User ImageA few pixies started to appear around Sophia as she grew nearer to the lake. The closer she bomce, the more there seemed to be. It didn't surprise her though, she already knew they existed, even if the tech children didn't. One made an attemtp for her to notice it, but after she walked straight past it, the pixie tugged on her hair. "Ouch! Let go!" She swatted her hand at the pixie until it eventually stuck its tongue out and flew off. She sighed and carried on, eyeing the other pixies causously with each step. They weren't afraid of her, and she wasn't afraid of them, it was just unfortunate that she could see them and they knew it. "I wonder how near I am.." She thought aloud, before spotting the edge of what seemed like a lake or pond full of water.

Ray's eyes went wide with surprise. She was confused. She had been trying but not that hard. But instead of complaining, she murmured a thank you for getting rid of the waiter and then was going to continue into a sorry, but stopped herself. There was no real reason to be sorry. In the tech world you're told to be fake and try hard at everything. Kite was telling her to relax and be herself. Did she even know how?

You'll never expect what you can't see...

"Hn?" He opened his eyes wide in surprise. A 'Thank you' wasn't what he had expected. She really wasn't like most techies.

The waiter soon brought their tea. He again looked to Desiree, then was startled as he saw Kite was glaring back at him. He continued on to another table. Kite grabbed his glass and took a sip. He started to swirl the contents of his glass. As he stared at the spinning ice and tea, he started to explain himself. "I know how awkward it feels, to actually try and do what I've just asked. I, too, have an image to uphold. Always doing as expected - trying to be perfect..." He frowned, still looking at his drink. "It's so annoying."

Ray smiled and looked up. "It's just...we're all raised to be fake and be prefect because we were all engineered to be perfect...but in doing so it just feels like we're all the same." She sighed, lifting up the edge of her skirt. "I dress weird because its the only way I can feel different in this world. I'm sorry if I try so hard." Here she blushed a bit, "It's because I like you and its the only way I know to show it." She gave a weak smile, making her blushing cheeks stand out more.

Forever silent the moon exists...

While walking down the road Zepher turned to look at Kenny who was desperately trying to avoid the Fay as they came. Seing this he turns back and shakes his head. "You know, they don't come after you unless you provoke them," Zepher remarked to Kenny.

Kenny stared forward, with a slightly worried, but mostly blank expression on his face. It must have been a habit, something ingrained into him by his parents. At a young age, he learned that contact with fey usually brought swift and painful punishment.

They continued forward. Kent kept his strange zigzagging motion. Slowly, the city seemed to become less and less, until the buildings became so scarce and so few that they seemed to disappear all together. Kenny peered ahead of his escort. A large blue object that glistened with the sun stood a short ways ahead. Kenny just stared in awe as they moved towards it.

Kite smiled, not yet looking away from the glass in his hand. "Don't be sorry; to your knowledge, you've done nothing wrong..." He paused, still smiling, and looked to her, "...and I'm glad you try to be different. Someone's got to, or we'd all go insane."

A different waiter came out - a female one. She walked over and set the respective meals in front of Ray and Kite. She smiled to Desiree, then to Kite, but seemed to continue to ogle Kite as she returned to the kitchen. Kite didn't even seem to notice her. He reached for his sandwich and proceeded to eat it quite quick. In no time, it was gone. As for the rest of this time, he waited for Desiree.

Ray finished hers up as she glared at the waitress that finally started back to the kitchen. Ray took a sip of her tea, quickly spitting it into a napkin. It tasted terrible, like...there wasn't even a description for it. It was like old sweat and old fish mixed in salt water. Ray made a grimace and quickly told Kite her problem. "I bet that waiter and waitress did it," she growled under her breath. Sighing, Ray pushed her drink away. It wasn't worth dealing with people to her. "Maybe I should go..." Ray said softly rising. "Thank you very much..." She rummaged in her purse to find a ten, throwing it on the table she waited for Kite's response before she left. Would he want her to go? Would he want her to stay?

Kite watched as Ray stood. He didn't respond at first. She started to leave. Almost out of impulse, he stood, "Wait..." He wasn't exactly prepared for what to say next - an unusual event indeed. He went with the strange urge, "I'll go with you." He glared to the door of the kitchen, then quickly back to her, "Anywhere could be better than here." He walked with her to the door. It felt a little odd following her, as he had for so often done whatever he felt. He, of course, would not show this awkward emotion.

Ray smiled. She stopped worrying so much whether he liked her or if he cared. It was obvious he at least cared. She pushed her long black hair out of her face and took his hand. It might surprise him, but it was her turn to take him somewhere. In uptight, preppy suit, he'd never fit in, but she wanted to show him anyways. However, she didn't take his hand to drag him off. She just wanted to hold it. So she let it rest there as she walked, making sure she stayed the leader.

Kite didn't fully understand why she reached for his hand - oddly enough, he didn't pull away. He followed beside her as she walked through the town. Turning his head to look at her, he asked, "Where are we headed?" It was still odd following this girl that he barely knew, yet he followed along blindly, not sure of what to make of this trip.

They were still in the techie part of town, but there was this older building that she wanted him to see. The bottom was now a virtual arcade, but the attic was still the same. It had once been a church. At least Ray thought it had been. Ray wove through the streets with expert easy. She knew how to get to her Church. Yes, it was hers. The bottom maybe owned by restless techies, but Ray knew the secrets that lay above. She knew the entrance in the back alley that lead straight to the bells.

Ray pulled Kite through this alley and up into the secluded staircase. The bells were being pushed around by the wind and their chiming could be heard down the stairwell. Lights flickered on mirrors cascading on the walls. Each wall holding its own changing rainbow. They finally reached the landing of the attic. Shards of glass and crystal hung suspended from the ceiling beams and far above were bells. Big bells and small bells all made of brass and gems. The hanging glass and crystal glittered in the setting sunlight. The pixies that Ray could barely see were over active here. Because of the glass, even a techie could catch glimpses of the fey's reflection in the color glass. Ray stood back and just let Kite take it all in. This love child like magical cove in the middle of Tech city. What would he think? She didn't know, but this was the best place in the whole city to her

Ray pulled Kite up the stairs and into a small bright room. As his eyes quickly adjusted, he could only stare in awe at elegance of the room. Colors were splayed across the room. They shimmered and waved along the walls. He slowly spun to look at every wall. Everything seemed to be dancing in his eyes. Straightening up his composure, he looked to her, "What is a place like this doing in the techie side of town?"

He went back to gawking at the room. Glimpses of tiny, floating beings could occasionally be seen in the mirrors. They didn't fully register in Kite's mind; he thought his brain was playing tricks on him. 'Things like this must be what causes the illusions that the love children view.'

"This is my sanctuary...my mother made it years ago. She's an artist and gave it to me when she got ill." Ray's mother was in the hospital with a weak heart. The only problem still plaguing techies. As donations were still hard to come by, and hearts couldn't be grown yet. "Its where I can see into the stories spun by the love children..." Ray didn't know whether to tell him the whole story or not. She wondered if she should tell Kite she was basically half love child and knew that their world and that magic was real. She decided against it. It would only ruin what she had just started with him. He'd think she was crazy just like he treated the love children more like experiements.

Kite looked back to her, again recomposing himself. "Your mom... the one with the heart condition? I overheard Samantha talking about it in class... I'm sorry." He gave a quick glimpse at the strange shimmering light.

He tried to change the subject. "What do you think causes the light to bend like that?" The images he saw still didn't seem to register right. As if the reflections were lying to him.

Terrin finally sat up on the floor. He looked at his hands which were still shaking. "Dumb spell." A knock came on his door. "I'm not here! Go Away!" "Terrin," a small voice came from the door. "Terrin, i thought you'd be here when you didn't show up for lunch. I snuck you some food. Open the door." Terrin stumbled to his feet and wobbled to the door. The latch clicked

The young kid on the other side of the door, quickly spun the handle and shoved the door open. Terrin was shoved backwards by the door. He fell and rolled on his back to absorb the blow, supporting his upper body by placing his forearms on the floor.

He looked up. A fourteen year old girl with silk black hair down to her shoulder blades and dressed in somewhat raggy clothes stood over him.
"You know, you really shouldn't be getting into trouble all the time. It..." Catelyn actually looked at how shaky he was. "Whoa. Are you alright?" She set the plate down just inside the door. With a worried expression on her face she looked over his body.

She balled her hand into a fist and punched his upper arm nearest to her.
"What'd ya do this time!?" She stood up and closed the door, then brought the plate to him. "Nothing. I'm fine..." "Yeah right; look at you!" "I just need to get out of here." "So why don't you?" "Because the people here don't let children out on the streets alone. I can't." "C'mon! Any of us love children here know you're not human. So why can't you just leave? Hmm." Terrin just looked down, staying silent. "Tsk. Whatever," she said ,rolling her eyes. She stood up and walked out of the room, shutting the door behind her. Terrin continued looking at the strange, unrecognizable slop on the dish in front of him. "I really dislike human food..."

Ray decided to take a leap of faith. To put her trust in Kite. "Nothing makes the light bend that way...what you see reflected is what you can't see because you're a techie." Her eyes were shimmering with tears already playing the scene in her head where Kite tells her she's crazy and leaves. "I'm half love child...raised in a tube like you and the others, but my mother wanted to have me herself...so she did..." Ray was staring down at the floor. Scared beyond all belief she continued with a shaking voice. "Not soon after my birth, my mother went into the hospital...she's comatose...they said it was because she had chosen to have me...so I guess it's my fault...but I can catch glimpse of the things in the stories that love children tell...and here anyone can catch their reflections. I know I'm not crazy...I know its all real. I mean look at me, even for being a techie, I have a body that's gorgeous..." Ray didn't know what that was meant to say...she guess she had meant it to mean she was different from other techies and yet some how superior because of her mix. But she really didn't think she was. And she was so afraid, Kite would walk out on her and she would once again be alone with her burden.
