Harvested Sorrow Hahaha...a bit...paranoid? Seems like you're very talented, that's good. We aren't all exactly gifted musicians...(well, I'm not, everyone else seems to be) I've heard alot about Finland and my mom has a friend from there, apparently it's a beautiful place. And I don't hold the stereotypes that others do. (Believe me...I know the feeling, I'm from Texas and it's AMAZING what s**t people will come up with about this state) Out of curiosity (standard test for people, being a metalhead myself) name a few metal bands that you like? Yup, maybe little xd I don't think myself as a talented person. Talented people seem to have no trouble playing extempore, whereas I rehearse until my fingers are numb and I still don't get it right >_< Metalbands.. Nightwish, of course and Rhapsody for some odd reason.. I've listened metal for just two years now, so I'm really just learning what bands are worth listening. So if you got some favorites, I'd be glad to hear smile

If you can play that many instruments you do have talent.
And....mwahahahahahaha, oh lord. I could reccomend the metal bands that I like, but it would be pointless, as most of them are alot different from what you're listening to.

Harvested Sorrow If you can play that many instruments you do have talent. No, I still don't think so. Anyone can start palying any instrument if they have time and motivation. And a good teacher. Oh, well. If you listen to black metal or sth like that then you're probably right. I have nothing against it but I just can't understand why someone wants to listen to it.. Hmm, this is getting a bit off-topic.. if you want to continue arguing just pm me.

It's an introduction topic and you're the first person to introduce yourself in a while, so it's no big deal.
And yeah...but if you can actually play all those instruments decently it makes a difference...some people (like me) can't learn many instruments, if ANY because we have no natural talent whatsoever.
Anyway, yes, most of what I listen to is black and death metal, although I also listen to some traditional metal and two power metal bands (Fireaxe and Slough Feg).
People listen to death metal and black metal for two reasons
1. It's quite simply the highest quality stuff in the whole genre (The GOOD stuff within those sub-genres)
2. The genres also happen to have the highest artistic value and the least elements of rock in them.
I realize these statements sound quite arrogant, so I can elaborate if you wish. xp

New member here, and thanks for the invite!
Introduction . . . well I start on a E major chord switching keys ambiguously until the exposition . . . oh, not that kind of introduction . . .
My name is Andrew, I'm 20 years old and currently attending college at the University of Texas in Austin asa geology major. I used to be able to play the piano and cello with certain proficiency but that skill has all but disappeared now. My musical interests and far and wide, but I still focus primarily on classical and in particular pre-Romantic and post-Romantic music (that is everything not from 1830-1880). When I started my interest in classical music, the Romantic era was my favorite, but after some time, I diversified my interests and found earlier and later styles more compatible. I still listen to some Romantic now and then, but that is no longer the bulk of my listening.
I still can't get into Serialism though.
I also am currently trying my hand in composition, although needless to say it is not going as well as I would like it to be. Inspired ideas but lousy execution, if you catch my drift.

Introduction, introduction ^^
Hey, my name's Kylie, I'm 18 years old and I live in Melbourne, Australia.
I can play 4 instruments, the keyboard, guitar, cello and xylomaphone. I hate playing the xylophone, so I stopped ^^ yay. I can play guitar well, but am no where near good enough. And in a direct quote from my cello teacher "I have never heard anyone manage to make a cello make such a noise as that before, and I hope I never meet anyone else who can." *cough* I was forced into playing the cello so I blame my horribleness on that xd . So of the 4 instruments I am able to play, I only play the keyboard well, because I love it.
I like all genres of music! My favourites are classical, rock and metal.
In 2 and a half weeks I am going to Japan as an exchange student for 10 months! I can't wait.
When I get back I will be doing an arts languages degree. I seem to have an uncanny knack for learning languages and have been learning Japanese for 6 years. Hopefully when I go to uni I'll be able to pick up German as well. I love learning about other countries, languages and cultures and plan on spending at least 2-3 years straight travelling once I have finished my degree, getting jobs as an english teacher ^^

Hello! My name is Liz and I live in Ireland. I play and teach the flute and I'm teaching myself the piano. I'm a J.S Bach nut and love pretty much anything Baroque. I also used to be in a group called the Capriol Consort that performed Renaissance music, played recorder, danced and sang in costume. Those dresses were heavy... It was loads of fun though, until our bass left and it all kinda fell apart. I'm currently taking a year off between school and college, and have been accepted to study music and english at Trinity College, Dublin. I also have discovered a growing fanatacism in my heart for Wagner's Nibelungelied, and believe in later life I will grow to be a serious Wagnerite. I went to see Siegfried in London recently and was absolutely enchanted. Then my theory professor loaned me his score of the first act (which was incredible, but utterly mindboggling) and I got to listen along with the score and try to make sense of his incredible chords and textures (not to mention trying to read in alto and tenor clefs at the same time, with transposing instruments). The stuff is just fascinating. And now I realise i've just been rambling about Wagner. Erm.... Anyway, Hello all and thank you for welcoming me into your guild!

Nyx408;
Hey! Welcome!
Surely you're not going to Melbourne University in Parkville?
*bow* You need an impressive enter for that course xd I've tossed up doing it someday. They have some cool subjects, I'd like to take Russian, French, Piano performance and Composition, but I think I might do a more specialized course in Paris.

Nada Naga Oh, well. If you listen to black metal or sth like that then you're probably right. I have nothing against it but I just can't understand why someone wants to listen to it.. I'm suprised someone from northern europe could say that, you all seem so cool with your black metal. I used to want to move up that way to fit in. I think black metal represents a certain emotion, a very important one. It is self reflective, and yet the music teaches us not to restrain that feeling. black metal is a kind of freedom...

Of course, it takes many forms...sometimes self reflective, sometimes angry....sometimes nationalistic. It also represents fighting for one's heritage of course (as shown by the church burnings and things like that) Have you heard Summoning? I think you'd like their work.

Heya all. smile
I'm Laura from Finland (I noticed a fellow Finn here already wink ), I'm 21 and currently living in Germany (for 2,5 weeks still, until moving back to Finland). I'm studying English, German and communication at the University of Helsinki and business at a polytechnic (or University of Applied Sciences, as they are called now). I'm just about to finish my Bachelor's Degree at the Uni, and in September I'll be moving to Hong Kong to continue my business studies there.
As for music, I play piano/synth and guitar, and I'm self-learned. I would like to learn to sing (soprano), have sung in choirs and like to practice a lot at home, singing to all kinds of songs. When it comes to instruments, I would like to learn to play violin (definitely) and oboe (I love the sound of oboe) and flute (not sure which kind, but just in general).
I enjoy listening to almost all kind of music, from classical to metal. Composers I like include Grieg, Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and Vivaldi among others. At the moment my favourite group is Pain of Salvation (progressive metal).

Hi!
I'm Kals. I'm 25 (yeah I feel ancient) and I live in Edmonton, Alberta (that's in Canada, for those who wondered). I'm in the middle of my B.Mus in voice. My absolute passion is choral music. I plan to conduct one day, but for now, I sing alto in two choirs. I'm actually a mezzo-soprano, but that's where they needed the strong voice, so that's where I went. I've been known to sing tenor, too. My musical taste is varied, but I am particularly fond of russian and ukrainian choral music, and music played by string quartets. Sergei Rachmaninov is my hero heart
I used to play flute, but I haven't toched it in so ,long that if I tried now, I'd probably have the worst facial cramps anyone has ever heard of. I can sight read just about anything on the piano... in slow motion... but I can't play most things anywhere near up to speed. I also like to fool around on the guitar, but I'm not foolish to call what I do playing. haha.
Looking forward to getitng to know you all smile

I'm Linzie, and I'm 16 and have been playing the viola since I was 9. I am also, ever-so-slowly, teaching myself how the play the guitar out of books. I play in my school orchestra as well as our side chamber music group. I love to play Baroque and Classical more than I do to listen to it. Anything from Russia I'm almost sure to adore. You'll find me complaining about my instrument being given the harmony 99.9% of the time and how everyone thinks I'm a violinist, and how I have to explain what a viola is.
Other than music, I love science and am good at algebra (generally) and plan to become a biochemist, or a vet... haven't decided yet. I also do a little creative writing but it's not very good or complex. I'm a perfectionist too, by the way.
