The Duchess was just beginning to write a letter to the Earl when Marcus burst in. "She's not with child!" he exploded, upon entering. The Duchess blinked. "She's...she's not?" she repeated, her voice faint. "No. She's not. Get into the coach. We're going to go tell her father."
The Duchess bustled into the coach as quickly as she could, and positively beamed at Terryn. "Bless you!" she cried, throwing her arms around the not-to-be-daughter-in-law.

Terryn squeaked a bit, not expecting the sudden outburst. She patted the duchess on her back and seperated herself. "Forgive us for the misunderstanding. The thought never occured to us."
"Beezle...feather...PETITE FOURS!" Evelyn snorted and rolled over onto her back, still snoozing.

The Duchess cast a perturbed glance at Evelyn and turned her attention back to Terryn. "You haven't the slightest idea of how relieved your father will be to hear that. The poor man was almost out of his mind." And with that, the coach began to move.

"I think he already was if he was so easily able to disregard what I have been telling him for years." Terryn sighed and looked out the window, her mind still full of questions. "How did you two come to such an assumption in the first place?"

"We...well, we overheard you two talking. You were upset at the time, saying something hadn't gone according to plan. And given Marcus's record..." the Duchess looked at Terryn guiltily. "I jumped to conclusions. I do hope you'll forgive me."

Terryn sighed. Well that is what happens when you can not mind your own business. She didn't say that of course, but nodded instead. "I understand. Next time, though, please just ask us if there is some misunderstanding." She looked towards Evelyn, hearing her grunt, and raised an eyebrow. "Can we please rid ourselves of her first?"

"I've no objection," answered the Duchess quickly. "I didn't want to be rude...but, well, why is she here?" she asked curiously. "Marcus, we're going to Evelyn's home!" she added, in the same slightly annoyed yell that she usually adapted when speaking to Marcus.

"Wonderful. I have been to that house before, do not be surprised when it looks as though it has been abandoned for a century. They have money, but they are too cheap to spend it on such luxuries as basic upkeep." Terryn rolled her eyes and looked at the girl drooling all over herself. "But of course she will buy the most outrageous clothing and makeup possible."

"Outrageous is right," said the Duchess grimly, casting a critical eye over Evelyn.
The carriage stopped abruptly, and Marcus swung open the door shortly. "Who wants to wake her up?" asked Marcus lightly.

Terryn sighed. "I best. I do not think either of you has been properly trained in Evelyn handling." She got up from her seat and knelt down in front of the girl, looking her over for a moment. She finally rolled her on to herside and poked her right underneath her ribs in the center of the chest.
Evelyn snorted a few times and shot up into a sitting position, causing Terryn to fall back. Her hair was askew and she looked like she had just been rolling down hills all day. "Wha?"
Terryn went back to her seat and gave her a formal sort of greeting smile. "Hello Evelyn."
"Terry?" Evelyn squealed. "Terry, what you doing here eh?"
Terryn twitched a bit at the name. "Oh, Evelyn, do you not remember? You are having a dream. Now is the part of the dream where you exit the carriage and go into your home."
"Really?" Evelyn yawned and shrugged as she wiped her mouth. "Well alright then, bye Terry and dream people." She climbed out and started ambling back to the house.
Terryn let out a sigh of relief and rolled her eyes. "Welcome to my family..."

Marcus blinked and moved out of the way wordlessly. "Right. Right, so...we'll go to your house now, Terryn. Tell the Earl the good news," he said faintly, shutting the door again and mounting the horse.

Terryn nodded, sitting as far back into her seat as possible, mainly to avoid the drooly bench opposite of her. "So...is this the reason you and my father were keeping us from seeing each other? And why ou were forcing marriage upon us?"

The Duchess nodded, a rare pink flowering across her face. "Yes. We thought it was the only way to force marriage upon the two of you--although, even if you two were to-be parents, you would probably resist all the same."

Terryn laughed inwardly. "Yes...we probably would." She sighed and lookedup to Marcus with a small smile. "May we finally see each other again?"

The Duchess smiled lightly. "If your father has no objections. Which, I doubt that he will." It was relieving that Marcus had finally found someone with brains, that was a good influence on him, and a pleasant change for her.
