any combination of bladed weapons with guns is an abomination. You can't have both, you must choose!

I'll second that. I always gagged when I saw someone try to make an effective gunblade-type weapon. If you like to slice things and you like to shoot things, you have two options: carry a knife along with your gun, or carry a huge rifle and add a bayonet. Combination weapons are almost always total failures.
EDIT: I make an addendum for the Lancer Assault Rifle from Gears of War. That thing kicked epic a**.

The gunblade was based on the idea of a primitive vibroblade. The bullet fired, while it didn't do any real damage, caused vibrations up the blade of the sword that increased damage. Not a horrible idea, but not one that I'd base any stock in for real life whatsoever.
And yeah, Siefer's looked cooler, but it was even more impractical than Squall's was. Besides, everyone knows the best characters in that game were Irvine and Quistis. razz

What i would make is gauntlet blasters. Huge gauntlets with blasters that open and close in the knuckles. Irvine and Quistis were ok... Zell was the best.

By the way, I blame you for my fresh TF2 craze. Never played the game, knew very little about it...and now the Engineer owns my soul.

Stop sappin my Sentry!
Um... yeah.
Anyway. I'd like to point out that any deviced designed to fulfill more than one specific purpose is inherently less effective at that role then a specialized device.
For example, the Jaffa Staff Weapon may make a decent club, and a decent ranged weapon. But fails as a ranged weapon when put alongside an M16 or P90.
