someone had found him. Wondering if she would be a risk of any kind, he carefully surveyed her before speaking, "Yes, that I am," he said, rising fomr his seat on the ground. He moved out of the shadows toward her, his armor rattling with every step. "How you know my name I am unsure..." he drawled, casting his eyes down at her, "But because you are speaking to me, I assume you have some shread of business, perhaps?"
(He's not a very nice person... ahaha... sweatdrop )

Jay stood her full height but still felt a bit midget in stature to Kurayami. She looked up at him and nodded as he inquired her business. It wouldn't make things easier if she told him she was with Isis for he wasn't with any movement group, loners never did like those that took sides and the only way Jay knew that was because that's how she was for a while. She spoke quietly but loud enough for him to hear for her conversation didn't need to be broadcasted around the city, "The murders around the city...." she slowly began, " they match up with the abilities of celestials. For instance, you can manipulate the shadows and metal correct?" She rose both eyebrows inquiringly and then kept going, "I don't suppose you know of anyone else with this power that could have some sort of revenge quest against normal people." Jay wanted to make it clear that she didn't suspect him although she wasn't quite sure if Isis did or not. Slowly she fixed her eyes on his and let her mind wander a bit, she wouldn't extract any information just yet, she would wait until he answered or didn't.

Artemis Xetsa ((I'm going to go ahead and post, since Penden and I have met. I want to see how this turns out. Penden, Mock isn't going to realize he's with any particular organization. She's just a naive kid, and unless she was expecting it, she wouldn't come to that conclusion if any random person walked up to her. She doesn't always peek into people's minds, so she's not going to assume he's with one of the higher-up organizations.)) ((great. Than put that in your post, like you did. I was going off of your previous posts.)) It occured to Samuel that the kid didn't get the seriousness of this yet, so he would milk that while he could. He took out something that was like a PDA (which you could get cheaper than paper) and asked, "What's your name? ....Oh, first, would you like to sit down? I think there's a bench just up the street."

Kurayami glanced aorund. A few street bums were starting to hide and try to listen in on their conversation, "I really do not think this is a good place," he said, returning his gaze to the girl. "But, yes, I can manipulated the shadows and metal as I please. For the other question..." He looked around again. He wasn't hesitating because he wasn't going to cooperate. Kurayami had already figured that she was from some organization or another, otherwise she wouldn't bother with him. Most people tended to leave Celestials alone if they didn't have some sort of business through one of the organizaitons. Plus, the sooner the mrderer was caught the sooner he could go back to prowling the slums freely. He would look much too suspicious now. The only choice he had was to cooperate right now. "It would be better to talk about it in private," he bent down next to her ear and whispered it, so none of the surrounding people would hear him. He stood up and raised his visable eyebrow, as though waiting a respone to the question 'Accompany me elsewhere?'

((Yeah, cool. I didn't mean to sound assy, or act like it's obvious, cause it's not. I'm just saying.))
"Uh, yeah," she said, kind of half-heartedly gesturing to the bench. If they needed to sit down it was probably a long survey. Oh, well. She had nothing better to do.
"My name's Naia Laex," she said, coming up with a quick name as they walked to the bench. It was an impulse, but she just didn't want to give her real name out to this man.

(that's alright. I just had an attack of cranky domokun )
Samuel penned it in like he believed her. "I'll want your age and things, too. I say, shouldn't you be in school?" he asked with a smile. "Don't you have any one looking after you? Oh, sorry, I'm skipping ahead... How many people do you live with?"
Sam was trying to seem only vaguely concerned when in reality he was very interested in how she lived her life and why. Maybe she was homeless. Maybe she would like him to buy her lunch, not in a creepy older man way, but in a random act of charity sort of way.
He was sitting beside her now, one ankle resting on his knee as he penned in her answers. At ease.

What kind of questions were these? she thought. Maybe it was just so that the survey would show what ages had what sort of answers?
"I'm sixteen, and I'm emancipated. I've dropped out of school. I go from place to place. I live with the [insert exact number of people in the city here((I don't know it))] other people in Andel." He scribbled down her answers and "mm-hmm"ed like he really cared.
Maybe just a little peek into his head.
No, she told herself, try to figure out this one the old-fashioned way, just for a bit of a challenge.

"You don't live any where, then?" he asked as soon as he had entered in the information. He made sure to meet her eyes to carry off his concerned look. "We can talk over lunch. I'll buy." He shrugged. "It's just a stupid survey, any way."
"Oh, but one last question-- have you ever seen, er, any magic? You know-- Celestials? Any thing strange in the past month?" He smiled at the younger girl, hoping she wouldn't jump at the question.

She eyed him. "I live everywhere," she said slyly, hoping he wouldn't become suspicious.
"Yeah, lunch, sure. That'd be fine."
Then he sprung his last question on her. "Celestials" he'd said. That's what Mock's mother had called them. She'd burned the lesson into Mock's mind to never reveal herself as a Celestial to anyone, so Mock carefully crafted her response and her expression.
"Celestials? You mean those fairy-tales? The people who supposedly have super powers and run around robbing stores and helping grandmas. How'm I supposed to see 'em if they don't exist? They're just tales, after all, right? Just stories to scare kids into staying in their buildings and not wandering off."
Now she was jumpy, though. This guy was looking for Celestials, not taking some survey. But she'd said she'd have lunch with him, she couldn't skip out now, or he'd be suspicious for sure.

"Fairy tales," Samuel laughed, making it clear that he believed full well in them. Maybe he was one, or maybe he was a crazy paranoid guy who hadn't been put into an institute yet. Or maybe he was both.
"Boy, I could tell you some stories-- over lunch. I would understand, though, if talking in public makes you nervous. If I was just a kid your age, with no way to defend myself, I'd be scared too." He stood and brushed his shirt off. "The restaurant I was thinking of is just down the street. Amy's. Ever heard of it?"

This man was trouble.
But trouble was what Mockingbird lived for.
"Yeah," she shrugged. "Amy's. They've got decent synth' at pretty good prices. Good choice." She stood also and gestured for him to lead the way.
No way to defend myself, huh? she thought. We'll see about that, mister.

(wow, where is every one?)
Sam walked ahead of her, though he didn't like having his back exposed like that. Still, she was just a kid. If they were wrong and she wasn't really a Celestial, his training could probably beat her street smarts. He kept his hands in his pockets and led the way quietly, opening the door for her when they got to the restaurant. There was a table in the corner that was open, and it was a seat yourself place.
"Order whatever you like. Any thing to keep you talking," he told her quietly as she came up to the open door.

Mock grinned and rubbed her hands together in and eager gesture. "Yes, sir," she said enthusiatically. They sat down and she snatched up a menu to look through while waiting for him to ask some more questions.
The diner was an old-fashioned place. Faux-leather seats and tile flooring: old-fashioned as Mock's grandmother. There were paintings on the wall that didn't make any sense to anyone, but were made to look smart and educated, so that if you looked at them for too long, you felt like getting out of there and just gettinga burger instead.
She thought her choices over. Should she milk this sap for all he's worth? Or be polite.
Mock? Polite? Ha.

Sam let her peruse the menu in silence. When she ordered, he smiled, unperturbed by how much she could ring up. He didn't even ask her if she could eat all that. The truth was, of course, that he had enough money that he didn't have to worry about it, and he didn't mind her guessing that. It was already clear that he wasn't a normal street urchine. Soon it would become even clearer.
They were in the corner and the restaurant was purposefully designed to buffer sound. That's why the posters on the wall were not under glass, and that's why the cushiony seats. Sam had picked this place on purpose. If they kept their voices down, no one would hear them. "So," he asked her, "You're sure you've never seen any thing strange? I'm not asking you to name names, of course. But I'm very interested in the powers that are out there." He chuckled. "I was really hoping you were one, you know. Then I could like you more."
