Carter Kuromizu18 | Female | Half-ElfNemesis~Alice Nine====================================== Carter stared at Niraya but acted like a shy child around the people she felt she had unintentionally offended. She stayed slightly behind Niraya as to try and not be put into the limelight. Her senses were working one hundred percent over what they would normally work as. Carter flinched as she tried to contain the discomfort. Carter flinched again. She thought to herself and realized maybe it was a bad idea to have become a knight to a mage. She shook her head. No. this was what she wanted. No regrets. Her mother had always said that. Now, how was she to become capable of keeping herself in check? She felt minimal control over her own skills, sensing that her agility was far over her normal agility. She was pretty much wasting mana. ========================================= (OOC: )

At the seller's slow reply of having no previous encounters with his order, Zeal had a lackluster reaction. "Hm" he muttered, not seeming upset or disappointed in her answer. There wasn't even rejoice, simply a calculation in his head. "I sense... no misfortune from this." was his first reply as he looked back up at her eyes. It was uncertain whether he was talking to himself, about his order, or if he was reassuring her in some weird way of his. In the pause thereafter, the two beside him came back for another bit of small-talk, but this time with a question. A mage and knight duo? Zeal thought to himself, slowly turning his head again to peer at them. It seemed the one with the tail had all the bravery here. After taking in a breath Zeal said "I regret to tell you that I come from a place where no duo is allowed. Only recently have I travelled elsewhere and... for understandable reasons I've not had the luck of meeting such a pair personally." Zeal thought of his appearance and speciality. For one, he was albino, usually distinguished as fearsome, or simply 'odd.' And after that he carried around a scythe and studied bones. People and their superstitions. I don't raise the dead. I wake it up. He could have exhaled cheaply through his nostrils at the thought.
Zeal couldn't help but have mixed thoughts. These two were looking for a pair to teach them, which he was searching for a mage to pair with.

Come over here and let me tell you something Nothing ever comes of nothing We pay a price for all our choices made
Quela felt some relief, but only when the conversation seemed to turn its focus away from her. She felt herself begin to breathe again, though she found herself wondering why it might have been important for her to know if such an order had approached her. If they had, she wouldn't have known them, as her customers rarely shared their names with her unless they saw her more than three times. Even then, interactions were simple and fairly straightforward.
However, yes, the two young women returned again, but brought with them a question and an explanation of why they were asking what they are. Perhaps this also helped to motivate the question of whether this shopkeeper was human. She wasn't offended by it, no, but she was still scared about the possibility of being found out.
There were not many instances when knowledge of what she was encouraged friendship or understanding in others. From the memories that still flashed across her mind of angry men and weapons, to the sound of gunfire, and even the moments when tension and fear was tangible and almost enough for her to taste from those around her, what she was simply invited fear. The fear of others could easily accompany pain.
... Besides, she thought to herself as her eyes drifted to her table and the silken products that remained. A few shirts, only two scarves left, a few pairs of gloves of average size. This was what she was good at. It was work she could do out of sight, and where most did not feel concern or fear about their origin in this magical world. She looked different and raised suspicion despite her best efforts to appear human and to hide.
She was pale. Albino. Weak. Small. Terrifying to look at. Tolerated by the others. She could not see far enough to be useful. Mage and Knights often went out and did great and wonderful things. They went out to fight, to protect and better this world. They were strong. No warrior or knight would find any honor in wanting to be paired with a shopkeeper who was too shy to stay in the light any longer than absolutely necessary. Yes, the human was beautiful. But she was still different. It was attention.
No, it was better to hide and to have people question her humanity instead. Though she had skill, she was not a warrior. What knight would want to be attached to her? It would be easy to leave her, but even then, what could she offer? She could barely tolerate crowds and people. She was terrified of the things she didn't know and couldn't control. At the end of the day, she was arachne. A spider. A monster who was allowed because she looked human.
Her shoulders sunk slightly. She tried to distract herself by organizing her table again. No, she couldn't help, because there wouldn't have been a knight that wanted to be paired with her, even if she was brave enough to do more. All this aside, of course, she was useless to a new knighted pair who wanted to learn more about their bond.
"I have some skill in magic," she admitted softly, barely above a whisper in her words. She almost hoped that she wouldn't be heard. "But there is no knight."
Come along now and take my hand I'll lead you to a promised land The morning after it may never come again

Carter Kuromizu18 | Female | Half-ElfNemesis~Alice Nine====================================== She sighed and turned to go. With a whoosh of air, she leapt from the ground, over the stall and alighted on the roof. Carter sat on the edge of the roof and waited for Niraya. She looked up at the sky and just stared out at it, watching clouds roll by. She gave a huff in frustration. The wind calmed her. ========================================= (OOC: )

Zeal had waited patiently, not really feeling any guilt for knowing nothing about being able to hone this pair's bond. Even if he had felt guilt, he wouldn't have had any experience to share. Quela also stated having magical power, but ever so softly said something else. If it were not for Zeal's childhood in the catacombs and dank woods, he wouldn't have heard her. He couldn't help but pass back a glance towards her, his lips almost parting, but it was hard to tell his movements were always so subtle. Niraya asked them one last question, hoping that they might hold some information that could guide them. "I know no one" Zeal said without a moment to think, "as I said, I've not spoken to a soul in days." That could be more literal than he intended... he waited for Niraya to make her next move before finally turning back to Quela. He wondered if she had wondered about pairing with a Knight herself. Zeal knew he had wanted to pair with a Mage for as long as he can remember. But back when he was with the Order, it was a taboo, it wasn't really something he gave serious consideration, it was never meant to be. But now he was alone, and there were no rules. Ever since the moment it was all he could think about, to restore the balance of the world with the help of another. A mage, two parts of one coin, always turning, never stopping. But always, he faced the question. Would anyone want to pair with him?
"How much for a pair of gloves?" Zeal then asked, giving her a blank stare. "And could I get them dyed like this? Mine have been... through the wars? I have heard that expression since The Moment, several times." Zeal turned his hands over to show her how worn his had become, probably from climbing, or gripping his scythe so much? The latter was correct, his people were all but wiped out, and if anything... The Moment saved him. If not for that world-shaking event, the enemy could have thrown him to the afterlife.

Unfortunately, there was little Quela felt qualified to offer to help the two find a paired knight and mage. But, the best she could offer was what she suggested. She heard tell of a school... the knowedgable people could point them in the direction of those with experience and who could teach.
Gloves? Her eyes flit up again. "The price will vary depending on whether or not one desires a spell to be woven into it."
She leaned closer and gently touched the back of his hands to study his gloves. Yes, it wasn't hard to see the duress and wear these gloves had taken. The stitches were strained, there were threadbare patches, the pattern was exceedingly simple. These were far from ceremonial in nature.
Dyed gloves like this... would take a day or two... Her fingers drifted over his palm and fingers, taking note of measurements. "How would you intend to pay, sir?"

Carter Kuromizu18 | Female | Half-ElfNemesis~Alice Nine====================================== Carter set her head against Niraya's arm. She stayed quiet for a bit longer. The air was thin and slightly tinged with smog. This caused Carter to scrunch up her nose before pulling the handkerchief over her face. "I'm not sure where to go... She mentioned something about a school but that's all I picked up from our conversation. That lady was hiding something but it had nothing to do with mages and knights. It was like... I could sense some sort of trick of the eye."She shook her head before leaning it back against Niraya's arm. Carter felt like they were both just newborn pups trying to figure things out. The thought made her giggle for a moment. Her mood changed to a more light mood. "Maybe we should try to find this school."========================================= (OOC: )

Carter Kuromizu18 | Female | Half-ElfNemesis~Alice Nine====================================== Carter looked up at Niraya without removing her head from her arm. She smirked before returning to look at the sky. "Well, we could just keep doing Robin Hood type stuff until we figure it out." She offered. Carter was only half joking when she said that. The other half of her was being completely serious. ========================================= (OOC: )

"Hm..." Zeal let out quietly, his lips pursed shut, the sound escaping his throat. He watched as the lady moved closer to inspect his gloves, worn down and thin. She seemed to take a great interest... no, she inspected with all her skill, that was the right way of putting it. As her fingers moved over his palm she asked how he intended to pay. Zeal took in a breath, his mind drifted back to when he vacated his homeland. In the last moments of its existence he dragged himself through collapsed corridors, over decimated, stone coffins, and deep into the tombs of the dead. There he raised their corpses, ancient bodies that they had studied, others that his Order revered. He took what silver coinage they had, there was never any gold, but there were gems. "I have silver" he said, "or some gems. Cut ruby, mostly twilight, but I do have some red. Forgive me... I know not the worth of my inventory."
As he stood he kept deathly still, not even in a tremble in his hands as she inspected them. His eyes lay upon her still, almost vacant, but with a flicker of interest. "Do you know how to imbue self-repair?"

Silver coins and gemstones? Quela was no appraiser, and she doubted her ability to tell one kind of gemstone from another, or to tell a false one from the genuine article. Silver, however, she might be able to persuade some to trade. Silver had favorable properties to it, if she remembered what her mother said on the topic.
"I can, yes." she acknowledged as she turned his dominant hand over and pressed her hand flat against it, again, for the purpose of measurement and comparison. After her silent notes, she withdrew from him and folded her hands in front of herself.
"A pair of self-mending gloves will take about five days to craft. I can return to this place in a week." She began to explain. "I normally charge around forty dollars or 4500 yen for enchanted silk gloves... Perhaps about five silver pieces?"

Zeal let the woman turn his hand over, placing her own over the top as if to compare for size. She was awfully thorough in her measurements, and to do all this in her head too. It was meticulous and marvellous. Afterwards put her hands together, putting herself in a posture that meant she was done. A week... Zeal thought, his eyes seemingly pondering the thought as he looked to the floor. "Five" Zeal repeated, then fumbling around within a pouch that hung by his side. The sound of coin and gems could be heard rattling until he pulled out a handful. As he opened his fingers he revealed exactly five silver pieces, round and flat, polished without a fault. They were ceremonial without a doubt. "These should suffice then" Zeal said, extending his arm over to the lady, offering the silver pieces.
He wondered how often she actually came to this spot, whether she would actually return like she said, or if she would forget. Worse than that, would she take his wealth and run? There was still something here that seemed out of place, he didn't know or really care what, but there was certainly something giving her a nervous disposition at times. But then... that would be normal for someone like herself, like him.
((Where would you like to go from here? Time skip? Or do you have other plans ^_^ ))
