mute_coyote TheDisreputableDog Fiddlers Green TheDisreputableDog I gave blood today for the first time. Did they give you cookies afterwords? I know one of the blood banks in my area will give people a free ride to an eatery in the area, to discourage driving after giving blood. I got cookies, juice, and pie! But I went all shivery and loopy afterwards so I had to lie down for a bit. Sounds like reactive hypoglycemia. Ever had that experience before after having a lot of sugar? I don't think so... I just had water during the donation, and started feeling really cold and shivery when it was almost done. The technicians kept asking me if I was okay, so I guess I looked weird, and they told me to lie down for a bit. Then I had the pie and juice, and felt better after the food and the lie down. It seemed odd to me that they offered us Coke, though. Seems like a counterintuitive beverage.

TeaDidikai I wonder if Ryuk's apple obsession is supposed to be symbolic of his ties to the mortal world through curiosity and thus is a reflection of the Fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. That's what I wondered at first. Seemed reasonable, considering. Strangely though, in an interview with the writter, he claims that he wasn't thinking of the symbology of the fruit when he chose it. Ohba (I think that's his name) just said that he thought apples were cool. Subconcious relation perhaps?

TeaDidikai SpaceTerminal Destiny In other news, my History professor used the proper name and called the ethnicity, Roma, instead of "gypsy". That made me smile. I needed that smile. Thanks Space. Quote: Of course, I got confuzzled when he said that all the groups he listed had nations of their own outside the Austria-Hungarian empire. I though the Roma didn't have a nationality at that point? We are a nation, we do not have a nation. In essence- we are united by culture- and in effect- we have a national flag, a national anthem- we just have no land mass to identify it with. I think he meant a physical location with actual borders. He was talking late 19th century, so around the time when the Poles had Poland, Croatians had Croatia, etc.

I think you mean that you are a nation, but your nation doesn't have a state. Nations don't need borders - they are simply groups of people that share a common language, religion, culture, etc. For instance, there has always been a Slovak nation, but not always a Slovak state.

That's a whole 'nother thing. I wonder if giving blood causes a drop in blood sugar. I know that juice and/or cookies seem to be the remedy of choice when it comes to someone getting faint while giving blood, and it's pretty effective in my experience. hmm... EDIT: That and the fact that "shivery and loopy" pretty well sums up most of my experiences with low blood sugar.

I think it's your body's kneejerk reaction to blood being drawn. Causes a spike and a drop in your blood sugar. It happened when I was getting my tattoo done, and orange juice, chocolate and tea that was mostly sugar fixed me right up again.

LadyBanhammer I think I might have Irritable Bowel Syndrome... ._. That sucks. I have ulcerative colitis which is very similar. I take prescription meds 3 times a day, plus a store brought brand called colpafin if I get painful spasms (I reccomend them). Also, start taking note of your diet. Do you get bad after having things like wheat, red meat, tomato etc. I don't eat red meat anymore because of it. -- Argh, I could never give blood. Good cause and everything, I just have a freaking phobia of blood tests. I pass out during them (which is quite common) but I alsop a** out before them out of fear. sweatdrop
