"Eh, this is a nice place, huh Bhaskar?" Sam said to her invisible (to everyone else) pet as she strolled through the courtyard. "Hey look! There's some fairies! Let's go say hello!" Sam ran over to the group of fairies, talking to them excitedly. She didn't even notice the wierd looks she was getting of passing students.

Vienna strolled through the courtyard and noticed some of the other students were glancing weirdly at another girl who looked like she was talking to something that wasn't there. I doubt theres nothing there, Vienna thought, This is an institute for the gifted.

Sam laughed as the fairies flew around her head. Suddenly, they all stopped, and the next moment they were gone. Sam turned around to see a troll about to pounce on her, but before it could move, she kicked it hard, making it fly right at a blonde girl not far away. "Hey, duck!" Sam yelled, remembering that the girl wouldn't be able to see the troll coming.

Vienna instinctively ducked once she heard the girl yelling. She stood up with a puzzled look on her face. "What was that?" she asked

"Oh, that," Sam said, walking over to the girl. "It was only a troll. They can be pretty nasty at times, so it's best to just give them a nice kick when you see one. I'm Sam, by the way, and I just got here. What's your name?"

"Well," Vienna began, "My parents weren't gifted, they were actually afraid of my power, not that its scary or anything, but they were. They sent me to live with my grandmother because she was gifted too and when she died, I moved here. What about you?"

"Well, I'm not exactly sure why I'm here," Sam replied thoughtfully. "I was travelling with the dragon Danna, but after 3 years together, he just dropped me off here. Before I met him I was in a home, so I suppose I have a lot to thank him for. What is your power, anyway?"

"Awesome! Imagine that, not even having to move to make yourself a cup of coffee in the morning..." Sam grinned. "Me, well, I can see all sorts of creatures which apparently nobody else can. That runs in the family though, my own original power is that I can control fire. Sort of. I'm not very good at it yet."

"Yeah, it is useful" Vienna replied, "Wow, controlling fire... That'd be neat. I'm not sure if I'd be able to affect fire at all with my power, I've never tried it." She paused for a moment and then said "Creatures like the troll?"

"Yeah, creatures like the troll. And dragons, fairies, gryphons, pixies... I suppose most other people would call them mythical creatures. Or monsters." Then she added as an afterthought: "But most of them aren't bad at all."

"Yep, I've been having to put up with them my whole life!" Sam laughed, but then quickly added she was only joking. "It's actually rather funny, watching all those people who don't believe in these mythical creatures, when really they're all over the place."
