Kaegan's back was to Q as he walked up, watching Tsurai run laps. Undoubtedly he had broken something or, said something offensive to earn his ire. When he heard footsteps he turned around giving Q a wide smile. "I saw you had a good raid this morning," he began quietly. "But I can't help but wonder if you got it from a kitchen or not. What'd you find?"

Bornes watched as Kaegan turned around, and yawned into his hand before answering.

"The places where you had found things before were dry," he said finally. "We found some things to the east, but there wasn't any gas. No kitchen." He shrugged.

He knew Kaegan was probably going to pry for more information than that, like what exactly the building was, but Bornes didn't want to play that game. He didn't want more than just him going out there. He wanted more deer.

He changed the subject, hoping Kaegan was one of those types to be easily distracted. Walking up to Kaegan's side, he too crossed his arms in a similar fashion but motioned to Tsurai, who was running around.

"Why is he running laps?"

It was not even that many seconds later when a new person walked onto the stage. He had tanned skin, green eyes, and angled chestnut hair that went down to his midback. He was covered in dirt and grime like the rest of them, but otherwise, wore black jeans, boots, a bright green shirt and a black jacket with black fingerless biker gloves. This new person couldn't have been any older than 20. Maybe he was 18 or 19. His most astounding feature was a pair of metallic goggles with green lenses. The lenses glowed faintly, like a glowstick. It reminded Bornes of how his eyes tended to glow. These goggles were atop the new person's head, currently not in use.

His name was Jiden, and he was carrying a little box in his hand that looked to be made out of various pieces of metal, plastic, and... Possibly glass. Bornes couldn't tell. A more knowledgeable person would've known it was a makeshift water filter.

"Hey Kaegan," he called out, trying to get the alpha's attention-- Jiden was the resident engineer. He made things work out of what would've otherwise been junk. Somewhat of a childhood genius, one could say. He was one of the few people who didn't have to establish rank in Kaegan's little troupe. In fact, he was treated rather nicely, since he basically made this living hell ten thousand times easier to live in.

But the green eyes of Jiden spotted the tail on the back of Bornes before he could continue his would-be conversation with the Alpha.
"HOLY CRAP" the boy said excitedly.

"I thought they were joking about the werewolf!"

Bornes turned around, a confused look on his face. Jiden shoved the filter in his jacket pocket rushed up to Bornes.
Jiden knew Bornes had no rank, and he also had pegged the man to be the laid back type-- from what he had heard. So he had no problems tossing away any sort of respect in favor of surprise and study. Scientific study. For purely scientific purposes. Of course.

Once he ran up to the tailed man, he reached for the tail. He started an excited "Is this real?!" but the phrase never got finished-- it was cut off somewhere between the 'th' and 'is' in 'this' -- as Bornes swooped around, grabbed Jiden's outstretched arm in his own, and flung the boy to the ground on his back, Bornes still holding his arm.

The hybrid glared down at Jiden, who was trying to catch the breath he just lost. He gave a weary smile. "Wow. That was... Wow."
Clearly he didn't expect anything like that to happen to him. Not from a person like Bornes, anyway.

In response, the hybrid began to twist the teenager's arm. "What were you trying to do?" he growled.

Jiden was in pain, but still tried to play it easy. "Hey, hey now. We're all cool. Space issues, I got it," he brought his free hand up in a form of surrender.

Bornes loosened his grip slightly and stopped twisting, but didn't let go as he let out a low growl of disdain.

'Space issues', indeed. After what Bornes could only assume he had done to Isiah, he certainly did want his space, and he certainly did want to assert his masculinity, prove he had testosterone.

And with Kaegan right here, what better way to do so, and possibly impress the Alpha?

Bornes was starting to like this pack business already.

Kaegan turned his head to Q, about to open his mouth when Jiden appeared with his water filter, immediately distracted by Q's tail. He chuckled inwardly as he watched the two speak back and forth, and then when silent as Q flipped Jiden over his shoulder, tilting his head to watch as Jiden writhed in pain for a moment or two before he put an end to it.

"That's enough," he said quietly. "He needs his arms." He chuckled a little, offering his hand to help Jiden up once Q had released him. "No luck on that kitchen, still."

Bornes hmphed and let go of Jiden's arm, taking a step back at Kaegan's order.
The teenager shook his head at Kaegan's offer to help him up, and got up on his own, brushing himself off with his good arm, and then rubbing his affected shoulder and elbow.

He turned to Kaegan once he was done, a disappointed look on his face. "No? That's too bad. What did you find instead?" He didn't know that Bornes was the new scout.

He moved his affected shoulder, rolling it back with a grunt before reaching into his jacket pocket with a short sigh and pulling out his water filter that had thankfully survived the fall from the hybrid.

"So here's your filter. Just be careful with it because... Well.. Frankly I'm surprised it survived that little pummel. But regardless." He held out the filter for Kaegan to take.

After Kaegan took the filter, Jiden lowered his voice to a whisper and put his hand to the side of his lips, in case the hybrid could lip read.
"Is that guy for real? What's he do?"

Bornes, his hands already re-crossed over his chest, flicked his tail in agitation. "I can hear what you say," he growled, turning to Jiden, as his back had previously been to the two as they talked out of politeness.

Instead of answering Jiden's actual questions, he simply glared at the boy, who was about three inches shorter than Bornes.

"He's our engineer. Smart kid. We're trying to find a kitchen or something with some wiring and filters for him to work with." He took the filter gingerly, smiling, looking it over. "I don't know how you do it.." He paused before putting it into his cargo pocket.

He paused a moment, putting his hand on Jiden's hurt shoulder, squeezing it tenderly to make sure it wasn't dislocated before releasing him. "I don't know what exactly he found. Bornes here," he thumbed in Q's direction. "Is our new scout. He came with Isiah a few days ago."

Jiden squinted slightly but otherwise held back any signs of his arm soreness as Kaegan squeezed it. "I do it with science," he chimed in. It was Jiden's little private joke. Normal people gave a sarcastic 'magic' response. Jiden's was 'science'. Except instead of sarcasm it was in all seriousness. He was weird. But he liked Kaegan. Who wouldn't?

When Kaegan pointed over to the tailed man, the teen looked over again inquisitively. "So he has super senses. Like any werewolf is supposed to?"
Ehhh Isiah. Jiden didn't get any good vibes from that guy, though to be fair, the teen had only seen the man from a distance. He knew he should've liked Isiah, since Kaegan liked him, but Jiden wasn't that trusting yet.
His attention was stolen away toward Bornes.

Quatre Bornes still glared toward Jiden, an uneasy look on his face. "I am not a werewolf. If you are so..." he waved his left hand around as if to shoo away a fly "...into science, you would know werewolves could not exist."

Jiden tilted his head in minute degrees, pondering. "Then did you get surgery to put that tail on? Are you a furry?" Furry. Jiden was referring to the fetish related to anthropomorphic animals. Something rather popular on the internet. Bornes had no idea what that was.

"No, I was born this way. And I am not furry...." He was slightly confused by the furry question, but let it slide.

Kaegan bit the inside of his cheek to keep himself from laughing, listening to their conversation for a time before putting an end to it with a curt clearing of his throat. "Leave it," he warned, Jiden quietly. He knew the boy would push until he was told to stop.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 12, 2008 6:59 pm

Jiden shoved his hands in his jacket pockets and tapped his right boat's toe on the ground behind him in annoyance. He still wanted to ask more. Bornes must've been genetically engineered... Or something. Which would make him some sort of a miracle. But what would anyone bother doing that? Wouldn't that be a waste of money and resources? Furthermore, hadn't all trials of that sort of thing failed, anyway?

He hmphed.

Bornes stepped forward, his hands still crossed over his chest, much like Kaegan. Perhaps it was rubbing off. The two of them in practically the same position, and both with grey hair... Perhaps they could be father and son. Perhaps Isiah would've laughed.
"How often do you need me to go on these scouts? Should I go today?" the hyrbid asked, a bit too eager. He had to put effort into resisting the urge to lick his lips.

Kaegan shook his head. "No. You have the day off today." He had planned to follow along the path with Jane to see if they could find anything else, along with the kitchen. He had a feeling that Q wasn't really looking hard enough- just intuition.

Isiah sat up with a grunt as he roused to wakefulness, rubbing the back of his head. He all ready had a good tennis-ball effect of stubble across his head, groaning inwardly, his muscles groaning as he pushed himself onto his feet, brushing dirt and grit off of his back where he could reach. He wandered over to the well to get a drink of water, inadvertantly joining the comradery. "You're up early," he mumbled to Q, lowering the bucket with a sigh.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 12, 2008 7:20 pm

Bornes quirked a brow, slightly taken off. "All right." Was Kaegan catching onto him? Bornes had not actually lied. He brought back a great deal... No, he told himself. If he got all paranoid over it, then Kaegan would know something was up. Bornes just shrugged it off and tried not to worry about it.

He and Jiden looked over to Isiah once he joined the group.
The teen's mouth slanted and he took a step back. The curiosity that was Bornes wasn't enough to make him stay while Isiah was here.
"See you later," he said, opened-ended, toward Mostly Kaegan but also Bornes. He lifted a hand haphazardly in a half-wave and walked off toward his home.

Bornes watched him walk off, wondering if the engineer could do anything for him. Probably not, he surmised, his attention going to Isiah.

"You're up late," the hybrid shot back.

Isiah sat down on the edge of the well, sipping cloudy water from it with a grunt, setting the bucket down on his lap. "Touche," he offered back, ignoring the fact Kaegan was even there.

Kaegan was not lost on the awkward feel of the situation. He whistled, high to low, Jane jogging from his domicile to join him, an empty army duffel in maw. The canine walked north out of habit, Kaegan walking afterward, wordlessly. He'd be back in a few hours. His night walks with the dogs were becoming a pretty normal habit so none of the older members thought much of it.

Isiah's eyes wandered from the few other Denziens that were awake, releasing a long sigh. He felt tension- it meant someone was going to come for him today. Possibly the zeta whom he'd beaten to get in- possibly not. He was ready, but unwilling. Truth be told he'd be happy to spend the whole day on his back if he could.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 12, 2008 7:31 pm

Bornes hmphed at the use of french, but quirked a brow at Kaegan leaving with the dog. He tried not to show how uneasy he was, but his tail wavered, and anyone who knew anything about dogs would've been able to tell while the man watched Kaegan walk off.

He didn't even look toward Isiah, simply turned around. "I'm going to go back home," he said flatly, walking off quickly. He wanted to get out of everyone's sight so he could do a quick and quiet freak out about what Kaegan would do to him if he found that storm cellar he neglected to mention... Purposefully.

The night flew by without incident, despite Isiah's gut feeling that something was brewing- the pair retired wordlessly once the sun rose, Isiah once again on the floor, halfway beneath the cot, his arms extended beneath Q as he slept above him.

As other denziens began to wake and stir, Kaegan returned with a full bag of supplies, wearing a grimace that most understood to mean trouble. Jane had trotted off to hide as soon as she'd returned with him, hiding under his bed- Tsurai would know this as a signal that something was off. The teen appeared outside their home, half awake, hair askew, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "Kaegan...?" He began.

Kaegan ignored him. He walked in a straight line toward where Q and Isiah were sleeping, blocking the sharp morning sun as he stood in the doorway, a moment or two before grabbing Q by the collar of his shirt, pulling him over Isiah with a yank out into the center of the 'street', pulling him down the center back toward the well where a group was gathering. He tossed Q down into the dirt, picking up the bag to dump out the hefty jars of venison. "Want to explain what this is?"

Isiah grunted as Q's legs were dragged over him, shaking himself from sleep before jogging to follow him. "Kaegan, what the hell are you doing?"

Kaegan held one finger up. "What IS this?!"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 12, 2008 7:55 pm

Bornes had not made the same mistake as the last morning, and had fallen asleep with the sunglasses on this time. That did not help him at all once he was dragged outside, however.

When he was grabbed, he wasn't quite sure what was going on. He was dragged over Isiah, and his only words were a "What the hell?!"
Once Bornes had reached the outdoors, he squeezed his eyes shut behind his sunglasses and let out a growl. "What are you doing?? Hey!" Bornes tried and failed several times to stand so he could walk the distance. He should've just let himself be dragged.

Once he was thrown down near the well, he already had a scowl plastered on his face. He still wasn't quite sure what was going on. He had stewed for a while before he went to bed about what Kaegan would do, but this was not foreseen.

Something was unzipped. Bornes couldn't see the jars come. The first few hit his face before he was able to put his arms up and try to protect his face. He had called out in pain for the first one or two, but after that just grit his teeth. He could hear other footsteps. He wasn't sure where he was, but he was sure more than one person was around.

And the person yelling at him was Kaegan. Definitely Kaegan. He kept his arms in front of his face. He was completely blind and he remembered distinctly telling Kaegan that. He was ******** opened his mouth to say something, but then slammed it shut, exhaling loudly from his nose. Anything he said would just make it worse. He chose the silent route.

Kaegan waited for an answer, frustrated when it didn't come. He reached down and slapped Q across the face, hissing. "You thought you could keep this for yourself, dog boy?!" He slapped him again, on the other cheek. "I let you in here and you do this to me?! This isn't the damn YMCA!" He stood, giving Q a vicious kick to the gut.

Isiah winced, muscles tensing. If he fought back too hard, even verbally, Kaegan would challenge him, and he wasn't sure that was a fight he could win. "Kaegan, please- I'm sure he didn't mean-"

"This is survival!" Kaegan barked, kicking him again. "OUR survival! Not just yours, you goddamn leech!"
