Well that didn't go over to well with her though she dind't actually say anything about it. What did he mean not spending too much time in them today? That was what she'd been looking forward to. Something to take her mind completely off the events of yesterday as well as her less than successful night of reverie. But now he was changing things on her and she didn't like it at all. He'd shown his true colors to her yesterday and that scared the hell out of her, one hand under the table resting on the hilt of that dagger at all times, just in case. She quirked one eyebrow at him and stopped studying. "What do you mean?" Terse, short sentences. She was still unsure around him, not sure of his mood or what was goign on in his head.

A soft smile for a moment at Malik at his shifting and mumbling. He was so cute when he did that...like when he blushed and it turned his cheeks purple...though that didn't happen much. It was still one of the things that stuck out in her mind at times...even if that time he had done it, it was fake and only a ploy to try and win her over to get her into her collar. Her free hand rubbed at his shoulder lightly before coming to cradle the back of his head as he cuddled into her, thumb lightly brushing over his ear. Oh so that was what mother had send her...
A look down the table. Despite his agitation, his voice was level and soft spoken, almost as if he was in the best mood in the world, though clearly by blank expression he was not. He figured it best to not agitate the water anymore than it was already. For a few more moments he picked at his food.
"I mean that book study isn't going to be the objective of the day. I think you could use soem hand on study time...you may prefer it to the book study. If that proves more useful to you than the traditional method then we'll switch to that. Whatever helps you learn after all..." Oh yes, this was awkward.

Not much food was being eaten at this point and she leaned back in her chair and simply stared at Sevilin. More traditional methods? What in the name of Lloth was he talking about? Wait a minute...hands on? That had to mean letting her rune which made her glance at him again. now why would he let her do that? If this was some kind of peace offering or something like that...well she'd take it but she wasn't allotting for peace. That hand tightened on the dagger and she simply shrugged, "Alright. you're the teacher after all. What does hands on entail?"

"Means that you'll book study less, write and draw more." Note that he didn't say scribe, because that implied runing itself which she wasn't going to be let to do. This was merely doodling symbols on paper that had no power to them. Not like she could activate them anwyay. All was safe to let her.
"Sit down with some paper and a something to draw with, work on drawing the runes, learning how to make them take on specific functions. Functions which you will write down...seeing as repetition breed success. Writing it in your own hands will imprint it better on your memory. If you need the help I help you."

Well that sounded like oh so much fun now didn't it? Instead of draining her mind she was going to be causing pain in her wrists. She merely sighed, "It would be far too much to let me actually rune, now wouldn't it?" Yes she was pissed about that. He had no idea how good at magic she actually was. Dammit she'd been the prodigy child for Lloth's sake. But no, he was going to continue to treat her like she was brand new at this entire thing and make her draw pictures. Fine, she'd draw the damn pictures but eventually he was going to have to face facts and let her rune. She began scribbling on the paper, scratching out the symbols not really all that well but well enough to actually pass. Of course she began scribbling down the functions in her neat script and soon she had writen it all down, glaring at him every once in a while.

He had to clench a fist to keep an outburst in. She couldn't take this in stride at all, could she? "Only far too much because it can cause a severe amount of pain and problems to those who have never done it before. Mistakes in runing can be crippling or fatal. You have to walk before you can run, Zahara." Yes let us keep that level tone, don't act out.
But he watched her for a good bit of time, his food forgotten, before he walked over to her, and took her book, closing it and then her notes as well, closing them, removing both from her immediate reach. Then a clean sheet of paper was given to her. "Draw for me all the ones you can call to mind, and correctly mind you."

ear twitched at her touching, murmurign again and nuzzling lightly, hugging her a bit, eyes starting to flutter, trying to get the rest of him into the world of wake elves. Then a bit of a yawn, and eyes blinking open, look, Piper. hey, note. what is that note about? wasn't she giggling earlier? curiousity now.

For the moment, she was oblivious to Malik being more or less awake now, her hand on him merely responding to his nuzzling and movements more than anything. Piper was still smiling at that note in her hand, head fondly tilted to the side so that her hair fell in her eyes some, the shade of her hair only making the gold in her eyes stand out more. Another giggle at the note as apparently it got light hearted again. So far she was on the second page of it now. Though she side glanced Malik to see Malik's eyes open with that just woken up look to him. That was incredibly alluring too. With a smile she leaned down, pressing a kiss to his lips. "Morning A'mael." A cheek to cheek nuzzle at him before her eyes had turned back to her note.

Purple eyes flashed and she glared at the paper in front of her, "Testing me already? Don't I get five minutes to study?" Well...I guess not. All the runes that could come to mind...well, she closed her eyes and thought about it for a moment then recalled the sight of Nym in her mind. Well that was one rune down. Quickly scribbling the life one and then she drew the ice, fire, wind, and earth runes direcly after. They were pretty close to the same with a different shape corresponding to the type of rune it was. Well that was five. But she'd studied so many more and in order to save face she was going to have to draw a lot mre. Her mind ran through images trying to piece together a few more runes and she managed to draw a couple more though not perfectly. Concentrating right now sucked as she was antsy being across from him and just waiting for him to get upset with her again.

"It's not a test. You'll know when I test you. This is merely an exercise to test if anything has been getting stuck in your head and if you can recall it, that simple. It's only been three days, no need to test you this soon." A sigh and a shake of his head, why was she trying to turn this into a fight? He didn't have the energy for that...reverie hadn't been too kind to him at all.
Though he returned to his end of the table and gave her her space as she took to jotting down things that she knew. Honestly he didn't expect her to know a lot at all...after all, it had only been as he thought earlier, three days. He only got up and walked back over when she had set down her pen.
With a trained eye he looked over her work, tracing accuracy with his eyes. Then a slight smile and a nod of his head. "Very good, I'm impressed...honestly. You obviously applied yourself. And her I was thinking I was going to have to put you through the wringer like I was." Hell he'd been fussed out enough when he was younger about this all. But the pen was picked up, two of those symbols were crossed out, seeing as they weren't correct, but next to the others he wrote a word.
"Alright, let's see the extent of your application, give me the varaint for the rune type." The type which had been written down, applications of them to armor or weapon, protection or offense.

Oh so now he wasn't testing her, he was merely pop quizzing her. "Ah pop quizzes. And what if I fail?" Not that she really cared. It didn't much matter to her whether she learned this stuff or not, Malik was the one who was being so demanding. When he judged her progress she couldn't help but smirk, "Is that a genuine compliment I heard? By Lloth, I'm shocked and gratified." That made her feel much better that he could actually see that she hadn't been just playing around all those times, but actually studying. Honestly runing fascinated her but most magics did. She'd tried different expirementations when she was a child and found the key to unlock most of her abilities when she was young...which in turn had made her a prodigy child. "I told you I studied." She glanced at him for a moment and then pointed, "This one can be altered and changed to help healing purposes or extend life, this one is good for offensive purposes..." That was about the extent she knew. She hadn't really studied the words more focused on the runes themselves. And now she was goign to look like the bad student once again. "This one...umm..." Sighing she tossed her pen down and sat back, "Lloth be damned I don't know!"

"It's not a quiz. And if you fail, I get a headache and probably yelled at. Does that please you?" He had no doubt that Malik was probably not too happy with him on right now. After all he had kind of tossed his surface trash pet around the other day. Didn't know exactly how much he had rougehed her up...but she probably ratted him out anyway. Damn thing.
"But yes, it's a genuine compliment. Shows you apply yourself and it sticks. Don't let it go to your pretty little head now, or it might swell and pop off your shoulders from that restrictive collar of yours." It was picking, but not horribly mean picking. Though a nod as she went about telling him a few things...then seemed to give up.
Sevilin merely returnd to his side of the table and sat down, watcing her from where he sat. He was being civil only to avoid the headache. "It's okay if you don't know beyond basic uses, I was just seeing how far you were reading into things. Your fingers need to be more versed than your mind in this art anyway."

Now wait just a minute...this was odd. She had been all set to defend herself and curse him for testing her on this stuff too quickly and blame him for the fact that she didn't know it as well as fend him off when he got to slapping and he wasn't doing any of it. Quite frankly she wasn't sure how to react to this. He'd complimented her and...teased her? At least that's what it sounded like to her. But why? Why tease her? That didn't make any sense whatsoever...alright, she'd go with that one even though she wasn't sure. "Well, okay then..." She would have to be careful though and not do as well for a while, perhaps he'd attribute it to the fact that se had just had a lucky day. After all when she showed how good she was at things, people tried to harness her abilities and use them to their own advantage, which was not right and she refused to allow it to happen again. "So then....?"

What she didn't take positive reinforcement. He didn't know how to deal with this woman at all. Being mean to her seemed to be the only way to get through to her, but he didn't take any particular joy in it at all. He'd be just as content to have her not throw fits and him being level headed about this all. But with her instincts in gear, she was unstable as hell and that made her even harder to deal with.
For a moment he drummed his fingers on the table. "Let's go on a ramble, shall we? You're going to have to learn to make some things for this little profession. A runing aid if you will for students. Though you'll have to make it yourself. If you don't...well then you won't be runing any time soon, now will you?"

One quirked eyebrow was his response. Was he teasing her again? MEntioning runing to get her cooperation and hten not intending to let her do it. Or was he just trying to get her to do his work for him? It wouldn't surprise her in the least. Her sister was famous for that. She'd call her into a random room, give her a chore, adn tell her that her mother had passed down that that's what she was supposed to do. Zahara would do the chore and if it was done well and her sister got complimented, which rarely happened not matter how well done it was, do you think Zahara would get any of the credit? Nope. But that was jus fine with her, she'd rather not be in the spotlight as far as she was concerned. "A ramble? Sure I could use a walk to stretch my legs. What kind of stuff do we need?"
