"Altering text to a whole knew thing is rather quite the advanced skill. And rune mages never take on more than one apprentence at one time. So you won't be having any buddies now will you. You'd only be distracted anyhow."
But he was monitoring things as any teacher might, and he only leaned back against the counter, watching. "I do hope you like to taste what you cook..." No he wasn't saying that just to be mean either.

"Distractions are nice sometimes you know. You dont' have to work all the time, sometimes it's nice to have some down time and be able to do something...well fun. The imps introduced me to it and I've foudn it's rather enjoyable." She stirred and monitored the boiling things keeping an eye for congealing ingredients on the bottom like she'd been taught and monitoring both color and smell. "Not when it has lizard, bat, and fuzzball blood in it I don't. Why am I tasting this if it's used to rune?"

"Because if you want it to be right, you have to know everything about it. One thing off and it's not gonna work. Of course you know...if you're going to be picky you don't have to make it...then again I guess you won't be runing anytime soon then if you can't stomach a little goo."
He scratched at something on the counter a moment then turned attention back to her. "And I do have my own fun, but there's a time for fun and a time for learning. Now is not the time for fun. Stop stirring that and let it settle on the bottom, then pour off the water and let it heat again. You want a kind of pasty like consistency." Thus the blood mostly.

Right. Okay she could handle that, really, she could. She'd been making potions for a very long time and knew quite a bit about them. The technique Sevilin was describing was called, 'topping it off' and was usually used in salves or pasty poisons. She stopped stirring and basically left it alone for a little bit, leaning against the counter with her arms crossed and just watching him. He still unnerved her and she didn't like that at all. But she was going to have to live with it, now wasn't she? That didn't make her happy. Finally about ten minutes or so later she poked at it with a spoon and sure enough it was beginning to congeal. A few more minutes and she lifted the pan, carefully and poured out the water that was still bubbling on the top. The water washed down the drain and she set it back on the stove but was careful to watch it this time as it would all too easily burn. The only problem she could see, she didn't hae any idea what it was supposed to taste like. Ah well, she supposed Sevilin would have to tell her if it was tasting right or not.

Did she have to watch him like that? Made him nervous when she stared...who knew what went on her her head, especially with her instincts and thier altercation of the other day. Sevilin was whole heartedly beginning to regret it. In attempting to show her what she'd never be having, he may of spurred her to getting what was forbidde. He was just hopping that he was being overly paranoid.
Sevilin cleared his throat as she went about doing what she was told as he was leaning against the counter, arms crossed and being observant, braid tossed over his shoulder and hanging down his back where on the floor a little ferret was up on his hind legs to reach, playing with the end of it. "Get it to caramelize some but not enough so that it's going to harden when it looses heat. Caramelly, pasty, thick...that would be the look you're going for.
Though he did get a random spoon, dipping it it just to coat it before scraping his finger against the spoon then putting that finger in his mouth. Yes...he did just put an mixture of vile ingrediants into his mouth. Where he promptly took to coughing from it slightly. "Yeah, that would be it." Spoon was held out to Zahara expectantly of her.

She rolled her eyes, "I do know what I'm doing Sevilin, I really don't need you to tell me how to make it so much as tell me what the final result should be." She stared at that spoon for a long time taking it and putting it up to her nose, sniffing it. Horrible smell, horrible taste, horrible potion. But if it would let her rune, well she'd make sacrifices. She dipped her pinky into the mixture and then used her forefinger to scrape a good bit of it off then opened her mouth and licked her pinky. Her eyes closed and her mouth turned pouty for a moment as she really got the sour taste. Finally she opened her mouth once or twice and then took a deep breath. "That's horrible but I'll forever know when it's correct now." She shifted the pot to a little cooler spot on the stove and watched it carefully until it was carmelized but not burned, a nice consistent paste, not too watery and not too thick. In other words, it was perfect.

"How can you know what you're doing if you've never done this particular thing before? Hm?" Yes he did take joy in debunking her little knowledge bouts in some way. Though he did smile at her reaction to the stuffs taste. Yes, she would remember that for the rest of her little elven life. "Good, because we won't be repeating this lesson." Simple as that. "Pour it into a jar and clean up. We're done here."

Rolling her eyes once again, she could tell him exactly how many cracks were on the ceiling she'd rolled them so many times, she shook her head. "I've made so many potions and they're all basically the same. After all, most potions follow the same basic technique. And yours is just like a poison I used to make all the time, not to mention the sleeping potion. I've made potions that will make your hair curl and you stomach wish it was made of steel." She let it heat just a little bit longer and then very carefully poured it into a jar and capped it. "There we go." Now it was time to clean up. A bit of blood had to be wiped up and she was rather happy that she'd already disposed of the remains of the creatures they'd used to make it. The pot found its way into the sink where it was then washed, dried and put away and the counters wiped down. "There we go. Kitchen's clean, potion's made, now what teacher?"

Sevilin rolled his own eyes and gave an exasperated sigh. He was quite sick of her right now. "Enough barking on your potion skills...feeling the need to validate yourself to me? After all, it's always the litte dogs that bark the loudest." Yes it was a veiled insult to her. He couldn't help it, he was tired of her being condescending.
"And I'm sure I've had things poured down my throat that would even disgust you." Indeed he probably had. Lloth only knew what he had forcibly ingested over the years. He was surprised he held up as well as he had. But he went quiet and let her to her cleaning and what not, before gesturing for her to follow back to the dinning room and thier little workspace.
"Now you get to see if it works." Grabbing a piece of paper he scrawled down that all to familiar runic circle, along with a seperate rune. It was mostly harmless, only meant for her to get the feel. "Draw the circle on the table, in a decent size, let it dry a little. Then draw this rune in the chaos star."

Her own eyes rolled once again, he was being rude once again. She hated it when he marked down her skills but she did not feel the need to validate herself, she knew how damn good she was, dammit. She was the freaking prodigy child for Lloth's sake, it had been pounded into her head again and again and again how good she was with magic and potions. But she picked up the jar and walked into the dining room then uncapped it and dipped her finger in the almost gel like mixture. coating her finger, she easily copied the circle onto the table in a bit larger scale and then studied that rune for a moment allowing the circle to dry properly before she copied the rune into the star. "There." The gel began to glow interestingly enough and even she could tell the rune was activating. "Oh..it's doign it!" Yes, she was excited.

He had to hold in a chuckle and a look that could of been very condescending as she seeemed to revert to child like excitment over a little freaking rune. Of course after activating all that rune did was glow brighter than the others. Which was understandable, it was after all a light source rune. That as it's function.
"Well, looks like you did indeed do your rune aid right. That you will use to rune because you can't use your own energies. Now, they won't be as effective because it's not in fact your energies. Alternatively the only way to make it stronger to you is to put your own blood in the mix when your'e making it, but that's another lesson." Sevilin crossed his arms lightly before petting at Nym who had jumped up on the table.
Piper was doing her best to not make too much noise, or freak out or not. Just remain calm, take a breath, it's just a little pain...it only hurt so bad because the little guy had a sensitive part, snd he didn't know his own strength. If she freaked out, she'd scare him and things could go bad. What was happening? One little Armor style Zephmare, had hold of her hand...in it's fangs...and was biting down rather hard, fangs sunk into her hand. Wouldn't hurt so bad if her didn't have her in the curve between her thumb and index finger with her index finger and middle finger in it's bite radius. Ouch indeed. Though she got worried at the little nicker he gave at the taste of blood, sounded half intrigued and half scared. The fingers of her other hand went to aid the first...just had to loose those fangs without freaking him first.

Malik moved back into teh kitchen, hearing the girlish squealign and bubbliness, and looked at teh runic circle, nodded, and picked up the rat and lizard body parts, putting them in a bag and handing them off to a slave, before makign hie way out to the stables.
Of course once out there, he gave a small grin. one of the Nightmare crossbreeds had Piper by the hand. and he knew about a Nightmare's teeth. Ramoth had bitten him plenty of times.
"Well. You're not supposed to be feeding them, thier mother is."
Nightmare moved by her foal that had Piper by the hand, and nipped him in the flank. you can't possibly kill and eat that elf, so stop toying with her. besides, she panics, Malik panics, and then I get to hear about it.

She, Zahara Val'Ril, banished and almost sacrificed Drow, previous prodigy, had actually runed and activated said rune. Oh that made her happy. Very happy. She watched as the rune lit up and remained lit but then she remembered from her studying that it was probably just a light rune. But the point is, she had done it and that was an accomplishment in her book. "You can also do it with just your blood, right? Using your own energy, the way you do it?" Yes, she'd been doing some research in her spare time. There were a few books that made references to runing in Malik's collection, although she wasn't sure if they applied to Andallian runes as well. She glared at Malik, "Why does he do that?! Just randomly come in like that? If he wants me to learn anything, he needs to stay out of my way."

With her two free fingers she managed the method one would use on any animal to open it's mouth, press down on it's tongue. Not to mention the n** from mom helped, startling the little guy a little and he had opened up and pulled fangs out just enough for Piper to snatch her hand back. A look to Malik and his grinning. "Too busy talking to you in my head...they're currently in the habit of biting at things that fluffter, I happen to gesture with my hands a lot." For a moment she studied her hand that was oh so nicely sporting puncture marks and leaking blood. "Ow...those things are sharp..." Her bandana was taken off with one hand and then wrapped around her other. Eh she'd deal with that later, she had other things to do. Thus back to that bag she had with her, fluffing her hair first and then pulling out and dagger. "Figures it's yours that bites me." Holding hair in one hand and dagger in the other, she starting to taking to slicing at the red and silver stands, trimming them up.
Head butt right into the dirt. Look at you causing trouble brother! You're always causing trouble! Back up on our feet, head bonk back. You hush up, you were trying to do it too! Thus the two went about thier fighting again, running under and in between the legs of mom and dad to try and avoid one another...before cohercing the other two to take sides and join in.
Malik was spared a passing glance as he had stopped to glance himself at what they were doing. Oh well good, he didn't mind her writing all over his tables with a horrid mixture of questionable consistancy. Alright in his book, not like he was going to be cleaning it off.
"Yes you can, though it's a different approach. When using just blood as base, innate magic needs to be strong and in tuned to, seeing as the body will produce energy upon using magic. Now I myself do not use my blood, but just innate bodily energies. We're called rune mages for a reason as opposed to to just runers. To be a good rune mage requires a tight grasp on one's own innate magical abilities. If you don't have those, you're wasting your time."
Another rune drawn and pushed over to her for example, he was just running her through basic harmless ones so she would get the feel for the stuff and what not, and to mind her motions. After all, if that circle was smudged, it wasn't going to work.

Well that certainly wasnt' a concern now was it? She had innate magical abilities, inbred from her father. Damn mage. And she could literally close her eyes and sense the very power running through her veins. SHe knew it was there and she knew how strong it could be. Her own experimentation with her abiliites had tuaght her how powerful she was. "Well, that's not bad then. I think I could probably handle that one of these days." Might have to try that while she was alone one day just to see exactly what it took. She glanced at the paper and drew the new rune but when it didn't activate she became perplexed. She'd made a mistake somewhere, seh just didn't know where.
