Kira was having herself a pity party. She had ordered a lot of alcohol and was using her magic to build herself a fort out of the table. She was upset. "He has no right to do this to me." She was talking to herself.

She drank a small sip of the vial. The bump on her head was reducing rapidly. The burns on her body were fading down to scars. Claudette was feeling less on the brink of death. "Don't you need some?" She asked. She didn't know if he was singed elsewhere.

She didn't comment on his home for the lack of information. Maybe he wanted to keep that private.

Instead she said, "I remind you of your sister?" He seemed a little emotional, and Claudette fretted over him. She was surprised by his answer, but she didn't want to push him. He seemed upset. Claudette fetched him a spiced tea thinking that it would cheer him up a little.

"I'm fine," Veiris responded, "Shifted and healed. Like I said, perk of the magic." He did run his gaze over her now healed arm and head, wanting to make sure she ha taken enough of this mysterious medicine.

He muttered a 'thank you' for the tea before beginning again. "She looked out for me. Used to wrap her wing around me. We bonded sibling griffins. Made us feel even closer. She went to battle one day and never came back. She was missing, and..." he paused trying to swallow a lump that was forming in his throat. It had been two decades, but it was a wound that never healed. "We never found out what happened. If she was killed by the enemy or taken and cleansed by Clerics. Or even captured by slavers and sold to the west. Maybe she got Stuck or Tainted. We never found out. I never got to know." he trailed off near the end, beginning to repeat himself.

Seeing as Kira and Svana are sulking independently, and Veiris and Claudette seem to want to talk to each other, that pretty much leaves Baldur as unoccupied. Grinning slightly, she asks, "Care for a drink?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 01, 2015 12:43 am

Glancing toward Mynoris, Baldur raised his eyebrow slightly. "I'd kill for a drink," he confessed, glancing toward Svana. She seemed content to sulk. He was content to let her.

"While I wouldn't typically discourage that in general, you really don't have to at this point in time," Mynoris says. Pulling out a variety of coinage, she makes her way up to the bar. "Give me the third strongest drink you have, and get him one of whatever he's partial to," she says, while trying to suss out what the most effective tender will be.

Baldur honestly couldn't tell if she was kidding or his figure of speech went right over her head. Shrugging it off, he lifted a hand and called, "Ale," to the waitress working. "Only third strongest drink?" he asked Mynoris with a crooked grin.

This time Mynoris was actually joking. Mostly. "Just a little dry humor," she says. "And if I start with the strongest drink then I'll have nothing left when I really need a pick me up," she explains. "Besides, it gives me something to work towards." Taking her drink and sliding the ale to Baldur, she raises her glass. "I've also learned that the pure strength of the drink doesn't always mean it's the best tasting. Cheers."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 01, 2015 1:28 am

He tipped his glass briefly toward her before sipping it. Not bad. Not the best, but not bad. "To me, I'd have to try all the drinks to determine taste versus strength if that's how I was making the decision. I like to make informed decisions so I know what I'm getting myself into."

However, getting boozed and floored wasn't an option. Not with only Svana around to carry him out. He didn't trust her enough for that.

Taking another long swallow, he kicked his legs out in front of him with a long sigh.

Claudette listened to what Veiris was saying, feeling a large amount of empathy for him.

"I'm so sorry," she said softly, and this time she did pull him into a hug. "I hope some way or another you can find her, and I hope the Clerics haven't gotten to her. It's not right to be separated like that."

Claudette thought about her own family. It had been far too long since she had seen them, thanks to the Immortals. She gently squeezed his hand as sign of comfort.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" She asked. Even if it was just lending an ear or giving him some comfort, she would do it. Hell, she would even help him fight those Clerics if he asked her to, and she would do it gladly because they sounded worse than the Immortals.

Mynoris takes a sip of her own drink and comes to similar mental conclusions as Baldur did; not that she'd know. "Well, I'm just trying this one first," she says with a grin that turns somewhat impish. "I have to start somewhere after all. Mixing them all together all at once would defeat the purpose...or perhaps blow the place up." Leaning against the bar casually, she continues on to ask, "So, assuming your people win, what do you plan to do when the fighting stops? Or do you figure it won't stop until only elves are left standing? In which case, I doubt you'll ever see peace."

Flicking a glance over to Claudette and Veiris, her expression grows nostalgic for a few moments. But that doesn't last long and she takes a long swallow of her drink.

"Mixing your alcohols is bad form," Baldur agreed with a wry grin. "And usually puts you in worse condition than if you had left well enough alone." The drink wasn't potent, but he felt the prickles of calm edging against him. Given his day, a stout drink was more than in order.

"They have an idea of how much land they expect to take and I know Larus doesn't intend on expanding his borders, but digging in and establishing his new country. Svana...I don't know what goes on in her head. She's on board for the plan for now. I do know for a fact that she doesn't have a big enough army to sack more cities. Her forces are bloody good and bloody scary to watch go to work, but they're few in number. Either way, it doesn't matter to me. I'll help them get settled and figure out if it's worth staying or leaving then," he declared nonchalantly. It was true. He was here on trial basis until they succeeded in their war. Depending on their success, they wouldn't need him, and he had never really needed them. It was comforting to know they were out there, but he wasn't making any plan on throwing down roots.

"So how long were you in the merc business?" he asked after another long swallow of ale.

Veiris hesitated but accepted the hug. He'd been used to keeping himself and others at a distance.

He shook his head at her hope. It was nice to have, but naive to keep after so long. "Its been nearly two decades. Nothing to be done now that hasn't been done already. If she could've come home, she would've," he said, trying to regain his composure. He truly hoped she died in battle. It was the least disturbing of the possibilities. It was sad to wish for the least evil instead of hoping for the best, but he had long ago seen the world for what it was.

He sipped at his tea to give himself another moment to work on his composure. After a few seconds of silence, he looked up at Claudette. "Would you mind grabbing my bag, please" he requested. He'd left it back at their other table.

Mynoris pauses for a few moments and looks as though she's trying to calculate the time. Then she shrugs her shoulders and gives up. "A few hundred years at the least, I would say," she notes. "It's hard to tell really; I have several missing chunks of time." This doesn't seem to bother her though. "What about yourself?" She grins. "I haven't settled anywhere long term for quite some time. When my world was around, I was fairly stationary. I had responsibilities that kept me confined to my realm for the most part. So when it didn't exist anymore, I found I wasn't in a hurry to tie myself down again."

Claudette listened without speaking. She felt bad for him; losing family was difficult, and she knew that as well as he did. Whatever he had to say, she knew it was painful for him. She didn't want to make that worse.

"Of course," she said at that last part.

She stood up and walked over the bag, picked it up, and hurried back over to Veiris before anyone could talk to her. She gingerly placed it on the table.

"Here you are," she said softly, sitting back down.

Finally, she said the only thing she could think of. "Your sister sounds like a brave and amazing person." She didn't want to use past tense. "It's an honor that you find even a semblance of her in me." Claudette was a tad bit pink, but she felt it was right to say.

"Thank you," Veiris said quietly as he grabbed the bag and pulled out his coat and scarf. He quickly buttoned his shirt with practiced ease. He slipped the large coat on and wrapped the scarf loosely around his neck, once more covering his tattoos completely. He felt vulnerable, and having his markings on display was starting to make his skin crawl.

"You look about the same age as she did, when she vanished, thats why. And she enjoyed a good fight, and a good blade. I never could get a good handle of the swords. I preferred the staff. But she used a blade as easily as she took to a familiar Shift," he continued explaining. The two honestly looked little alike, but Claudette was the right age and similar personality. And mostly, he just wanted to protect her like he couldn't protect his sister.

He wiped his eyes clear and sipped at his tea again. "Your tattoos, the Clerics may actually be able to help you," he said as way of switching subjects. And he decided dealing with Clerics may just be worth it sometimes. "They remove out tattoos, destroy the bond and magic thats there. I'm not sure if it'll work for yours, but they could try," he added.
