As the image of the unknown man swirled into existence, Sayrike furrowed her brows. She recognized him.

"Isn't that...Rumpelstiltskin?" The blue mage may not have watched Unce Upon a Time, but it was popular enough that she knew who most of the characters were. But why was he here? I guess because ABC is owned by Disney...kind of like the Power Rangers thing. Still, why was he here? What was he playing at?

"Hm, you said he was also responsible for bringing back Kairi and King Mickey? Did you interact with him much? Or did he just drop them off like Vexen here?"

Sayrike thought again for a minute, realizing something. "Do you know the story of Rumpelstiltskin? I'm not sure if you know of Earth's fables--actual fables, I mean."

"I'm afraid not," he said, glancing to Sayrike when she mentioned she mentioned his name. "However, even without knowledge of his history, he arouses... distrust fairly easily. It was made very clear, after all, when he would only bring them back if we fulfilled a bargain."

"They were brought back unharmed, however, and the bargain struck was a paltry price in comparison," he added, stroking his beard as he glanced back at the vision. "So he was a great help, in that regard. Is there something particular we should know about him?"

"Well, more information about an untrustworthy person couldn't hurt, right?" Sayrike replied. "While I am happy King Mickey and Kairi were found, I don't know if the price he asked for should be considered 'paltry;' maybe his story would help?

"Rumpelstiltskin originally came from a folk tale, so there are many variants of the story across cultures, but this version is probably the most famous. I'll try to keep it short. Basically, he struck a deal with a girl who had to spin straw from gold, or she would be killed. He spun the straw for her three times, and each time she bargained something different--her necklace, her ring, and when she had nothing left to give, Rumpelstiltskin desired her firstborn. The girl didn't foresee herself having a child anytime soon, so she agreed. However, she got married and had a child, and at that time, Rumpelstiltskin came to collect. The girl pleaded to keep her child, and Rumpelstiltskin struck another bargain--if she could guess his name in three days, she could keep her child. Eventually, by luck one of her messengers discovered it after watching Rumpelstiltskin in the woods, singing a song in which he said his name. The girl gave Rumpelstiltskin's name, and Rumpelstiltskin either runs off, enraged, or tears himself in half on accident, depending on which version you adhere to. Make of the story what you will--he is either strikes decently fair deals with those in need, though out of selfish reasons; or he likes to take advantage of people with no other options.

"Now, I don't know what this Rumpelstiltskin is like because he is...embellished and changed from the original story, a character who was created for entertainment purposes. But if we ask around, maybe one of the other Earthlings might know more about this particular version of him. Still, at his core, he's based on this fable, so it's a place to start from."
Sayrike paused before asking for Yen Sid's own story, "Is it possible for you to tell us about your dealings with this man? What did he ask for?"

He nodded slowly as Sayrike spun the story, taking the information in.

"Dress spheres, and a large-scale protective enchantment that would deter outside influence unless allowed by the caster, like the enchantments cast upon the train and airship you've used" he explained. "However, being the origins of such an enchantment, Merlin and I could unravel it, should it be used against us in some fashion."

"And we could do the same for the dressings," Flora said, nodding adamantly.

"So I guess we'll note to look out for'im," Riku said, crossing his arms as he looked the man over. "Dunno what he'd used the protection for, but dress spheres... you can get clothing easily enough. I'd wager he wanted them to help control summons. Maybe other Earthlings?"

"Possible," Yen Sid replied, still pensive.

Dress spheres and a protective enchantment? The protective enchantment sounds like he might use it to protect himself, like a secret lair of some sort...or maybe he's going to give the spell to another client, and they'll use it? Unfortunately, Sayrike had fewer guesses about the dress spheres, because she wasn't as sure about how that magic worked. The dress spheres were also very convenient for traversing all the different terrains of the different worlds--like changing us into aquatic forms when we wanted to go to Atlantica. Maybe Rumpelstiltskin--or a client--had to travel somewhere that wasn't easily accessible.

"The thing is, I can't imagine you are the only people who he has dealings with. Isn't it quite possible someone else wanted the dress spheres and a protection spell? Or, maybe, they wanted examples of your own magics, either to exploit, build upon, or manipulate?" She internally sighed. Too few puzzle pieces, and no idea of the big picture. Rumpelstiltskin worked for himself, ultimately, and so in the end, he wasn't much of a threat--he wouldn't be coming after Disney or the Earthlings; they were potential customers. Rather, it's the people he's making bargains with we should be concerned about. And there's only so many people out there who would have use for dress spheres and deterrent spells...

The blue mage looked down at Vexen--err, whatever his name now was. "And there's also the question of this former Nobody. Should we wake him soon?"

"We were going to before you had your questions," Yen Sid replied simply, and though he personally showed no reaction, Riku only barely hid the twitch of his lips as he unconsciously smiled.

"The protective enchantment is by no means a unique spell. To be honest, I am surprised it was one of his requests," he explained. "He made it clear it was for an acquaintance to cast, so even if they attempted to twist it back against us, it would be pointless--the scroll had no ties to our own protections and was for an individual barrier."

"The dress spheres, as well, had special conditions. He wanted them usable by those other than earthlings, and he specified that there should be no trinity charms," he continued, stroking his beard some more. "So, again, they were made without connection to our own. Indeed, if these things were acquired to work against us, then it would be quite the chore."

"Further, for collateral while we waited, he gave us a very unique sword--one, I noticed, was forged with light magic," he continued, and the image of Rumplestiltskin was joined with the image of a crimson and gold greatsword. "The blade itself would be a great bane against the darkness, and he implied that it belonged to someone else."

"If he is as crafty as you imply, then it's clear he wanted us to know he had this blade," he said, and he looked into the young woman's eyes, raising a brow. "What would you make of that, young mage?"

"It's the best one-word description for what you are in here, really," Bobbi said, still pacing around the throne. "You aren't physical, you're metaphysical. And, well, I have a lot of theories about why you're here, but neither of us are likely to get answers to them if you don't even know who you are." She had paced around to the front of the throne, well within his line of sight, and shrugged, offering a lopsided grin.

"I'm not saying you're not real, by the way. I'm just saying that your body is out there somewhere," she waved vaguely, indicating somewhere in the real world outside of her station, "while your consciousness, or at least a part of it, has decided to wedge itself in the cracks of my heart." She was passing over one of those cracks at the moment, and tapped her heel against the edge of it as she walked by.

The boy in belly dancing attire let out another long, quiet, "Eeeeeh?" as she talked, closing his eyes half way, laying his head on the armrest sideways, "I see... or maybe I don't. Ne ne, Bobbi oneesan? Is it my turn to ask a question? Does that count as question one? And that two? Or that three? This is going on for awhile isn't it. I think you asked two technically, if those were three of mine.. no wait, four, you get another two. Hehe, you're good at this game. Rhetorically, I wonder if you're really as good a person as you are at asking questions. Next, Bobbi oneesan, next question!" He laughed again, grinning through a smile of sharp teeth like a shark.

She blinked a little at Louis' seemingly random rambling. Then she laughed, blushing a little in embarrassment and rubbing the back of her neck.

"Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to kind of take over the conversation like that," she said, giving the boy a sheepish grin. "God, if I am as good a person as I am a question-asker, I must suck as a person. I always lose the questions game... But as to you asking me a question, yes, Harry, you just did. You may ask me one other, however." Her grin softened to a playful smile, and her tone deepened and took on a British accent in her best Dumbledore impression. Which kind of sucked, since her voice was way too high, but that never stopped her impressions before. Then she switched back to her normal tone and said, "Or however many until we're even."

The boy rolled over in the chair, now laying on his stomach in an awkward, and rather uncomfortable looking position with his back arched in, arms crossed under his chin with his legs lifted up and bobbing back and forth over his thighs, "Ooooh?"

The boy rolled his head and rested his cheek on the back of his hands, yawning deeply. There was a strange shift behind the boy and the throne he inhabited. Like that optical trick one sees when staring through the air just above a flame. It was very small, but it was noticeably getting worse, "Bobbi-neesan... are you a good person?"

Bobbi pursed her lips a little and stopped her pacing, staring off into space above Louis' head. A slight frown creased her forehead as she saw the odd distortion. Like a heat shimmer, only… not. She certainly found it odd, but decided not to say anything about it. But she'd keep an eye on it, that was for sure.

"That's… a good question, actually," she said, slowly, still thinking about the question. Was she a good person? She was chosen to fight when her home world was destroyed, and every piece of evidence she had pointed to the Light being what chose her. And the Light was good, right? Still, there was always a doubt in the back of her mind. Too much light could blind… She wanted to answer with a decisive and enthusiastic "yes," but if she was honest, and she always tried to be, then that wasn't the right answer.

"I do my best to be," she said after a long moment. "But I'm human; I make mistakes, I get angry. I'm just as flawed as the next person, really. But I always try to be the best I can, to be always fair and honest and…" She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, worrying at it a little as her frown of concentration deepened.

"I guess, the best answer is that I think I'm a good person, and I try to be a good person, and that's really the best I can say. But probably the best judge would be a third party. Probably someone impartial; my friends would probably be biased in my favor."

[[Louis? : Station of Awakening]]

[[Tsukiru by Sano Denji]]

"Soooodesuka," he mused, his eyes half closed again, as though bored, but just like that he was gone, this time standing in front of her, leaning forward slightly, enough distance between them that she could see past him, but still startling, "Then..." he smiled widely, closing his eyes with a purely gleeful expression.

Whether she understood what he meant, with his next words memories were dredged up from the depths of her heart, displayed upon the black expanse behind the boy like an endless projector, the darkness suddenly brought to life with ghosts of the girl's past screaming like nails across a chalkboard ripping itself into her eyes and arresting her attention and emotions. Drawing her back to that moment, "Why did you sit there... and watch him die?" Atlantis, Ajora slowly rotting from the darkness eating away at him. She stood there, watching, as she felt her heart sink, a sharp grip sinking in, driving in dull nails, the pain in her chest worsening as the image behind the smiling boy flickered back and forth like a broken videotape.

{Bobbi .:. Station of Awakening}

She stepped back involuntarily when he popped up right in front of her, heart racing in surprise. One hand went to her chest, feeling her heart pound even through the leather armor she still wore. Her brow furrowed, and she opened her mouth, either to reply or to tell him off for nearly scaring the crap out of her, when the memories were pulled from the depths of her mind and heart. Her hand clenched into a fist and the other came up, pressing against the pain in her heart in a vain attempt to ease it. She took another step back, then another as her eyes misted with tears.

And along with the pain came anger.

"Well I certainly couldn't have saved him, now could I?" Bobbi snapped, taking the ache in her heart and turning it outwards. Hot tears born as much from rage as from sorrow spilled down her cheeks. "I'm not a healer, he was dying in front of us anyway, there wasn't anything I could have done! And don't you dare start on me about a mercy shot, either! He was giving us information we sorely needed, and I—"

Her eyes widened a fraction, then narrowed into a scowl, and this time she took a step forward, her fists slowly lowering to her sides.

"You manipulative little s**t," she spat. "You pretended to be an amnesiac just so you could pull this bullshit on me? Trying to guilt me about Ajora's death when my guard was down? I don't regret it, you know. The man was a rabid animal; he needed to be put down before he destroyed more innocent lives! And if you really think I'm stupid enough to cut off an information source for the sake of mercy—"

But that was wrong. She did regret his death, just as she regretted any loss of life. Just as she should have put an arrow through Ajora's head to spare him the lingering pain, and whatever else he might have suffered at the hands of Seymour and Kuja. Bobbi's voice broke on the last word and she choked off, too incoherent from her surging emotions to continue.

He's right, she thought, the tears falling faster now. She backed away again, burying her face in her hands. After a moment she ran her fingers through her unbound hair, gripping tightly at her scalp as she bit her lip hard enough to bleed. She wasn't looking at Louis now, but rather at the glass mosaic at her feet. What kind of monster just leaves a man to suffer like that? I could have ended it cleanly and quickly. And all this talk about getting info off of him is just a justification for actions I know were wrong. I let him suffer because I'm selfish, because I wanted to see him hurt as much as he'd hurt us. That's not justice, it's sick. And now I'm turning my anger at myself out on Louis.

"I'm sorry."

[[Louis? : Station of Awakening]]

[[Cue: Growing Wings(English Version) by Nobuyoshi Sano]]

As the girl sputtered out her words of apology, it was apparent, that his expression throughout the entire ordeal, shouting and tears alike, had never changed, simply his joyous grin ever gleaming off razor teeth.

"Heh," he straightened up then loosened his muscles, drooping his shoulders back, tilting back then sideways, while his arms hung limp at his sides, "Hehe," his shoulders shook once or twice as he opened his eyes to look at her, the same eerie glow present contrast against the now pitch black backdrop, his smile never leaving his face, "Hehehehehe," he lurched forward awkwardly, then back, never breaking eye contact as the glow intensified, "Hehehehe- Haahahahahah- HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA!! Eeeeeeh, heheheheheheee, AHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA AAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ehhe hehe AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!"

At first she didn't hear the laughter. Her mind was winding in tight little circles, stuck in the rut of self-loathing and anger and regret, and it took a moment to register that Louis was laughing at her! Surprise stopped her tears and Bobbi looked up, hands loosening from the roots of her hair and sliding from her face.

"Wh-what?"

That glow in his eyes was back—or might not have ever left. And it was growing stronger by the moment. His laughter didn't seem mocking or anything. It seemed more… insane or hysterical. And the fact that he never seemed to break eye contact, in fact hardly seemed to blink at all, it felt like he was going insane and pulling her down with him. Or maybe she was going insane and he just beat her to the finish line?

While Louis' muscles had seemed to relax, hers instead tensed to the point where she was trembling all over. Her shoulders hunched and she hugged her arms tight to her body, backing away a step or two again. Part of her wanted to lash out and stop the laughter, but she was too busy trying to keep herself from going off the deep end with him.

"Enough!"

The shout echoed from the void around the station, followed by a blast of ice right at Louis' feet. Bobbi's head snapped up and focused on the figure of a blue-skinned woman walking towards them, anger in every line of her posture.

"Shiva," Bobbi whispered, glad beyond words to see her summon.

The boy's laughter echoed off long after the boy had vanished the moment the spell had been loosed in his direction. "Daameee~*" Came the boy's scream a moment later, sounding like a whining child. Atop the throne's back, the boy sat, one leg crossed over the other, as he leaned forward on one elbow in the thinking-man-pose, "Ne ne, Bobbi-neesan! Shiva just tried to attack me, I think? Is this part of the game? I'm not sure I've played with these rules before~" the boy paused rocking from side to side with an inquizitive look on his face before adding, "This seems like fun~"

He giggled wildly, looking down at Shiva from his eyes with blackening sclera, veins spilling out black ink, which fluttered as that same distortion from before now engulfed even the throne itself, not just the space beyond, "Not nice to pull tricks like that Shiva-baachan. You have to explain the rules first, otherwise, I won't be able to play properly~"

(( * - For those who don't know, "Dame" translates loosely to something like, "Don't do that" ))
