Footsteps behind her drew ever closer... she hadn't much time. It was technically a tourist attraction, after all, even if it was early in the morning. She held the handbag closely, as if attempting to comfort herself in some fashion. She bowed from the waist, still holding it in her hands. The language she spoke didn't matter. They were words meant for ears that hadn't been flesh in ages. "Thank you... thank you so much. I say it every time I'm here, but..." The breathless quality of her words certainly didn't reflect a practiced enunciation. "I don't think I can ever thank you enough, really." She resumed a standing position. "I still regret being unable to follow you, but... you wouldn't have liked that, would you~" There was an odd tone to her voice, as if she expected to be scolded or had been scolded for something similar previously. "I still can't promise that I can fulfill your wish, but..." She seemed oddly exasperated, for talking to the dead. "I'm... I'm trying. You didn't give me a choice, you know? Willing such a ridiculous thing..." A sigh indicated she had accepted it, whatever it was. "Why did you think someone such as myself deserves to be happy, anyway." Somehow she was able to put on a brave face, to be able to see the silent recipient of her words off with her best smile. "I always look forward to coming here... I mean, to the last part of you that remains in this world. The proof that you existed... though that's everywhere now, isn't it? I'm glad..." One last bow and comment before the encroaching footsteps arrived. "Thank you, Master, from the bottom of my heart. I'll come again. No matter what." Her body felt further weakened as she stumbled off, and she found herself wishing she had a hand to hold to keep her steady. That certain heaviness in her heart was gone, however, for at least another year.
She couldn't help but reminisce a little as she made her way back through the grounds. "He found me, as a child... a one-eyed boy finding a one-eyed abomination trapped in the ground." Her laugh was soft but no less amused. "Truly pitiful, the two of us." She stretched her arms above her head with a quiet yawn. "...He would've liked you. He would've laughed at you, but he laughed at me too, so..." She puffed out her face in annoyance for a moment, only to end up laughing a moment later. "Ah well."
Back in the car she mulled over just what to do about her energy situation. "I could cook for myself, but~" Not only was she weak but she was lazy. And it seemed like a waste of effort to try to impress an eyeball when presumably she couldn't feed it anyway. The signs of the many food stands in the market drew her eye in incredibly well. "Passing up all the local delicacies just..." More and more flashed by and why wasn't the car stopping yet? She was flailing by that point. Abruptly it stopped at last and she didn't hesitate to free herself from the car to gather foodstuffs. A little of this, a little of that. She was glad she had been elsewhere in the country recently and still had a fair amount of cash leftover. She was almost finished when something she hadn't considered caught her eye and drew her in instantly. Oh, yes. It would be perfect. She was practically humming with mischief when she went inside the shop. "I want... well. That one. Yes!" The humming had altered some as she brought her purchases back to the car, indicating she was quite pleased with herself.

Somehow he didn't feel right listening in. Sure, she probably knew that he could hear every word, and had been invited to come along in the first place, but it felt awfully private, this meeting between her and... Well, he couldn't exactly see who it was. Someone of utmost importance to her, judging from her tone. And maybe someone she missed very dearly. Friendly though, by the way she described him, but he was way too enmeshed in the mentality that nobody of their right mind would be liking something (yes, thing) like him. Years of isolation and self-blame was still the only thing holding him back from recovery. Like there even was recovery at this point. The research papers scattered all across the table showed no signs of any potential cure for the 'damned condition'.
Then there was that dissonance he felt. Second time in his life, making everything he was seeing in his head seem all the more image-like and unreal, he could just put a hand out and realize that he was just imagining things after all. Ah, he was probably due for an appointment with the diagnostician again. He was going to get snark for it, he knew. And before he could float off anywhere else, he got rudely yanked back down to earth by his roommate using a suplex on him by surprise, crashing his head onto the bed. Well, best he lost that train of thought anyway, it was not going to do him much good.
Wrestling himself from that metal-armed grip and complaining about having to sterilize the bedsheets the third time in the week, he hoped that the fluffy-haired android would not ask about the eyepatch. Oop, too late, he noticed. And nope, he was not exactly pleased with it. But... strange? He got left alone this time. He expected a lecture late into the night from that motormouth on how he should be checking to make sure not a single trace of him was left anywhere, but got nothing other than a quiet stare and a slow wheeling out the door. Something was wrong with that guy.
Before he could dwell on that, he heard something about food. Oh, food! Speaking of which he completely forgot to make anything remotely resembling a tongue or a digestive system. Well, the can did not exactly have the insulation tumbler's space he was used to. But food! And what did she bring in? If it was edible, then what a pity he could only feast his eye on it... He should save those jokes for the patients with high fevers, it'll bring their temperature right down.
A low tapping came from inside the can, which was his best way of expressing his curiosity.

(( Challenging post to follow! I like that, though; I never feel challenged. XD Takes me a little longer to process though, sorry about that~ ))
Keyed in on anything happening in or around the handbag she was involuntarily protecting with a quiet ferocity, the bit of movement and sound didn't escape her. She opened the handbag with some concern. "Everything all right? Hopefully my stumbling wasn't too much for you." She did look a little weak as she smiled down with her usual enthusiasm. "I got a lot of different things! Sendai is well-known for many delicious things, beef and oysters especially~" Of course there was a possibility that he didn't like meat, but there were plenty of other things and much to her disappointment none of it really mattered at the moment. "Ah~ It's really too bad that I can't share all of this with you. Because, well, I would." Probably an odd thing to say with any bit of vulnerability, but she did. Really not that out of the ordinary to share food, but for a creature as greedy as herself, perhaps. "Oh, and some local sake too. I won't drink too much! It's just... it's really good..." Though her mind seemed to be set on her decision. "I mean, we'll be meeting tomorrow won't we? Provided you want this back as soon as possible. I'm already going to look incredibly tired... can't show up with a sloppy face, too." Alcohol or affection. Priorities. Some careful planning and she'd get (or in the case of the latter, give) both!
Upon arrival she hauled everything back up to the apartment with unsteady limbs. A few things were carefully put away but for the most part the food became a disorganized spread upon the low table. The can had been placed on the table as well, a distance from the food but close enough to see and be seen. She leaned in on an arm with a tired sigh. "I'm not sure where to start, really!" She couldn't help but laugh. "I will, though, I will~" For a while she was quiet, looking off into the distance as she ate. "I still would've liked to bring you along, but..." Surprisingly her face meeting the surface of the table didn't do much to disturb it. "Is it strange that I still feel a sense of closeness, with this." She reached out and touched her fingertips to the can, face still adhered to the table. Those fingers were grasping for alcohol soon after. "Definitely strange." A drink, and a sigh. "But..." Her smile almost looked dreamy. "Definitely nice." The feeling seemed to make her a bit nervous though, her eye bright as she fidgeted with her drink. "Though I really..." There was a hesitant amount of tenderness in her expression. "I really hope you weren't too inconvenienced, by this."

"...."
The lack of any further reaction probably meant he was fine. Fine being defined by mentally comparing his own cooking with the food he could see out of the can, and weirdly by sight alone, his own food tasted pretty bland. Ah, must be jealousy. But then he hardly ever ate outside, so when presented with all that food he had to down his soup as fast as possible to quit wishing it was something else. Sure, he got weird looks from the little girl sitting beside him eating her own dinner, but it was better than the alternative of dozing off at the table.
The eye rocked in its half-lidded socket, as if it was a head shaking itself in exasperation. Oh, he was going to get the hangover medicine for her arrival tomorrow if she was going to drink that much. Not that it was out of the way, just a quick trip to the pharmacy and out again. Convenient enough for a person with double vision and a foot full of stubbed toes to get to. But it could wait till tomorrow, he was already at home after his shift, and going out at night would cause unwanted curiosity. Oh well. He trusted her to not somehow lose his eye in her stupor, of course. Looking for it while trying to figure out what he was looking at was hard to pull off without too many banged foreheads and smashed feet.

"Even so~" She was sprawled out by that point, back arched on the floor. A little tipsy perhaps, but mostly just enjoying the relaxed moment for what it was. It'd been a rough couple of months, after all. "I only want to ask you, you know?" Well, maybe he didn't know. "Whether it's something insignificant like dances, or something of importance like this... it just won't do, if it's not you." Having that mindset was one thing, but admitting it out loud was another. "I mean, if what I want to do makes you unhappy, I wouldn't want to force you, but it is, it really is more fun if you're there, and I... really want to make you happy, even if just a little, if that's possible..." Backpedaling just seemed to make it worse. Too bad the table was too low to hide under.
"Ah, it got late." Simple enough to escape her self-imposed awkwardness, in that way. "Have to clean all this up, hnn~" And off she went, seemingly unconcerned with what she had just said. The alcohol probably helped that feline-like skill of distancing herself from things with quickness along nicely. Once the task was finished, back went the can to the bedside table, complete with a tiny redhead sitting on the bed next to it. "It was nice, right? Well. I'm not used to being so awake for this, and I couldn't say how used to your situation you are, so..." A thoughtful look quickly turned to mischief. "Want to come next year?" The amount of things that could change in a year was probably pretty staggering. "Eheh~ Just putting it out there. At the very least, you won't be able to say that you had no warning~"
"Aaa~" She kicked her heels into the side of the bed with an impatient sigh. "So begins the long trip back in the morning. And some time to rest, before that..." A thought occurred, accompanied by a clever smile. Looking quite pleased with herself, she took off her jacket and used it to gingerly cover up the can. "You probably shouldn't be seeing me change. Not at this point, anyway~" The fact that she was flirting with the can wasn't so strange as the fact that it had taken her that long to do so. By the time the jacket was removed, the lights were out and she was in bed. She picked up the can once more, a look of delight playing across her face as she smiled down upon it. She didn't linger, however, replacing it on the table and quickly burying herself in the bed in a way that almost seemed giddy. "Goodnight, Eru."

Perhaps, he wanted to tell her, if he even managed to make it that long without any major mishaps or having to move off somewhere, then maybe. Even then it was a very far-fetched maybe, for a few months (was it even a few months? More than that?) was already enough to turn his (life?) upside down three times over.
But oh dear - looks like long distance communication isn't enough to completely sever any involuntary reactions. Condensation had already appeared on the sides of the can, good thing the lights were out since he hoped she missed that too, and it mirrored his blushing face. Sure, he told himself all he wanted that it was just the cold, frostbitten cheeks begone, tell himself that all day.
So tomorrow, right. He stuck a reminder post-it to the door of the fridge, the can giving one last hop and settling down for the night, and slid the eyepatch back over the empty socket. And forgot to watch for the fridge door. Bang. Sounds of a shuffling came from the bedroom, and out popped a sleepy little girl to see what's the matter. After a good bout of assuring her he was just after a snack he ushered her off to bed.
Oh, and a cup of coffee to last until Amarante's plane touched down, then. Never mind trying to sleep with the odd timings, besides, it was not like his colleagues noticed, they all thought he was a vampire of sorts anyway. A couple of shades darker in eyebags would not hurt much.

The rain had set in the next morning. She watched it with some concern as she prepared to set out, though it was far too quiet and light to really pose as an obstacle to her plans. "Do you like the rain, I wonder~?" Thinking out loud, as per usual, though deliberately so, with her usual lilting voice. "Heh. I don't mind it, so much." Which of course led into her usual devilry. "I mean~ You know what they say, about two people sharing an umbrella~" Maybe it didn't count if it was an eyeball, or perhaps because it was an eyeball was the reason the statement was followed with a laugh. "Though in this case you don't have much of a choice, do you?" A shrug. "Fear not! I shall be your ever courteous courtier, as always~ Until, that is... well." She hovered over the can with an impish grin. "Should you want more of me, really more, you wouldn't even really have to ask if you didn't want to. Just act. Okay?" The usual declarations and rakish behavior. She was definitely feeling better.
Luckily for him, she managed to stay focused upon the task at hand. "Ah, I almost forgot. What a tragedy that would be, hnn~" Once she'd fetched a bag that was separate from her luggage, after a quick overlook she seemed satisfied with the state of her packing. "Now all that remains is you." She looked at the can for a moment thoughtfully as she picked it up. "What do you think, have I been a good owner to you? Other than you know, the whole issue of not feeding you..." Someone was having a little too much fun in the morning. "I can make it up to you, if you like. I can make all sorts of delicious things~" She carefully tucked the can into the handbag once more, humming dulcet tones to herself as she gathered her things and picked up a wagasa on her way out.
The flight back was mostly uneventful, other than assuring with certainty and perhaps some gentle threatening that the bag she had in addition to her luggage was to absolutely be kept refrigerated. Once that was made perfectly clear with a sharp but sweet smile, she returned to her seat to sit quietly with her handbag. Mostly. There might have been some quiet humming, and a few conversations with other passengers as they passed by over the hours, but not nearly as many as previously. She probably should have moved more during that span, as upon landing she made a small sound of pain when trying to stand and finding her muscles were pretty set in their soreness from sitting for so long. No matter. She shrugged it off, a subtle content sway visible in her walk as she made her way to retrieve her things and make the short trip to the cafe. "Soon, soon~"

Yes, he was aware that he probably was being followed. But try as he might, he could not place who it is that was tailing him. Then again, why was he paranoid? It was not like he was setting out to sap some unfortunate person's health and snuff out his life afterwards. Not today, at least. Today was not a good day to be getting his hands dirty, that was not a very sanitary thing to do before handling people or your own organs.
He was there at the cafe in the same hour that he woke up - shift not due until late afternoon that day - and had asked for a cup of hot, sweet coffee, his order sounding a lot more rushed than the last time he came in here. After taking his cup and leaving his payment on the counter he made a beeline for the back of the back of the cafe, in a seat that had a relatively unobstructed view of all the windows. Fear was creeping onto his shoulder.
Oh, was that - oh yes! It's Amarante, just in time. Maybe he was just that, just paranoid. Sighing in relief, he waved her over, completely dropping his guard from anyone's eye who was watching, and a pair of long white ears just peeking out from the furthest window.
"So, how did the trip... I mean. Um."
Smooth, really smooth. Asking someone how their trip was when you've pretty much seen everything they had while bringing you around was a nope. Great, so early in the day and already he had messed up.
"... Ahem. Um, welcome back, Ama."
That might be a bit better, if he didn't sound so excruciatingly formal, as usual.

The sparkle in that falsely grey eye surely meant trouble. Had she gone with her instinct, she would have dropped everything just to be able to run over and hold him close. But, she was being responsible. Well-behaved! Mostly. It seemed to still be a struggle as she took a deep breath and walked somewhat awkwardly over to where he was seated. Far less conspicuous than what she wanted to do but definitely odd to see if one happened to look. It must've taken a lot out of her, as she sat down with an almost winded sigh... only to be energized once more. He'd welcomed her back and said her name, after all. "I'm so glad to see you~ Ah, you look so tired. Are you all right?" Without realizing she'd reached out to touch his face simply out of concern, but stopped just short of doing so once she was cognizant of the movement. No need to add additional stress to the situation. Or have to end up talking to that other guy, amiable as he seemed. She seemed unbothered by the whole of it, smiling sweetly as she withdrew her hand.
She didn't hesitate upon the crucial point of the meeting, however. "Did you just want me to give it back, or... ?" Some hesitation was understandable. The level of discretion necessary for such a situation was definitely something she wasn't familiar with. "Ah, I'm going to look like I'm bringing outside beverages to my own cafe~" Which she seemed to find more amusing than anything else. "Ha! So be it. You're a dangerous man, you know, making me break my own rules." Cue the usual grinning.
But being the mercurial creature that she was, she was also having trouble with waiting on bringing up a point of her own. One both mischievously bought and preciously brought all the way back. So finally, she just burst out with it. "I brought you something!" She took something out of the bag and pushed it across the table at him. It was a cake box. A little oversized for one person, but she had intended it all for him anyway. Inside was a chocolate ganache cake, decorated with powdered sugar and chocolate shavings. "I wasn't sure what you'd like, so... I went for something chocolate. And expensive!" Typical child-like logic, but applied with earnest sweetness. "And well. A cake with fruit wouldn't have kept as well... and as much as I like wagashi I'm not sure they'd be sweet enough for you..." Someone had a lot of thoughts about confections. "Well. I hope you like it, anyway~" A quiet and simple gesture compared to her usual sweeping proclamations, but she still looked to be quite pleased with it.

Cold. Her hand was so warm against his face. Before his head froze up again he quickly nodded, trying to assure her that he was fine. Insomnia was not a very problematic thing to him, if anything it was useful but impractical.
"I thought you were so eager to keep it safe? I expected to have to tempt you with something else in exchange."
No no no, don't smile, don't smile! He can crack jokes, but no smiling! Don't want to scare away all the patrons no - what.
A present?
Cake! But a present... And the cake's big, that was going to be a bit of a problem to hide in the fridge. But cake! Even if he had been watching her nearly the entire time during her trip, how did he miss a cake?! He was speechless for a moment, then quickly recovered. Right.
"U-Um... Thank you, Ama! That was v-very thoughtful of you. A-And... um..."
Yeah, said the wrong things. His face was turning red again.
"... Would you want to share? But I'm not sure if the same 'no outside food' applies to the owner as well, so... um..."
Though, it seems that the chocolate has attracted an unwanted guest. A small white rabbit hops up onto the window and watches the cake curiously, a strange metal sphere in its hands. As quickly as it had appeared, it hopped off the sill and disappeared.

The sudden ease of mood surprised her a little. And pleased her, it seemed, if the sudden flush of her face was any indication. "That'd be a fine way to reward your trust, wouldn't it? Holding your body parts hostage~" Couldn't help but be a bit coy. And it brought a question to mind that seemed more philosophical than anything else but... perhaps not. "Unless there were some reason you'd want me to protect you from yourself. Then I might manage." A satisfied smile soon fell into a sheepish one. "Besides~ I'm not really in a position to be making demands of you, being that I still owe you for that stupid wager I made..." Maybe it would serve as a good reminder that she was still pretty incapable of fighting him while in her usual persona. Even against that more deadly nature he seemed to have that she'd seen once, and attacking with her own ancient and predatory instincts... there was still a possibility of loss. One embrace was all it would take, even if tore her to pieces.
His adorable expression was enough to break her from her visions of romantic violence. That and being thanked, especially by him. "So you like it? I'm glad~" One would think her face would start to hurt from so many honest smiles. "Ah, but it was intended for only you! All of it~" Giving away and unwilling to take chocolate. Someone was indeed smitten. "Unless you cannot finish it yourself, and cannot take it home... then perhaps I shall acquiesce. And~" Her smile deepened in her amusement. "That's a little different. I don't make a living making cakes, after all." She was far too preoccupied in her single-mindedness to really notice anything but him at that moment. The contrast changing within her peripheral vision due to a brief blur of white might've caused her to turn her head for a moment, but she didn't notice what it was and thought nothing of it.

What wager? Hmm... He had probably forgotten. Hopefully it was not anything too important. He could remember if he owed anyone anything but the opposite? Might as well be looking for a needle in a box of scalpels. Same goes for his own vision, anything beyond his immediate arm-range was pretty much unnoticed with the other eye still in the can.
"... I'm kind of worried that if I bring it home, someone else would either throw it out or eat it all without my knowledge. So, why not?"
He gets up and takes two pairs of fork and spoon from the counter, then returns and hands one to her. Someone was learning how to be sociable, hooray!

"That... that will never do!" Throw it away? How barbarous! Her appalled expression quickly melted away upon receiving the flatware from him. "Should we cut it, or~?" Didn't really matter, but she was showing excellent manners considering chocolate was involved.
Ever the talkative one, there was something she couldn't help but comment upon. "So, how has the monocular life treated you? Pretty poorly, or simply unwell?" She had to have a sense of humor about her situation. "Glasses seem to help. Well... they make me feel better anyway, sometimes, despite the strange looks." People were oddly suspicious of an eyepatch and glasses combination for whatever reason. "Still not a situation I'd wish upon anyone else, however." Her smile might've been a little wistful just then, but not for more than a moment's time.

He looks at her, then looks at his fork, then the cake, then his gloves. Well, that's one con about having to keep insulated all the time! No can do about unhygienic handling of food, and this was a public place anyway, he should not be doing that. And he had lacked the foresight to take a knife, too. Such an idiot, have to make an extra trip back to the counter just to get a knife.
"... I think this should suffice?"
He had absolutely no intention of taking the gloves off. Worst case scenario was that he touched something other than the utensil or the cake with them, or accidentally touched her. Because he had rushed out of the house earlier on he had also completely forgotten to take a bottle of emergency antiseptic with him. He should be more careful, he knew, but why the rush and carelessness? Hmm... Anyway. He took the cake out from the box - oh wow, it looks really pretty! - and cut an extra big slice for her.
"Nothing much, just the same as usual," he mutters, trying to continue the conversation. "Just a few laughs here and there about not taking care of myself better."
Of course, he neglected to tell her that sudden bout of concerned lecturing a certain co-worker dragged him aside for, and also the million and one stubbed toes he had to suffer, and his reading glasses falling off every time he had to look down to get a book from the shelf. And that there was one eye-bandage-glasses combo in the house already, too.

She probably should've been helping instead of feeling sorry for herself and endlessly adoring him. "...Sorry. Did you need anything else? Plates, cake server? Or anything else you might need, even if it's unrelated to cake." Probably didn't help the awkwardness too much, but at least there was an attempt to be helpful instead of the usual overblown heroics.
"Hnn~" What she expected to get out of studying his face, she couldn't say. Pointless to try to get any further meaning out of his words, probably. "Nothing too terrible, then?" She was curious, but still didn't want to pry too much. "Hopefully my trip wasn't too boring for you. There are definitely more fun places to go, but... didn't go for any sort of 'fun' reason, really." The look in her eye was distant for a moment, but she didn't dwell upon it. "Roppongi is much more fun. I'm not sure you'd like it though. Pretty busy, lots of people~" She was starting to ramble again. There might have been the slightest fear of boring or annoying him, but... the possibility of him wanting to talk more was worth the risk.
