What did your mum intend to say?
Online translators... I made a fool of myself once (on a French forum) and I learnt my lesson. NEVER, NEVER use an online translator from your native -> unknown language. They only translate the word and not the meaning.
IE :
Only three left = Nur drei links to a translator. It uses the direction left when we went the word for remaining. Nur drei übrig would be the phrase we're looking for here.
I have used a translator from unknown language -> English just to get the jist of what someone is talking about if it's a long piece of text.
I use an online dictionary to save time, and if that's no help, I go with the book dictionary. They're the most reliable of everything.
Afterall, I feel that I'm still a beginner in German.

me and my friends are having a contest, we are both looking for emo bands in the language we are taking. biggrin
I was wondering if anyone here knew of any German emo bands?

Yeah... I don't really think the Germans have really devolved enough to embrace emo culture yet... sweatdrop
However, they have got some great industrial rock, by bands such as Rammstein, Megaherz, Eisbrecher... the works.

Litteraly translated it means something like "good/beautiful for explaining me you (polite) this whole time" Flagrante Delicto Grammatically, you're supposed to say something like "Wegen des Regens schlafe ich" but my instructor mentioned that some Germans use dative with the genitive pronouns (i.e., "Wegen dem Regen") even though it's incorrect.Now THAT is incorrect. You ARE allowed to use the Dativ in this case. Example: Der Hut des Mannes ist blau. (the man's hat is blue, Genitiv) Der Hut von dem Mann ist blau (the hat of the man is blue, Dativ) It is true that most people are forgetting the Genitiv and completely replacing it with the Dativ. It is not wrong per se, but it looks more elegant to use the Genitiv, especially when written. Sometimes though, it sounds better to use the Dativ: am Tag von Marias Geburtstag, rather than am Tag des Geburtstags MariasThere is, however, a third case (and that is the one you probably thought about Flagrante Delicto): der Doris ihrem Mann seine Partei Dem Sandy ihr AutoThese are wrong and are used in common language in some parts of Germany and are not very elegant. She thought what I wrote in a message to her was in German, so she tried responding back in German, but I wrote it to her in Lithuanian.
I have no clue what she intended to say. ><

However, the Duden allows both the Dativ and the Genitiv in that case, but the Genitiv is more correct. Also, there are some exceptions, when you're using plural and the Genitiv case wouldn't be recognizable: "wegen etwas anderem", "wegen manchem", "wegen vergangenem" (although anderem, manchem and vergangenem might be written with capital letters since the new Rechtschreibreform. I always rejected it, I think it's plain bs) There are actually different degrees of misusing the Dativ when you really should use the Genitiv. The wegen case is not as incorrect as der Doris ihrem Mann seine Partei , and that is what the book is about whee

Tokio Hotel is such an emo band. It's scary, you would never believe the singer is actually a ... male neutral

And people (emos) in the US think I'm crazy for detesting Simple Plan, AFI, Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance, Green Day... some of which are "punk" and "not emo," (but they're one in the same to me) and all of which have band members who are... what's a nice way to say this... transvestites.
I'll tell you this, though. Play some Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Van Halen or Dethklok in front of them and they'll vaporize! Like vampires can't stand sunlight, emos and punks can't stand good rock... actually, emos can't stand sunlight either... no offense to any reading this, but it's damn true (at least for a majority of emos).

Koko.Dk They can even make up words too. I wanted to know what the french word for Hilarious was in french and since I did free translation it came up with "Hilarant" which isn't a real word. So I looked it up in my dictionary and got a totally different word which was correct. Hilarant actually IS a real word ^^ and guess what... It means hilarious... xd What was the word you looked up in the dictionary?
