Sigil, I'll be absolutely serious with you here because it seems like you are earnestly looking for feedback, or at least you're making an effort to try and understand why you've seen such a backlash against you and your character. Now, I hardly know Fier or care. Part of the reason I picked on you initially is because you've been smug about other competitors and their character's abilities before, and you serve as perhaps the biggest example of the disparity in power level from one profile to the next. I'll admit up front I have not read your fights in full, and that besides that and that I do believe your character is absurdly OP for this tournament, what I have read of your IC posts has given me the impression that you are, in fact, a decent roleplayer. First, I suggest you really listen to Darth (The Thunder Tyrant). Second, you keep bringing up your fight and your character build like you're surprised anyone would find it OP. I actually don't even blame you for having such an OP character in this tournament. That's all on Vin for accepting your profile as-is, then backtracking later because he could not even convey an accurate assessment of the tournament's power level. But let's look at your build. -You've got two axes that inflict debilitating diseases. One solid hit from one axe alone could do most of the fighters in this tournament in then and there. -If taken at full effect, the diseases (as far as I have seen) are basically meant to cripple the opponent to the point of hampering their ability to fight back. All a passive, completely magical effect that simply come as a result of a hit or a scratch. -Chains of Ice is OP for this tournament. I already explained why in great detail. Don't even pretend like it's not. To recap: Unbreakable (for the purposes of this tournament, given that the opponent would be bound and doesn't have a lightsaber), instantaneous, remote cast, 2 post duration. Ridiculous. -Death Coil? Also stupid OP. You're acting like it took you a great amount of tactical planning, skill, and effort to put Fierach's character into a position where he could not dodge it, but by the way the technique works it is literally an auto-hit for some severely damaging effects. Go ahead and try to argue it's not. Don't give me that "well, at range..." because you would never use it at range so that is completely moot. So, taking all those into consideration, plus whatever else... Let me ask you this... I want you to very seriously consider the answer to this question... Does it take a commendable amount of skill or effort to win fights with this build, or do these abilities pretty much win fights for you if your opponent chooses to succumb to their full effects? There's your answer, dude. Right there. Although if you have some other insights I'm missing as to why I'm wrong in this, I'd genuinely love to hear. I can admit I don't have all the facts and I may be wrong, but right now all I'm seeing is that you're trying to pass this all off like Fierach is the only one being a d**k here. Edit: Well, ********, as usual Darth covers things more eloquently and concisely. But there, that's at least 2 different people with more or less this viewpoint so maybe that helps...

You should put how long they last in the posts, I don't remember seeing it htere last I looked. Even if it is metagaming, I think people would probably feel more at ease with taking the hits if they knew that it wasn't going to be there the entire fight, you know?
That's the thing with status effects - if people don't know how long they last, they might not want to subject their characters to it.. For all they know, it might be complete BS and last the entire fight.
Personally, I don't even give a s**t if people mitigate the shock effect of Deitric's attacks. Lots of people do it. Lots of people don't. I don't even really care - it's not gonna bother me, and they're not the primary means of attack anyways.

Tresondros Ecstuffuan Or whatever that blood thing is that increases the impact. My mistake. but yeah, my point is, the reason that they loldodge so much is because they probably have to just to keep it going. I can agree though, if you get cornered, don't bullshit to get out of something but at the same time, you can't fault the opponent for taking every potential and possible out to a situation. Like Deitric says, this is a competition and you need to play fair but like the internet says...Aint nobody got time for axes of death every move. So cue lots of loldodging. Tres, my character fired a volley-ball sized orb of decay at 30 mph out of her hand at a target within two inches of her fingers. And it was dodged by falling backward. Seriously, what? I did the math. It covers that distance in a thousandth of a second.

Sigil Warden I clearly quote both attack and disease descriptions in each post where they are relevant. Except for what I just advised you to add: Quote: Frost Fever: Base: The target is affected by unnatural chills and is cold to the touch. This effect does not respond to heat of any kind. No explanation of how long it lasts. None of the other diseases have a duration listed either. Blood Strike and the other "Strike" attacks have a one post duration, but if diseases have a two post duration, they aren't listed. I mean, I might somehow be missing it entirely - it is 3 am here - but I don't think I am.

But Lets be real. Thats really powerful. A ball that from what I'm gathering on looking through your fight a couple of times. Its a ball that necrotizes flesh on contact, leaving a nasty, painful wound that can destroy muscle tissue and effectively shut down a limb or destroy an organ. and your character can build 10 runic power in one post. So you could probably use that move every other post. What the hell is wrong with Vintrict?

Ah, well, my thought was that if they plan to get hit by the disease they'll ask for details. I also have shown in the rare case of Frost Fever and Blood Plague being applied that they last 2 turns in the Stat Block.

Well it has an arbitrary cooldown attached to it so I can only use it every third turn at best, though its unlikely that I would given that it's better applied to the shield.

@ Grim I understand why Chains is overpowered, and why the other abilites can be devastating... but the thing is, why am I a d**k for trying to use my abilities to their full effect?

Doesn't exactly matter, because this is a point where Vin was supposed to say, "He can use this every 3rd turn, and if he does that would be very bad. Hell, 1 use is very bad. Gotta say no to this one as-is." I think it was Hael who mentioned before that part of the profile grading job is looking for exactly how a character's abilities can be abused to their fullest, even if the player never realized it or never intended to use them that way.

At the end of the day, although Sigil's character doesn't have an implied upper length, the implied rules for the tournament is that every character runs out of something sooner or later. The more a character uses supernatural moves, the more energy that burn from their body. So even if you didn't list it in your profile, we expect people to play to their character's stamina/ energy supply. If someone is spamming moves constantly, they are burning their reservoirs faster. Applies the same to those who enter into extraneous bursts of physical activity in a short period of time.

The current version is the nerfed version. As originally submitted it had no cooldown because it was meant to be, like in WoW, a Runic Power dump for when the character had nothing else to do.

Sigil Warden @ Grim I understand why Chains is overpowered, and why the other abilites can be devastating... but the thing is, why am I a d**k for trying to use my abilities to their full effect? Because they're identified as OP and it's very bad form. You can say it's not stupid to use them to their fullest since they were accepted. That is Vin's fault. I don't blame you for having an OP build. But it's still bad form to abuse that OP status. You're free to abuse them, but I'll gladly call you out on your s**t if you start whining like, "maaaan Fierach's always dodging!!!" as if he's the one who's being the d**k. And also if you come again with that "but it takes me lots of strategic planning to land my axe hits and abilities! totally!"

Always good to give all relevant info upfront whenever possible. Makes it clear for your opponent, and can minimize confusion in any forthcoming discussion that might arise.
Unfortunately, I've had opponents who have purposefully avoided describing their character's ability in detail because they wanted to use it in a way it wasn't meant to be used.. so from experience, I'd say that it's always appreciated when all relevant information is present whenever possible, especially when it comes to ability descriptions that we lift right from our profiles so that people can see we're being true to our profile's limitations.
