Weekly Jump magazine has the latest scoop regarding an all new Final Fantasy VII spin off title for PS2, featuring gunman Vincent Valentine as the central character, in the works over at Square Enix.
All part of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII project, Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus is said to take place one year after the "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" movie which will be available on DVD and PSP.
The mysterious follow-up to Final Fantasy VII was first revealed in July of 2004. This supposed sequel to Cloud's epic adventure uncharacteristically utilizes the same universe, heroes, and villains as the 1996 PSOne RPG. Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus revolves around a mysterious group called the DGs who are attacking peaceful towns in the world.
So far Dirge of Cerberus has a tentative Japanese release date for 2005, but no date has been announced for Europe or North America, nor has a specific "genre" been attributed to the game.
Stay tuned for more updates as next week's Tokyo Game Show will undoubtfully reveal more details about this mystery title.

Although it was only shown briefly on video at Square's Tokyo Game Show 2004 booth, we were able to bring back a few details regarding the gameplay of Square's PS2 Final Fantasy VII sequel. For those wondering why Square neglected to reveal the genre of the game before TGS, here's why: it's a third-person shooter. Looking somewhat similar to Devil May Cry, the ten or so second clip showed Vincent speedily running and jumping around and shooting at enemies with his trademark triple-barrel hand cannon. At one point, the camera zoomed into a first-person mode, likely to demonstrate sniping.
And that, unfortunately, is about all we could discern from the TGS teaser.
Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII trailer -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerebus is an adventure video game for the PlayStation 2 console system, to be published by the Japanese game company Square-Enix. It is a sequel to the highly popular 1997 game, Final Fantasy VII and one of the few sequels in the Final Fantasy series.
According to preview sites, the game will feature Vincent Valentine, one of the original characters from Final Fantasy VII in the lead role. This game is to take place three years after the events of Final Fantasy VII and one year following the events of the Final Fantasy VII movie, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. As of 2004, the game is due to be released in Japan sometime in 2005, with a North American release probably following at some undisclosed time in the future.
As this game has not been released as of 2004, many details are pure speculation at this point.

And here's another game:
Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII [working title] will be an action RPG, and it is currently slated to release in early 2006. The game will be produced by Yoshinori Kitase, who directed the original 1997 game. Tabata Hajime, who directed Before Crisis - Final Fantasy VII, the mobile phone Compilation game, will direct Crisis Core. The character designs will again be the work of Tetsuya Nomura, who designed the characters for FFVII, FFVIII, FFX, and the Kingdom Hearts series, among other Square Enix games.
The official teaser page for Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII has opened on Square Enix's site. GameSpot will bring you any additional information on Crisis Core as it breaks.
