Zanzu sighed a little, "Yeah...which wrist will be tied by the rope? I'm not exactly the best at puzzles and I don't really care for a day where we get total freedom buuut I'm not going to sit back and let him suffer for that. Guess I have to give it my all no matter how little it may be..."
He held out both of his hands letting Suwati decide which one to tie the rope around. Though Zanzu would never admit it his hands didn't lie, they were trembling slightly in the air, biting down on his bottom lip nervously as he watched his hands and nothing else.

"Relax Zanzu, at least it's just a puzzle and not a fight."Tyson said from his crouching position opening one eye to look up at the rope. He knew with his luck he would probably regrett those words later, but he couldn't show too much weakness or insecurity with his skills or he'd never advance past his current rank of chuunin. As his thoughts filtered them selves he found himself looking at his own hands, but soon forced himself to focus on the instruction given so far instead.

"Heh." he was still grinning. "I still think you both should have been demoted. Your actions are not that of a chuunin. Strength is not always the answer to a situation. Just because you can physically compare to one does not make you mentally ready." He dropped down from the gate and slowly walked toward them, one hand on his hip. If it wasn't for the man being inherently odd, one might wonder what was going through his head.
The Sannin tossed the rope towards them, it fell limply in a puddle of water at their feet. This was the first part of their test, even if they did not realize it.Casually the man brushed water out of his hair. "So, I'll tell you something special about this rope. It has no special qualities."
He was yet still grinning. "There is nothing definitive about it, it's simply a rope. One you can buy at a general store. It's not even particularly strong. However," he paused, the grin was gone. It wasn't a stern look, but one of no emotion. This wasn't a mask, the man felt no emotion in his decision. "If this rope breaks or is cut, you WILL be demoted back to Gennin. Understood? Now tie it on your wrists. You may both decide how to do so."

Man...he was serious about it...that rope is small, there is no way it could fit around even one of our wrists let alone tie both of our wrists together... Zanzu sighed a little, the puzzle had already begun. "Tyson...what do you think? I've got an idea or two but I don't really think its anything feasible..."

"There is no way that the rope will casually fit around both of our wrists. So whichever hand is tied will lose blood flow, causing this to become a two handed puzzle. We can not allow the rope to break or be cut..."He paused here as he picked the rope up and held it in front of his eyes, "Not only that but because he threw it so casually into the water it will most likely start shrinking as it dries."

"Heh...so as soon as we tie it around our wrists a time limit begins and not a vary gracious one at that. Are you right handed or left handed? You'll probably be the more deciding factor here so I'd rather let you have your main hand be available if possible...I completely overlooked the possibility of the rope shrinking as it dries." Zanzu sighed a little and closed his eyes, relaxing as much as he could, trying to get his heart to slow down...with every beat of their hearts their time limit would decrease and Zanzu wanted to have as much time as possible before nerve damage became a factor.

"I'm right handed,"he said casually as he held the rope up to hand it to Zanzu, "here you go, you can tie it." After which he stood up so he was on level with Zanzu. "Your right though the time limit is much shorter than the amount of time we were originally given, though I bet that was planned. He said he didn't think we should be chuunin and probably figures this will do us in. So it's prove him wrong or back to genin status."

"Might be it..or he might be hiding something from us, who knows?" Zanzu shrugged a bit as he began to fit the rope around Tysons left wrist. Good...hes got small wrists as well...we both have pretty tiny wrists so this shouldn't be completely impossible but it will still be incredibly tight...theres got to be something wrong with this...
"Hey..." He turned and looked back at the sanin. "...ropes are just made of individual strands...would taking those strands apart to remake a new rope be considered "breaking" the rope...you said we weren't allowed to break it or have it cut...It's technically neither but this is your test and if we're not allowed to do it because of defeating the purpose of the test or something I'd rather just do it your way..."

"Removing it's base shape would be counted as breaking it's original purpose. Think a tad bit more, it isn't day light quite yet." Suwati was growing bored. He purposely phrased the rules to have loop holes.

"Hrmmm...Yeah I guess you're right...it'd be nothing but a piece of string then" Zanzu sat down and closed his eyes, thinking over the words of the man. He pulled out the rope then said, "You will be tied together by the wrist for the entire challenge."...He's also said that the rope wasn't special...and that it being just an ordinary piece of rope was what was special...
He began to scratch his head a little as he yawned, he was already beginning to feel a little mentally tired due to poor sleep and over thinking the situation. He knew it had to be something simple...something that shouldn't have even been that hard to figure out..."Hmm...I wonder...Does this rope need to be the one tying us together or can it be any rope of the same quality?"

He crouched down again twiddling his thumbs as he began thinkin once again, "not that it would do any good, unless you have another rope stashed in you back pocket."

"No but I do have a wallet...we have until sundown to complete the challenge...And its just like any other rope we can find at a local tool shop...one of those shouldn't be too hard to find now should it?" Zanzu shrugged a little bit, he knew that if they managed to get a hold of a longer rope that would not only reduce the risk of breaking the rope which would send them back to being a genin but also allow them to more comfortable tie themselves together.

"True but, the more time we use doing that the less we have for whatever else we're supposed to do."He said with a sigh, if he were to be demoted he'd simply retake the exam and try to gain chuunin status again, not a real big problem, though it would be a pain to have to go through it again. He wasn't sure how well Zanzu would take being demoted, so he had decided to use as much brain power as he could to make sure they succeded.

To put it bluntly, Zanzu was astonished that Tyson couldn't see this all the way through and he couldn't help but wonder to himself if he had been spending far too much time with Akira and that he was simply thinking of what Akira would do in this situation. His voice was a little shaky as he spoke out, "Tch...I suppose the other member who couldn't be here would say something like sometimes you have to lose pieces to win the game or some nonsense...Pretty much the way I see it...We spend a couple of minutes buying the rope and gain another couple of hours to the challenge, or we try to fit the 3 inch piece of string around our wrists and have a couple of minutes to complete the challenge we'll have to do assuming we can manage to tie it that tightly around our wrists to begin with...after a couple of minutes there will begin to be quite a bit of nerve damage and we'll never be able to use our hands the same way again, I'd rather just be a genin if thats the case because at least if I admit my loss and get demoted I can someday rise up again," He paused for a moment and took in a deep breath, trying to collect himself before he continued his statement to Tyson, "If we screw this up and I lose my right hand forever I'll NEVER be able to be a shinobi since it is my dominant hand...I'll never be able to fight the same way...I'll never be able to reach my dreams...and worst of all...If the village is attacked there will be nothing I can do to protect that which is precious to me. I may not be the best 'shinobi' in the world but I'm not going to throw my future away for nothing...If I'm going to die it'll be to protect the future of this village, the ideals of this village, and the younger children of this village...I'll do everything in my power to protect the future of this place which I love and you wanting to rush through this challenge as if it doesn't matter isn't going to cost me that Tyson...I'm sure you have something worth protecting too so you should understand..."
He sighed a little, he knew that Suwati already didn't think he was capable of being a true shinobi and after going off on such a rant he doubted that the man thought any more of him, nothing he said would be the words of a true shinobi. He knew that a true shinobi would be willing to sacrifice anything for the mission at hand to ensure its success...his hand...arm...or even his life if need be, and Zanzu knew quite well he just said he wouldn't sacrifice a single one of those things under most circumstances. He was once willing to...but that foolishness pushed him into becoming nothing more then a vessel and nearly cost his entire team their lives. "Suwati...I'm quite sure that isn't what you want of me and that I've only made you feel that I'm even less ready for becoming a true shinobi, but to me there is nothing more important then this village. Foolishly throwing my life away for nothing, being nothing more then a pawn, its just not an option...I don't care if I stay a genin for the rest of my life if thats what it takes to protect my village, I know I still have a long way to go but if I give up on my hopes and dreams again it will only cause me to fall further into the darkness until I've become the thing which I've grown to detest most...I know I'm not perfect but nobody is so all we can really do is strive to better our selves. If nothing else I want to thank you for reminding me that...I was beginning to let my arrogance get the better of me again and forgot my place." He humbly bowed before the man, staying with his face towards the ground in a sign of respect, though he may not agree with the man's methods there was no denying he was his superior in almost every way, even if he wanted to.

"Right, so what does that have to do with the test?" he was annoyed. "You have a task assigned to you, you will attempt to pass it with the best of your abilities, equipment and knowledge. So, why not think outside the box? You were close to figuring out a loop hole a few moments ago. Obviously this is not long enough to cover most wrists. I will not tolerate giving in."
He sighed. "I'm not like the other team leaders. Please get this through your head. Bull s**t responses like this don't work on me. I've seen to much death and heard these speeches ten score and more." he half turned, tossing a glance back, "Unless you two want to end up like my last time.... I recommend stop making excuses and do something. But think about what you are doing. Part of this exercise is to learn to not think like a ninja, but as a human. You both are human, correct?"
