

"I..." ~What should I do?! I don'true know her intentions, what if she just wants me to be a vessel to her?! What can I do though? My conscience is now in constant battle with the dark vortex of power and I cannot defeat the Dark Lord without help, I don't even know if Cadence and Farle will come before I succumb to being converted. Ivarine squeezed her eyes shut, biting the inside of her lip until she tasted blood, "I...I...fine. I accept."

"Very good." The shadow lady said, "I will not share with you all of my propaganda as His Majesty may sense something amiss and extract the information from your head. That would be disastrous to my plans. But I will tell you part of my story in coming to serve him."

The yellow eyes hardened into a metallic gold, "My family was from a direct bloodline to the very first beings that learned the art of changing things, they learned to convert Dark to Light and back again. The art was even farther perfected as the family line went down, then, the Dark Lord came into power. At first, we went along with his many schemes. Killing, changing, terrorizing the many creatures on his whim whenever he gave the order, but it got...boring. And sad. Finally, we asked to leave his service, he refused. And to make his point, he saw to it that most of us were slaughtered leaving only me. Dooming me to a curse of being part ghost and part shadow, drifting in this seal inside the amethyst."

Ivarine opened her mouth but a cold, misty draft silenced her voice, the shadow lady's eye remained fixated on her, "So, have you figured out my first intention is to gain revenge so my family can rest? You must have, having the good brain you do. Beware the wolves among the sheep here and get to know your servant Iyza she will be crucial."

Then the lady vanished, leaving Ivarine to absorb the news she had just acquired.
------------------------------------

"Very well. Lead the way please." Cadence said, tipping her head slightly in a sign of respect. Latices nodded curtly and turned beckoning them to follow.

The journey was short but complicated. Cadence weaved among the rocks eerily naturally but Farle panted with every step. And I'm supposed to be the more athletic one! he moaned inwardly.

"We're here." Latices touched his spear point against a hidden knob in the rock and an arch opened up.

Farle shot up, hitting his head on the ceiling of the tunnel...the tunnel? He glanced around, rubbing the new sore and discovered that they had climbed into a tunnel sometime. The tunnel expanded into a cave here, and Farle stepped in to find the new ceiling a few feet above his head. It was roomier in this tunnel, better lit, and--and smelled better.

Latices murmured a string of instructions to his two brothers, who acknowledged the orders silently and vanished into the labyrinth of tunnels ahead. "I sent Poltaic ahead to announce your arrival to our chief. Please, come with me. Stay close."

Moments later Iyza entered the room to see Ivarina. "The dark king sent me to get you for supper. Are you ready my dark queen?"

-------------------

"Ok. But do we have to do too much more hiking up these hills?" Farle asked.

Latices laughed.

"Oh Farle it's ok, just don't freak out about it." Cadence said.

Ivarine nodded wandering inwardly what she had just gotten herself into by agreeing to the ghost's deal, "Lead the way, Iyza." Her voice didn't come out right. Usually, it sounded like the spring breeze, soft and airy, this time, it came out like the deathly shadows that had called her back from the dead. Iyza didn't blink or even looked fazed, she just curtsied and held the door open for her new Queen, "After you, Milady."

~What did you do?! Ivarine shrieked inwardly feeling the familiar misty presence that signaled the yellow-eyed silhouette.

~Shhh...the Dark Lord will become suspicious if your voice still sounds like the untamed wind, the Shadow Queen must have some resemblance to the shadows she will rule, no? Listen to my instructions and keep to them if you want to be successful. Do not speak to the Dark Lord in an ill manner, that will stir up his suspicions. I will tell you what to do once we start dining. The presence faded as Ivarine progressed down the long corridor, her footsteps echoing weirding off the silent walls.
---------------------------------------

"Easy for you to say." Farle grumbled, "You seem born to climb up these hills. I keep falling over rocks and such." Cadence just grinned, holding back her amused giggles.

Latices smiled, "Her kind originated in the mountains, it's second nature for them to be able to climb." He turned left, then right, walked straight, then turned right again, "This is where the chief usually greets travelers, he should be here shortly."

Farle grumbled anyways, too concentrated on the trek to pay much attention to anything anyone said.

Cadence on the other hand, had looked up, shocked, at Latices when he mentioned "her kind". Does--does he recognize what I am then? I must find out more! Her feet guided her quickly and silently next to Latices and once he'd introduced the room she opened her mouth to speak before shutting it again hesitantly. What will I say? "What am I?" He'll take me for an idiot! I must wait. She shifted uneasily, saw Latices watching a large rock arch before them and looked that way too.

Around them the Children of Drunesd were pouring in through other passages. Some went their own way and others stayed to study the newcomers. Farle raised his hand in greeting at a few and tried to communicate, but the ones that didn't give him confused looks were staring at Cadence with a mix of awe, fear, and suspicion. What's so special about Cadence? She looks fine to me.

"Here comes the chief. If he wishes to speak somewhere else, follow without questions." Latices stated without breaking his stare at the archway, the throng of passing Children started to part to create a pathway for their leader. Cadence nodded, her blue eyes clouded over with her own questions and confusions about her past. Farle imitated the gesture, watching Cadence carefully.

The chief finally appeared with the two Children that Latices had sent ahead as messengers, he started the usual practices of greeting the newcomers but stopped when he saw Cadence. The dark eyes narrowed, and he beckoned for them to follow turning back toward the archway. Cadence exchanged a frightened look with Farle and tried to catch Latices' eye.

~What did I do? Why does everyone here look at me like I'm some sort of dangerous weapon?

Farle shrugged finally and faked a grin, hoping to calm her down, but followed nervously himself. He noted not only her eyes, wide with questions, fear, and excitement, but also the trembling lip and prayed Don't cry now Cadence...Please....

The party trekked in silence down another passage, this one more gentle than any of the ones they'd been through previously and finally arrived at an archway adorned with a cloth covering that one of the guards opened, letting them into a wide chamber with soft seats made of wood and leaves. The leader sat in one and gestured Cadence, Farle, and Latices sit on the bench.

The chief took a long drink on a glass of purple liquid on the desk. Farle watched with curiosity, patting Cadence lightly when he saw she was trembling. He saw that the chief was not about to speak even though he had set down the glass and proceeded as respectfully as he could:

"Excuse me...um...Chief of the Children of Drunesd...I just wanted to know...are we welcome here? We'll be on our way if we're not. Really."

The chief looked at Cadence more than the speaker and intoned, "Of course. An aos si is always welcome."

((Ok. Aos si is the irish name for "fairy". Usually bad fairy, but there are a few good ones. There are different types, but from what I know, most of them have a connections with dark colors. Like, the shapeshifter (pwca) shifts into any a dark-coated animal. So I thought that'd be a nice way of interpreting the second half of the first line ("our recreated light in darkness"): Light (as in hope) in darkness (black hair). Or something. Just a thought.))
PostPosted: Wed Jun 08, 2011 8:05 am

If Cadence hadn't set her mind on keeping her tears in her eyes and not letting them spill over, she most definitely would have melted into a puddle by now. As it was, her eyes burned but she kept her composure together, "An aos si? But if I'm a type of evil fairy, why am I welcome here?" The chief studied her with unconcealed surprise gleaming in his eyes.

"You have no idea for what purpose your kind decided to create you for?" He reached into a small satchel pulling out a silver charm with a glowing amethyst and held it out to Cadence, "Do you remember this? From what we've gathered, before most of the aos si vanished into hiding and left you with some villagers, all of them wore one of these."

Cadence traced the charm hesitantly before taking it and holding it up to examine it, conscious of Farle's topaz eyes scrutinizing her. ~...purple is a royal color... a fragment of a memory broke free from the black void of her mind, ...but too often paid for with a high price of blood...

Farle wasn't the only one scrutinizing the aos si. The Chief and Latices both watch her carefully as if expecting some sort of revelation.

Cadence stared into the amethyst with a sense of wonder, lost in a darkness that somehow comforted her. Her eyes had dried, and shone with excitement as if she were seeing paradise in stone.

Slowly, she raised her eyes to face the other three. The two Children of Drunsd seemed to be holding their breath as she opened her mouth to speak.

"___"

((Looks like we have a bit of a prophecy going on > smile

Just wanted to say, even though it's super late, I love that last line "Purple is a royal color, but too often paid for with a high price of blood."))
