Aodhan had to chuckle at her explanation of what "special" meant. He nodded, still smiling softly. "Yes. Rest assured Ruria, despite what you may think, it seems you've got a bit of "normal" in you." He teased, gently tapping her nose playfully. "I've thought about you as well...well...I've thought about you a lot..."

Aodhan didn't really have a chance to continue this train of thought. He heard the other approaching, and saw the man. He was another knight, a good man, and a good fighter. Aodhan watched, not moving back from Ruria as he felt her little fingers pull at the hem of his shirt.

He watched the other Knight silently, all the romance and nerves drained from his face as he stared at the other, analyzing each move, each reaction.

He'd turned his gaze when he listened to Ruria speak about what she'd done, and what was her duty. It was astounding how different she could be when she was with just him, and when someone else was around. She was...dare say...almost turtle-like, reverting back into a shell of protection when something else was around she didn't quite like.

"We do nothing. As she said. It's her duty to eradicate majin who've taken a heart, and those who have aided them. We clean up, inform the families, and we move on. I'm sure her commanding officer will handle the fact that there were regular witches involved." Aodhan wasn't really sure if that was the case, but that's how he was going to stick it to the other knight.

Aodhan still felt those hands on the hem of his shirt, knowing full well the other would see. Would the other knight take his word? Move on and go to file a clean up? Would this be over and done with? Aodhan hoped so. Clean up and paperwork was much easier than having to lose the girl he'd just finally got...

He didn't get girls often...he certainly didn't want to lose one. Especially this one.

The knight regarded Aodhan, a look of battled confusion on his face. It seemed he, too, didn't know what to do. Indeed, he did note the girl's hand clutching at Aodhan's shirt, but he said nothing. "W-well... I'll go..report this, since you're off-duty. Probably should get her looked at, she looks pretty banged up."

A small breath of a sigh left Ruria as the other knight disappeared, half-expecting him to subjugate her to punishment. It was a well-known fact among blackhearts that the knights hated their interference, especially in their own territory.

A sudden weight pressed into Aodhan as Ruria began to slump forward into him, gripping his arm as a means to stay up. "I'm sorry," she murmured. "I just need to rest, and I'll be fine. This isn't exactly how I planned to come see you." Her blackheart instinct told her that now was a good time to flee - - Get well away from Lumena, get somewhere safe, recover, return to Poena Privus -- but she couldn't will herself to do it. Now that she had seen Aodhan again, she absolutely did not want to leave.

She shifted her gaze back to his face, unnaturally shy as she asked: "W-would I be...a bother, if I could rest at your place and clean up? I worry someone might mistake me for a rare steak covered in this mess."

She blushed under the streaks and smears of blood, even now, as she looked at him, at his lips. She had never kissed someone before on her own, and it had been a deed she didn't realize she had done until after their lips met. It was something she wanted to do again, or feel him press into her -- gods, what were these embarrassing thoughts filling her mind to the brim!

Aodhan watched the other knight with calculating eyes. He was sure the other didn't like what was going on, but given Aodhan's high rank, the other had to let it go. His blue gaze trailed after the other, watching him leave around a corner before his attention came back to Ruria.

He felt her press into him. His expression softened as he supported her weight against him. She must have been exhausted. She'd taken on so many all by herself. She's so much stronger than anyone I've ever met...'

"Of course. I've got a hot tub with jets and it bubbles!" He was probably a bit too excited explaining this to her. For all his seriousness at times, Aodhan was certainly a child, ruled by emotion, thus fluctuating into a plethora of expressions and behaviors. "I mean...it'd be a good way for you to relax after tonight."

He offered her his arm, hooking hers into his and led her into the darkness of the streets, only lit by the gas lights that dotted the walkways here and there. "I'm not too far from here. I heard someone scream. That's why I came to see what was going on. When I saw you...I just panicked. I'd foolishly left my weapon at home, my armor, and my magic...isn't really good for city fighting. I tend to wreck things..." He offered an awkward laugh.

Having her so close, feeling her warmth against his was relaxing in its own. He walked silently, sometimes sneaking a peak at her from the corner of his eye, or watching as their steps fell into sync. Though he noticed how tired she was. "Maybe I should carry you? I mean...it's not too far...but..." He didn't know if this was insulting, or culturally acceptable to ask a Blackheart if they'd rather be carried. She was in bad shape, and he could see the exhaustion in her expression, but he understood pride. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything...

He just...didn't ever want to see her suffer. Ever.

Ruria considered him for a moment, a small smile peeking at the corners of her lips. She couldn't really resist the small and quiet smile as she saw his emotions shift into something excitably happy. Was it happy? What was he happy about, she wondered.

When he asked to carry her, she had stopped walking, staring at the ground as she debated, and then, without a word, nodded to him, but rather than enter his arms from in front of him, she sidled to his back, placing her arms over his shoulders and hopping up with a bit of effort onto his back, wrapping her legs around his middle. She was soft against his harder frame, but she liked how it felt under her, something sturdy and practically inviting in its own way. She let out a soft sigh near his ear, her eyes almost closing entirely as the strain on her body was ebbed away, and laid her head gently against his.

"This feels familiar, somehow..." she murmured quietly, as they continued on towards his home. "...But it's only my second piggy-back ride."

Before she knew it, they had arrived at his home. She knew it was his immediately, as the place was awash in his scent - not a musky, foul, sweaty scent, but simply, his scent, the faint kind she had been breathing in while being so close to him on the way there.

"Thank you, noble steed. If I had a sugarcube, I would feed it to you in gratitude, but unfortunately, all I have is what you see." she let out a small groan as she slid off his back, giving him a childish, friendly pat on his head, which transformed into her reaching with both hands to play with tussling his hair -- an action which made her freeze suddenly as she caught his gaze. She swallowed hard, her face filling with a bit of color as she blushed. I still can't believe I kissed him. He must think I'm terribly odd...

He was a bit surprised when she jumped onto his back, but his muscles relaxed, feeling her light weight against him. He shivered as she relaxed into him. Her body practically melded into his, and she wasn't difficult to carry at all. In fact, he really enjoyed having her atop his back like this. It was innocent, yet deeply intimate somehow.

"Only your second? I was always the one giving the piggy-back rides when I was younger. But my dad would carry me like this all the time, then swing me around." He contemplated doing so to her, but opted for safety and not stupidity. She was wounded, and that would do her no good.

When they got to his townhouse, she slid down off him, calling him a noble steed. He neighed sarcastically, before offering a cheeky smile, yet as she went to grasp at his hair, his smile changed into an inviting, welcoming one. "I mean...sugarcubes are fantastic, but I'm rather glad to have your gratification as well."

He saw her blush, but instead of pushing it, he pulled away, opening the door with his key and allowing her inside first.

It was a simple abode. Lightly furnished with the essentials, mostly furniture that his parents had bought him out of fear he'd never get it himself. The walls were painted in cool blue hues with light brown accents. Though the kitchen was more dramatic, with a silver and black backslash, deep night sky granite counter tops and a black icebox and wood-burning stove. It was more like the night sky, with the moon versus the rest of the house. Aodhan spent a lot of time in his kitchen, as he enjoyed baking when he had time off. Though he wasn't entirely sure admitting that to Ruria this soon would work for him, or against him.

"I've got a spare bedroom, but it's not furnished. I could take the couch and let you sleep in my bed? I don't mind. Do you need anything? Food, drink? Oh, uh the shower's just up the stairs, down the hall and to your right."

He suddenly felt extremely nervous. Here she was, inside his home, seeing another part of his life where he only once again, did not get to see hers. Aodhan felt like he was practically an open book to her, yet she was an impossible force to know and understand. He went into the kitchen, opening the icebox and looked about for food. He had some fruit they could eat. He enjoyed going to the market, picking up strawberries and blueberries as well as pineapple. They were his favorites. He wondered what kind of food she liked to eat. Was she allergic to anything? Did she like sweets? What was her favorite food?

So many questions, yet it seemed so inappropriate to ask.

She probably made him nervous, she thought, watching him pull away a bit awkwardly. She kept a polite, yet emotionless half-smile on her face as she followed him in. "It doesn't matter where I sleep." she said softly, watching him and listening as he explained his home to her. It somehow felt homey, even though she was fairly certain he lived by himself -- at least, homier than the simple room she lived in within Poena Privus blackheart barracks. "You don't need to fuss over anything, really," she told him, offering a half-smile, before disappearing to where he said the shower would be.

It wasn't long before she was under the pouring hot water, watching as blood, both her own and her attackers, washed off of her and swirled into the drain. She watched it as if in a trance, emotion leaving her face. She had realized that night that no, she could never be a shield. Only a weapon. Much of her current exhaustion was due to her own magic eating her life, and not from the wounds placed on her by her attackers. Wounds healed, pain was lessened by salve, but not the rot inside her chest. One day, it was going to claim her, drag her down into being just like the monsters she lived to destroy.

Minutes later, Ruria padded down back to the kitchen, wrapped in a towel, her hair mostly dried but still slightly damp. It hadn't occurred to her to wear her dirty, blood-spattered clothes again, nor did it occur to her that being in only a towel might have been embarrassing. She was getting deja-vu -- the last time she was in a male's house was Azra'iels, also a knight, also trundling around in a towel because of mission-filthied clothes. Was this going to happen everytime she involved with the knights?

She crept silently towards the kitchen, watching Aodhan fuss around with something with his back turned to her, a slight grin curling up on her lips as the sudden urge to scare him out of his skin took over her thoughts. She began to creep forward as silently as she could, but something...made her pause in her steps, confused suddenly as she watched him.

There was a memory there, a bit fuzzy, but she remembered that same hair color, that same color of eyes, that same demeanor as the boy she stole biscuits from at a young age. Her brows furrowed together as she tried to remember what he looked like. He had nearly caught her then as she stole his biscuit, but surely it would be too much of a coincidence if Aodhan were that same boy.

She shook the thought away, and continued predating upon him, inching closer, bit by bit, and then she pounced, roaring out some girlish, horrifying noise to scare him as she descended upon what she thought would be his backside.

Aodhan mulled over sleeping arrangements as he leaned against the granite counter tops in the kitchen, staring at his silver clock that had different stages of the moon instead of numbers upon it. It would be nice of him to give up the bed, but he somehow wanted to be in that bed with her...

'No you p***k... That's way too soon.'

He wasn't even sure what had happened that night. He had found such a longing for her, a deep, void resided within him, and he'd never known what it was till she came to fill it. He didn't want to see her leave. He only wanted to bring a smile to her face, and do anything and everything to make her feel appreciated...perhaps one day, even loved.

He opened the icebox, rummaging around, grabbing some of the fruit and putting it out on a cutting board. He'd make them some fruit and yogurt parfaits.

As he cut into the soft fruits, his mind wandered again. Was tonight it? No...it couldn't be. Not after what he'd said to her... Not after what she said to him.

'But you're my hero.'

The words echoed in his mind like a ghost haunting his every step. Those words, she wouldn't just say to anyone. There had to be something between them! And when she kissed him...

He went back to the icebox, taking out the yogurt and over to a cabinet to grab two bowls. He put the yogurt in, and then went back to the fruits to finish up cutting them.

It was then he heard a growling noise and turned quickly to see Ruria, damp and in a towel. He caught her, her chest coming into his body, as his eyes rounded and a deep red came up his cheeks. "I-I-I made us some food?" he said, his voice cracking.

He pulled back, not trusting his loins so close to her in her current wardrobe state. "Do you like fruit? Yogurt? I could make something else if it's not good enough?" He leaned against the counter, crossing his legs.

"Oh and...sorry. You startled me." He offered a shaken smile, though his eyes couldn't help but keep giving her quick look overs. She had a beautiful body. Lush breasts, thick thighs. She was the epitome of the female body.

'Damn it...stop checking her out and eat your food you moron!'

"Curses!" she muttered under her breath, giving him a long and gloomy scowl. "You were supposed to be frightened. I'm losing my touch." She was aware of the feel of his grip on her, but she didn't hate it -- quite the contrary, she liked his touch, but too soon after she felt it, he had retracted it.

"I'm happy with whatever you make for me -- why are you guarding your pelvis in such a manner?" she eyed how he had become awkwardly 'aware' of his groin, crossing his legs in ways men usually wouldn't. She gave a suspicious look, staring directly at his hips, and slowly raised her gaze up to meet his, a coy smirk flickering across her lips. "Are you...checkmating me?" she asked playfully, though of course getting the verbatum wrong. Innuendos..were not her strong point. "Well, how dare you, Aodhan!" she cried, in mock outrage. It was clear there wasn't a bit of real anger within her as she delighted in his reaction. "How dare you gaze upon my towel-clad figure, and not offer anything in fair trade? I thought...you were more fair than this~" she placed the back of her hand to her forehead dramatically as she left the kitchen, disappearing for a few minutes before trudging back in.

At first it seemed as if she had put on some off-shoulder nightgown, but on closer inspection, one would realize she had pilfered the thin sheet from his bed, tying it in creative places to simulate some toga-esque garment that showed just the barest hint of cleavage underneath. "I hope you don't mind if I borrow this fine... dress. I wouldn't want to get blood and filth on your sheets or anything. Why do you own a dress anyways, Aodhan?" She made her way back towards him, taking the knife from the tabletop and continuing to slice the fruit he was working on. Cooking, creating, was something she enjoyed. She spent most of her days destroying things, so it was oddly therapeutic for her to be able to "make" something, ven if she intended to destroy it after by consuming it. After some amount of silence, she glanced back up at him, smiling softly, and less smug. "You're staring..again. You must really like strawberries." With that, she picked up a piece of sliced strawberry, and offered it against the softness of his lips.

She wanted to see him grin again, it was somehow..enjoyable. Odd, but enjoyable. She couldn't recall being effected very much by the smiles of others -- When Sibelius smiled at her, it filled her with a sense of dread, even. But when Aodhan smiled at her, she felt as if she would blush, and her body felt light, almost...happy, just like that brief time in her childhood. "You remind me a little of someone I used to know." she said without thinking.

Ch-check...mating?" Aodhan stared at her with a raised eyebrow for a moment, watching her create her pretend-anger mode, and then pretend storm off.

"Well, if it's a fair trade you want..." He slipped off his shirt, tossing it onto the corner counter and waited for her to come back in. He grinned shrugging. "I hope that's a fair trade enough. And wait...I don't own any dresses?" Then he realized what she was wearing. He started to laugh, shaking his head. "You're truly something else. That's a bedsheet." He decided to ignore her comment on staring and strawberries. It wasn't that he was particularly staring at her anymore. He was more or less...astonished at her. She was...so culturally...innocent. He took the strawberry from her fingers with his mouth, awkwardly chuckling about it, trying to make it seem less of a big deal.

"Oh? A little someone?" He finished cutting up his strawberries and other fruits, sliding them into his yogurt and taking out two spoons from a drawer. He moved to the breakfast nook, sitting down, but turning so he faced her completely. "Is there a story there?" He could feel the gentle wind from his fan overhead blowing against his shoulders as he stirred his yogurt up with the fruit. This was probably his favorite meal of all time. It was nice, having someone around the house to share such small moments like this, even if he was practically freaking out underneath his skin.

"Yes, I imagine that's fair. I'm going to look." she gave a soft smirk, before sitting next to him, and taking a bite of the yogurt, her face scrunching somewhat at the slight sour and sweet, but it was enjoyable. "Sthory?" she mumbled, with her spoon still in her mouth. "I stole biscuits from him." She took another bite. "I suppose I've never really been one to make friends. I was born into this duty, and when my parents died, my training was formally taken over by other blackhearts. It's always been very harsh training...we're made to endure torture and to be able to survive, and so around the age of 12 or so, any kids in the program are dumped in a forest somewhere and intended to survive for a month. It's not as harsh as it seems..." she laughed a little, waving away any worries he might have been gathering of blackhearts allowing children to die in the forest. "They have older blackhearts check on them every week to make sure they're alive and okay. I mean, some have died in the past...but it's something we accepted as blackhearts. But well, right..to the point." She stirred the pieces of fruit into the gooey substance and stared at it, remembering.

"I got dumped in the forest near here. I was on my own for about a week when I found my way out of it by accident, to some little area on the outskirts of the woods. There were people there, and I was hungry, so ...I stole this boy's biscuit right out from under him. Three days in a row. He got pretty mad I think, and one day followed me back into the woods. I must have seemed like a pink-haired forest troll to him." she laughed softly in the memory. "He was the closest thing I had that I could call a "friend", even though we never knew each other's names, at least...for the rest of the month, until I was recovered and taken back to Poena Privus. He was also my first and only piggy back ride, aside from you. I'd gotten hurt one day when he came to see me, and so he carried me out, even though I was kicking and screaming about going to a doctor. He was simply...admirable and kind, really. Much like yourself."

She let her gaze stray towards Aodhan's face, taking in his expression. In truth, she hadn't meant to divulge that much information to him, but it had just..slipped out, so naturally. Aodhan had that effect on her, a strangely calming aura that made her able to drop her guard, even if just little by little.
"And what of you, Sir Knight? Any childhood escapades of your own?"

So she used to have pink hair... She was the girl in the woods whom Aodhan thought a forest fairy... He couldn't speak, as tears threatened to fall from his eyes as he listened to her speak of...him. He had been the one whom she'd stolen food from. He'd been the one to follow her each day, tracking her and when she'd been hurt... It had been him who'd taken her to safety.

'Is it fate or chance? I can never decide.'

He stirred up his parfait, wishing he'd had some oats to mix into it. "Well. I did have this one childhood escapade. I had been eating lunch with my family and another's family. He's in the Knights with me now, our father's were the same rank, so we grew up together as sparing partners. My mother loved to bake biscuits, and we had plenty of them to spare, but I had gathered up my own to go play further by the woods, to see how well my magic would work. This...little fairy came darting out, taking my food right from me. Every day I'd come back, pretending that I didn't have enough for just myself and another, but I'd always be only bringing food for her. She was a springy little thing, with pink hair and round, innocent eyes. I pretended to be angry each time, hoping she'd one day stick around and split a biscuit with me. But she never did." He paused for a moment, taking a bite of his food.

"So I started to follow my little fairy into the woods, watching as her pink hair stuck out like a sore thumb against the greens and browns of the earth. She'd gotten hurt, and I didn't know if fairy's could heal on their own or not...so I carried her, despite her fits of anger. I was determined to make sure she was safe." He paused again, looking straight down at his bowl.

"I never saw her again. But I wanted to. Each week I'd go back to that forest, wondering if she'd pop out... It took me 3 months before I got the picture. She wasn't coming back. I just wanted to know if she was alright. So... are you alright, Ruria?" The light, playful warmth drained from his eyes as sheer concern took over his features. It had been Ruria. What had happened to her? What had made her hair go white? What had changed her aura? What horrors had she faced alone? Aodhan wanted to know. He needed to.

Was it fate? Or chance?

((OHGODFEELS.))

At first, she had expected to hear of gallavating adventures of a boy who would soon become a knight, how he had innocently victimized the elderly in his pursuit of glory with other boys, but as he told his story, she found herself unable to blink, or even breathe, her spoon hovering over the small container. It couldn't be...could it? But, he was telling it so well, as if he was truly there - then that must mean, it was him, he had been there...

What could she say, now? She had never been able to return to that place, never truly knowing how to get there, but she had thought about him all this time, never knowing...and now, he was sitting right beside her.

"S-...She wanted to come back, but didn't know the way." she said softly, her voice damp with the stinging tears that fought to be released. They confused her...she didn't feel sad -- quite the contrary, so why did she want to cry? She had expected never to find that person, who had been the closest thing she had to what she heard others call a friend, or a playmate, but now she was looking right into his eyes. "You must be disappointed to find out I'm not a fairy, but more of a ghoul." she said, trying to lighten the topic, but it didn't work. Two large, gloppy tears escaped her eyes, and she immediately rubbed violently at them to make them disappear.

She wanted to tell him she was okay, she was alright, but it wasn't entirely the truth. She hadn't been alright since she had allowed her magic to really be a part of her -- she feared it was going to consume her, take over, turn her into a monster only capable of destruction. Yet, since Aodhan had come back into her life, she had found that things weren't as dark as she had once believed. She had thought this part of her had been lost forever, but little by little, he was waking it up, making the dark go away, and the goodness return.

"I can't tell you that I'm alright, Aodhan." she said, staring at the table. "But I can tell you that I think i'll be alright, i..if you.... if..you... don't..go away."

And suddenly, she felt extremely guilty for not sharing the biscuits she stole with him, and vowed inwardly to share everything edible from that point on. Ruria continued to stare almost awkwardly at the table, until she could restrain herself no long, and nearly sent both their parfaits flying as she wrapped her arms around him, and pressed snuggly into him in an embrace.

He nodded, accepting what she was saying. She saw herself as something so malicious, violent and terrible. She beat herself up every chance she got. Her magic was her curse, yet it was part of her, much like Aodhan was controlled by his. He reached out, caressing the top of her hand for a moment before saying, "You're not a ghoul. You're just a person. We all have good and bad in us. No one is perfect. It's what makes us...us."

He watched as her soul crawled up further and further inside her, draining away from the surface, only to explode right back out as the words continue to slowly make their way out from her lips. He wouldn't go away... He was more worried that she would, based on the behavior she was showing. It wasn't in his nature to abandon anyone, and this... He'd known her so long ago, though they'd never known each other's names, their stories, or hardly even heard each other truly speak. Theirs was a relationship of cat and mouse... But now it was differen't. Aodhan had found her again. He certainly wouldn't just let her walk away. Not this time, not ever.

As her arms coiled around him, he responded, doing the same, stroking her shoulders with his thumbs. He said nothing. For what could be said now that she couldn't just tell from how he held her. Risking to break their moment, he kissed the top of her head softly, before resting his chin atop her again.

It was chance that they met. It was fate...that they met again. And that's the story Aodhan was sticking with.

He was warm. She could feel his heartbeat gently thrumming against his chest where her face rested. Was this right of her? Did she deserve to be able to do this? But, he was so warm, it felt so nice as his warmth and scent enveloped her, and she felt the soft warmth of his lips press onto her forehead.

Ruria blinked, surprised as as color filled her cheeks. She had kissed his lips that night...and he had kissed her forehead - just what did she feel for this person? She had thought of him more than necessary -- much more than normal, for sure..since their departure. As she had neared Lumena that night, her chest began to flutter excitedly, more so than when she had gone to meet others. She had simply wanted to see him, wanted to be around him. Was that it? No, it couldn't be simply that. She liked him...perhaps even wanted to love this person, someday...but could she bear the burden of exile again? That weakness that had filled her from head to toe, the cold, brutal sting of rejection -- perhaps Aodhan only looked on her in a brotherly manner. The thought made her chest feel tight.

"I-I'm sorry, I keep randomly assaulting you, it seems." she murmured, extricating herself from him slowly. "But it's...it's wonderful to see you again. A-and it's not a dye job, you know. M-My hair. My magic is an element..an obscure element, but an element, and accepting it...I suppose was rather scary? You know, scared so much your hair turns white." she laughed in embarrassment.

When she pulled away, Aodhan felt as if the world was moving away from him, leaving him out in empty, cold space, to be alone in the dark forever. He knew that she couldn't just stay there, if anything, limbs would start to go numb and backs would strain, but... He didn't like her pulling away. It was like she was giving up, or reasoning with herself. He didn't like that.

"Do you have...some kind of spirit magic?" he asked, cocking his head a bit as he took a lock of her hair in his hands, feeling how silken soft it was. "Though, I think white suits you. Pink's much more for forest fairies." It was meant to be a light joke, and hopefully his smile only helped reiterate that, but he couldn't help but feel she may not respond well to it. Though, hopefully that was just his own worries of not wanting to be rejected.

Aodhan hadn't had much love in his life. Most of the affections he'd ever had come from his family. And before Ruria... there had been Kian. A relationship based on lies, manipulation and sex. Aodhan had been so in love, but Kian had just been holding the strings to his heart. Despite how much Aodhan wanted Ruria, he was afraid. He didn't want to hurt like that again. But he didn't want to just give up without really experiencing what a real relationship felt like. Could they even have that together? Would Ruria give in? Would he?

"Tomorrow, do you have to leave? I'd like to buy you lunch, like...as a date?"
