Rex shrugged. "The enemy of today might be the friend of tomorrow. Or so I've been told. Personally I like to pick a side and stay there, but with my line of work it's never that simple."

He led her to a park. Next to a lake, hidden by heavy foilage, a large vault-like door was positioned in the earth. Rex pulled away a side panel, revealing a number pad. He typed in his passcode and ushered Zevi inside.

The lights clicked on automatically. The room was large, but drab. Dust outlines on the floor were all that remained of this weapons cache. Now it was more or less just an expensive hole in the ground.

Ducking into the room she had to pull out some of the leaves that had gotten stuck in the curl of her horn "Well, I'm on your side so anyone that wants to be your enemy has to deal with an angry frost troll." she said happily. Looking around the room at the different sized outlines, her tail swayed lazily occasionally brushing against the ground and leaving a mark in the dust she could tell that things had been here recently. It was a bit like the tundra, all one color, but significantly less cold. Zevi turned around to make sure Rex got in with no problems from his leg, though he was used to it by now, she wanted to know for a fact that all was well.

Rex laughed a bit nervously, remembering now that he was actually running from a group that shared blood with Zevi, unbeknownst to her. When Hemani, their leader, discovered that Rex wasn't as dead as she'd planned - and she probably already had - she would come looking for him herself. That was a scary thought for Rex. He had...a past with that one. That, and she was tall. He could never quite get over the fact that she had four inches on him.

"Well, you actually may want to sit an eventual fight out. Because the folks that want me dead at the moment are a bunch'a thawed frost trolls. My weapon dealing is in direct competition with theirs," he grumbled with a grimace as he descended the stairs. "Jeez, could it be any colder down here?"

He rubbed his bare arms and chest a bit, looking around for the spare set of clothes he'd left here the last time he'd been in. He opened a few cabinets, not really recalling where he'd set them. It was bothering him to go without a shirt for so long, though - his scars were more sensitive than the rest of his skin, and cold was especially tenderizing. That, and the scars that laced his back like crosshatching were pretty numerous, deep.

"It's better to have someone with you in a fight, especially against other trolls. Besides, I told Lira I'd do my best to take care of you and I can't do that if I sit out, can I?" she exhaled a breath to see if it would be visible in the vault, though it was not and she shook her head with a laugh "It's not that bad down here, but I guess I'm still used to things being so cold that ice crystal can form on your skin..." she said watching him in his search, wondering what the story behind each of his scars was.

Zevi considered offering him some of her furs but with him being a foot taller than her they wouldn't be a good fit, which meant they would do very little good. "If it's too cold for you down here, we can always huddle up like we did on the nights that were too cold, even for us."

"Thanks, Zev." Rex was relieved that she wouldn't mind fighting some trolls of her own blood if it came down to it. He hadn't wanted it to result in tension between them. The Lira bit, though, raised his eyebrows. That little brat was always looking out for him.. He said nothing about it though, instead continuing to look around for the clothes.

When she brought up huddling, Rex paused only slightly. He looked over his shoulder at her with a solid grin. "While normally I would take a pretty troll up on that offer without a second thought, I don't think it'll be necessary yet. These bunkers are able to generate their own warmth, they just need a little time to kick in before you can feel it."

He was sorely in need of affection, but he knew women. They had to be trusting, warmed up and above all interested for even a kiss to happen.

Zevi nodded her acknowledgement of him saying thank you and continued to wander around, occasionally occasionally opening a door hoping to help Rex find whatever it was he was looking for.

Shifting in place, the compliment had thrown her off a bit, it was nice, but unexpected. "Thank you." she said rubbing the back of her head and smiling up at Rex. "ah...I'm glad I still have some furs to take off then..." The city had been warm enough during the day wandering around in them all, if it was going to get that warm again she definitely didn't want to be stuck feeling like she was getting cooked.

"So, what else is there to do in the city?" she asked after moving to try and help Rex find whatever he was looking for.

"No worries, Zev."

Rex smiled back at her, almost grinning. Damn, she had a gorgeous smile. He shook off the butterflies in his stomach though and went back to looking. Finally he found his spare clothes, and sighed. They were summer edition, really - a black tank top and olive drab cargo shorts. He'd leave the pants on for now, but the shirt was a must. He also pulled out the spare cot and a pair of blankets in the event that either of them needed warmth. He pulled the shirt on thankfully, then began setting the cot up.

"Ah, there's plenty to do. You'd be hard-pressed to get bored if you weren't shy of travelin' and had the money to do it," he replied to her, swearing briefly at the troublesome cot before continuing. "Personally, I just tend to get myself into trouble while I'm tryin' to make money. But I'd suggest you don't follow my example."

"Sounds like it'll be an interesting time while I get used to things." with the way things sounded she was excited, perhaps a bit impatient, to be able start exploring the city. A bit nervous that she'd not be able to adapt to the way things worked, but determined. On their way to the bunker Zevi had heard something she wanted to investigate, music. It was more than just the heavy, rhythmic beating of drums that she was used to, perhaps that's where she would start.

"Right then, you get into it and itty bitty me will get you out!" she teased, giving him a light poke on the shoulder before taking one end of the cot so that Rex would have an easier time opening it. "these look like what we would build for the young to sleep on, except metal and cloth instead of wood, stone, and furs. Ours didn't fold either."

Rex gave Zevi his typical snarky smirk. "Heh, 'itty bitty' is smaller than I'd give ya credit for, but sure, we can call you that."

He stuck out his tongue as he grinned, then worked with her to set the cot up. "They use these things mostly for sleeping outside of the city, like during war detail. But I snagged a few in a trade and they come in handy if my position becomes compromised. Not comfy, but they do the trick."

He withheld a comment regarding how poorly the cots faired when more than one person tried to sleep on them, if only to avoid a slap.

"when most of your tribe is seven n' a half to eight feet tall or more, itty bitty is exactly what I am." her size did occasionally annoy her, but she was grateful for it as it had saved her hide more than a few times when larger trolls underestimated her thinking her to be weak, sickly, or both only to be surprised by speed and ferocity. While thinking on this Zevi absentmindedly let one of her hands rub her horn.

"I can tell, they might be sturdy but they're poorly designed." she said pushing up on the bottom of the cloth to show what she was talking about "Then again, these weren't for long term like ours were."

"Yeah, I know that feelin'. I'm shorter than a lot of the women - let alone men - in the city. Only most of the cave trolls are around my height." He too made up for his weak points with cunning and dexterity. He wasn't very agile on his feet though. "That's alright though, at least we don't hit our heads when we enter a smaller room, right?"

He stood and looked the cot over. "Yup, these are crappy but we should only need them for the night. Before you woke I called around and found an old house we can use until the frost trolls forget about me."

He was being hopeful and he knew it. Hemani never stopped looking for someone that slighted her.

Zevi gave a soft snort "I guess we got more than a missing limb in common then." looking at her new arm, it was still odd to see it attached to her where her arm should have been. "or get our horns caught up in things, I can't tell you how many times a tent was ruined by some careless brute not minding his horns!" this annoyed her greatly because it was usually her tent that was destroyed.

"I know you said that your territories conflict with each other but..."she paused only a moment, crossing her arms and studying his face. "..as angry as you make them sound, I can't help but wonder what did you do to anger them so?" she tilted her head to one side wondering if he would answer, though she wouldn't mind if he chose not to.

"Yeah, but I'm still taller than you," he said in a teasing tone, ruffling her hair. "Fortunately we're fresh out of tents here. Most of the architecture is solid enough."

When she asked him to elaborate, he ran his hands through his hair, tapping his horns along the way. "Well, mostly it's just business. I sell weapons illegally, so do they. They sell en masse, I sell to individuals and smaller groups. However, we take each other's business from time to time and their leader is a bit too territorial for a female, I'd say." He grimaced and sat on one of the cots. "Hemani - that's her name. She and I were also briefly an item, but she's a b***h and she showed it from day one. Never again."

"By a foot!" she shook her head to get her hair back into place, Zevi knew she was counting her horns in her height with that statement, hopefully he wouldn't call her on it. Before flopping down onto the Cot opposite Rex Zevi pulled off the first of two layers that she still had on, it was definitely getting warmer in here, hopefully it wouldn't get too much warmer. "Damn, you weren't kidding when you said this place could generate heat..."

Mulling over what Rex told her for a moment before responding "Not all frost tribes are led by males anymore, some of them run like the all female jungle tribes do." she blew a puff of air up at her hair "though I guess that doesn't explain her since she's a city troll, but maybe that's what's causing it?"

Pressing the back of her hand to her mouth she yawned, then shrugged at Rex. "At least you realized it and got away, don't usually got much of a choice up north." she paused so that she could turn onto her side and face Rex "Especially not if your chief decides that trading is required to settle a conflict, or introduce new genetics to prevent inbreeding. Which is what caused some tribes to be formed with female leaders, they weren't happy about having their choice taken from them."

Rex cackled a bit, rolling back in his cot and pulling a blanket over himself. He looked up at the concrete ceiling and heaved a content sigh. Crappy sleeping arrangements, maybe - but better than the floor.

"Some things modern society did right," he said. "It shouldn't get much warmer, but if it does I can turn it down."

While speaking about Hemani, Rex grumbled a bit. "I don't care what's causing her issues so long as she gets 'em fixed and stops chasin' me." He put his arms behind his head as a pillow of sorts, then looked over to Zevi with a serious glance. "If I had gotten stuck with her, I would have ended it myself. Tribe be damned."
