Another look up the table at her at her processing of the information. "Joy indeed isn't it? Book learning can be so enlightening can't it?" A chuckle...oh he could tell she wasn't happy and that made him happy. Yes he welcomed her displeasure.

"Those squiggles are going to be your best friend for a while. Learn to love them." A scoff from him them as he was scribing things on paper with charcoal, not even looking but having perfect little symbols. "Chop chop, get to it." It was bad enough he had to sit here and supervise.

She flipped through the book looking at different symbols, tracing them on the pages with her fingers. The paper felt strange to her and she ran her fingers over it not sure why somethign was niggling in the back of her mind. This was odd. She closed her eyes at his comments thinking for a suitable reply and her fingers ran over the bumps again. Curiously she kept her eyes closed nad traced her fingers all around realizing a moment later that the symbols themselves were raised. That made sense. One could run their fingers along them and memorize the different curves and just how the symbol was actually drawn. THis might be a lot easier than she'd originally thought. She sat there for a long time, tracing the symbol with her fingers until she had a clear picture in her head of how it looked from teh movements her fingers made and then looked at hteh book. Life Rune. Alright, one run down....gabillion more to go. This was going to be a long two hours.

He smirked...he knew what she was doing. He'd done it enough times to know and still did it sometimes to refresh his memory. Though of course he had to mess with her, even if she had gotten the basic idea on her own. "Don't just feel the pages...make sure you read them. They're common, so I know you can."

She wasn't going to get away with just memorizing symbols and flipping pages. She needed to know how to tweek things in thouht and work a rune to a multiple use. It wasn't going to be easy at all.

She muttered something under her breath about how freaking complicated this was and 'b*****d' and 'mages' was in tehre somewhere as well. But she ran a hand through her hair, bent her head and began to read. At some point she got involved in it, magic had always fascinated her, the power, the control, and she'd always been good at it. Cleric magics hadn't taken her long to learn at all and usually if she tried doing something new she had it down in no time. It dind't look like runing was going to be the same and that just pissed her off. Why couldn't Malik learn this crap himself. She was getting tired of studying, her neck hurt and finally she slammed the book shut and shoved back her chair, standing up.

He had been keeping meticulous track of tim on the edge of his paper that by this point was full of little rune doodles. What she thought she was done? A light snicker before looking up at her down the table. "Where do you think you're going. I suggest you sit down and continue your studies before I have to make you. You still have some time on the clock and I don't allow breaks."

Malik had grudgingly accepted paperwork. and right now was going through a ton of it, stacked on the desk next to him. paperwork in Tier'Dal and Common, requests and purchases. the slave market of course in Deepwater was rapidly drying up, even the black one. however, Llothian drow still had thier uses for slaves, and he had a strictly buisness dealing there. in fact, other slaves in those cities to do the selling and negotiating. in honoursfield, he brokered out slaves as 'indentured workers' having those that wanted or needed extra help just paying him a weekly fee for the use of his 'help'. that was also how he was working around Jiscal's freeing of slaves in Deepwater.

One paper was in common, outline the absolute basics of the deals, what they were paying, what they were getting in the most laymen and easily manipulated terms. the paper in Tier'Dal, however, had the real dealing on it. specifics, loopholes, what the slave coudl actaully 'work' or sell for, and how much he was getting and every concievable way to sneak in extra fees or backdoors to cut and run if needed. of course Llothians were a different matter. they paid what they paid, after negotiations. there was really just no need to backstab a Llothian for a slave trade. since they usually bought them for sacrifice or breeding. not like the slave had any kind of longevity there, or could be taken back froma 'broken' contract and sold to someone willing to pay more.

And of course the Necromancer requests for more bodies to work with, more components, more of this more of that.

And the new cinnamon trade. He still was keeping the Oracle's request to close the portal under advisement, but he wasn't seeing anything happen. after all, bodies never passed through, only crates of cinnamon and in return for Underdark specific items, mostly magical components or the harvestable seaweed.

Another new trade, one he specifically was looking into, was jewelry. apparently Piper's ring at the Tournament did catch an eye or two, and he'd had mail delivered from jewelers asking about it, hoping to learn what rival had caught the drow's attention. After all, elves were very selective. After being told it was private information, he offered to sell them what he would 'purchase' for a markup fee. thus, he was charging the jewelry vendors twice the cost of making the jewelry, though they though it was a small markup, maybe ten percent.

It was positively irritating to sit there and watch him go through paper after paper after paper. Hovering much? Of course she would...because from past experiences she knew the moment he was out of her sight and hearing range he'd try to go do whatever it was he wanted to. Though she was looking over her own papers and what not. Malik had his business, she was putting hers together with the help from dear old dad of course. It was kind of funny...his papers were mostly in a language she couldn't read, hers were in her own so he couldn't really read them. Who knew what the hell both of them were really doing. Though still the occasional looks to Malik between pen scratchings on paper. Yeah he was still angry with her, didn't blame him he probably had a right to be.

Her neck was killing her, eyes were glazed and she thought her brain felt like it was going to explode. There was no way she was going to be able to sit there for another hour or however much longer she was going to be forced to sit there. By Lloth her brain could only handle so much at a time. She shot a glance at him. "I'm taking one. I'll be back in a little bit." And she headed out of the dining room and into the kitchen to grab a quick bite and then towards the stairs heading toward her room.

Oh ho ho...she thought she was going to get away. He let her wander a bit adn let her think he wasn't going to fuss about it...why fuss anyway when he didn't need to yell at her to get the point across that this was his time and it would go his way. No exceptions.

So then a simple activation of a rune...that nice little spot of warmth he knew she would feel on her forehead. Fisting his hand like he was grabbing a rope...he gave a jerk back of his arm as if he was yanking hard on something. Oh she'd learn

She really needed just a little bit of time to relax and chill out, give her brain a small break before it melted and she was thankful that Sev seemed to be willing to give it to her. She'd just gotten on the second stair when she felt that heat on her forehead and then it felt like someone had grabbed her and pulled her back, causing her to lose her balance and stumble back. If she wasn't so quick on her feet, she would have fallen and probably hit her head against the stone wall. As it was she grabbed the banister to keep from disgracing herself like that and took a calming breath then walked back into the dining room. "You've made your point. Now why can't I have a break?"

"Because you are fully capable of sitting for two hours without needing a break. You priestesses train for more than that without breaks. You're just being lazy. Learn to read your information right and you won't dull yourself into oblivion. And if you do...well you'll just have to study more."

With that a point to the seat in front of those books. "So sit, and study. You only have a half hour, you'll survive." Yup, his way was going to be how it went. And back to his own little practice sheets of paper.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 09, 2006 3:35 pm

She sat back down but she didn't study. Merely traced her fingers along the paper and pretneded to study. Instead she was thinking about all the ways she could torture Sevilin and Malik. The many things she could do to them for making he rdo this. The tortures were varied, from tying him in a bent position straining muscles and cutting every major tendon and muscle tissue all the way down his body extremely slowly to just slicing off his head and popping it on a pike. That woudl be rather nice, now wouldn't it. She smiled her fingers still moving.

Eventually he sighed, and stretched lightly, folding up papers and what not, shoving them into pockets and belt pouches. He didn't like to leave his little experiment ideas around the place...especially here. A crack of his neck before he looked down to Zahara.

She had that non tenative look about her. Oh well, he'd see on her tests now wouldn't he? And they were irritating too. Part demonsration part explaination. He would know if she was trying to bluff her way through. "Okay you're done. You can go play now."

She rolled her eyes and yanked herself from torturing him and smirked, "Gee thanks Daddy. Can I have a pony too?" She slammed her book shut and shoved it at him. "Are you thinking we're doing this tomorrow the same time? Or are you actually going to let me alone until a semi decent hour?" She watched him for a moment, wondering what he'd done during that entire two hour time. He couldn't have been studying, he was a Master.

He smiled at her in that mocking way. "If you're good enough, sure I don't see why you don't deserve a pony." Said in the exact same tone she was using with him. He wasn't about to let her think that she could irritate him. Though he only looked at the book, stood, picked it up and set it on top of the other two as he had walked to her end of the table.

"Sure do. I get up early, I like to start my day early. This is the first thing I put on my agenda. You'll get used to it Sweetheart." Loved the condescending nickname... it was perfect. Why? Because she wasn't sweet and she didn't have a heart. Contradiction was great.
