And eroded and corroded all matter of stuff. Not to mention, the toxic fumes that the planet's atmosphere would be filled with stunk like Hell, making it difficult for anyone to fight back, assuming their gear falling apart from the erosion wasn't enough.
Then, a force of troopers that are specially equipped for it can make planetfall and take over with minimal resistance.
