Your magics can still work if you don't get HIT by the AMP. Only after getting hit by it does the infecting take place.

Even if the king dies, the monarchy remains. Someone'll take the throne. The treasury won't disappear in a puff of smoke. You'll still get paid.
Unless, of course, a dictator takes advantage of the chaos of the clashing forces to seize the city for himself, and decide that your only paycheck at the end of the month is your life if you do things right.
Of course, I'd nevr do that. <3
