You may not have taken the time to read my fights in full, the one with Slash or the one with Fierach just now, but I am, for all my competitive rhetoric, trying to cooperate and reward my opponent when he has outsmarted me. But neither opponent has returned the favor, so I am thrust into the conundrum of having to either also become a loldodging jerkoff or continue to eat their damage and be graded poorly because I took too much damage while my opponent was bleeding slightly from a cut eyebrow or whatever.

Yeah but part of this is because what you are roleplaying...

Fierarch for all intensive purposes is human...

I mean you said it yourself a while if gets a flush hit from anyone of your characters attack. He should be royally ******** why meta-gaming is bad. You essentially force people to be a d**k to you... not saying that Fierarch isn't one already but just saying that even I would just spend the entirety of a fight with you circumventing your attacks.

next time ...come with something a little bit more responsible. something with less "hidden" weaknesses and more "hidden" strengths.

Well, I'm not accusing you of playing like a shitheel or anything. But I'm also not going to say that your opponents did either. It's often - just as in the real world - that sometimes both people are at fault. That's where communication comes in. I mean, sometimes you're gonna get people who just don't want to work s**t out and it's their way or the highway 100 percent.

I mean, did you ever send them a PM about one of their moves and go "You know, I'm not sure this works, my character is doing this and yours is doing this and it doesn't make sense, is there some way that you could do something different or we could see if there's an issue with how we're looking at things?"

A lot of times, just doing that from the get go - and maintaining that attitude - is enough. I generally let my opponents know that if there's an issue with any of my posts, to just tell me, and I'll work it out with them. I do the same for them, which is why I've had TWO judge calls in five years of tournament participation. I've also won pretty much all of my fights except.. four. Two no contests, one draw, one loss. Rest of them, over five years? Wins.

Although to be fair, yeah; I think if you sit down and design a character specifically to win a tournament, then you're probably being too competitive. For example.. I didn't do that. I listened to a speaker at a pow-wow discuss the Comanche creation myth, and I liked the idea and it gave me an inspiration for my character.

So I ran with it and made Deitric. I didn't make him to win any tournament; I didn't sit down and say "What concept can I do that will be successful?" I made the concept I WANTED to play. Let's face it, if I had built Deitric to win, I wouldn't have given him an electricity-based powerset, only to mostly limit him to fighting-game styled techniques revolving around fist fighting. He seriously never had a range attack for the first three or four years, and even then I've been iffy about giving him one.

But I made the concept that I wanted to play. Whether I won or not was immaterial, I wanted to play this character with this kind of powerset and I thought it would be interesting. Did I want to win? Sure. Was that the purpose of designing my character's kit? No. It was part of the character. I found it interesting, so I did it. Whether it was successful would really depend on me more than anything.

I view playing my character, or making a character, the same way I do with entering tournaments: I want to do something interesting. I want to do something I'll enjoy, that'll give me a challenge. If I win, great, that means I was doing something right and that I played my character well and used their poweset well. If I lost.. big whoop, it's roleplay.

Here's the thing. I talked with Slash over Ventrilo, and while we were amicable, the content of the conversations was basically "Well, there's no way you can get around this because Dithakar is a master martial artist with an unbreakable staff and Muay Thai and is also basically immune to both disease and magic."

In my fight with Fierach, I talked to him in PMs rather cordially regarding the chains issue, and he maintained that what he was doing was totally fine, without budging, so I took it to the judge.

Then, when he had an issue, he PMed me basically saying "You can't do that, a*****e" and then called in the judge again, and the rest of the fight was him loldodging s**t at point-blank and interrupting dedicated actions to do stupid s**t.

Fair enough, I haven't read your fights enough to make much of a comment beyond the hypothetical.

Heita: Yelling "SURPRISE ********" with some secret strength you have is hardly better than hiding your weakness.

I could enter a totally unassuming character with certain strange powers, and when I finally pulled them out the same cries of bullshit would go off and they would be loldodged.

loldodging s**t

You know.

This isn't your fault but have you ever considered the fact that your opponents are going against flaming diseased axes?

I mean if they get hit, like full on, s**t is done.

The fight is over.

On that note, sorry I wasn't much more help in regards to the plot.

A mix of actual work and laziness.

Well, don't have any flames but yes, I'm aware that a full hit is basically game over, which is why I try to corner the opponent into being struck by it.

I got hit with a lethal KO attack out of the blue in my first fight, and I ate it without much hesitation, because it legitimately blindsided both me and the character.

Ah, it's cool. I'm just writing it as I go. It's not meant to be a primary thing. Just a side fun.

Well they will be pissed it it's something broken

but...

I have generally been successful using this strategy with Heita...

his like 5'9" 185lbs but fights like his 300lbs or so...been refining that aspect to get more of the desired effect too because his like Jin from MVC.

and so far everyone I have minus one has loved the character.

Where as Dramon who was like 400lbs or so in weight and fought like it and had naruto woo-woo powers with colossus durability was hated because one hit from him was fatal.

Heita I made to play with everyone else... his balanced to the game he is apart of.

Dramon was for commerce.
