Vintrict whether he intends this or not, tends to balance based on concrete or implied evidence of effect. He's seen what Deitric or Tres or even Omi can do, and assumes their mechanics are imbalanced even if comparatively speaking, they're on par or even weaker than many submitted characters.

I get what you're saying, but I think it's also pretty safe to say that this is a pretty straight forward example of bias because you're not grading each profile fairly to achieve a certain median of power across all characters, you're giving some players more and some less base on how you perceive their skill.

"You generally succeed in your fights so I'm going to hamstring you so you can't perform well" is pretty much one step removed from "I don't like you so I'll hamstring you." because you've moved away from trying to achieve a balance of power between the characters to basically fixing/rigging the competition to try and keep some people from winning or to push others towards it.

We're supposed to grade characters, not players. I mean, like I said, I get the logic, but it's flawed in that it's unethical and unequal.

I mean, flawed, unethical logic aside.. it doesn't change that there was some deliberate lying going on about what is or isn't allowed into the tournament, as well as inconsistencies within what the rules allow, and what Vin allowed.

Sorry Sokoya. I'm afraid it's never that easy.

As for the fighting.. I don't care what you roleplay Molesting. I'm anxious to put some scrubs down under and Tres is too busy developing wrestling moves that involve squatting.

Hey man, I got to set the trends.

Certainly, and I entirely agree it's both biased and plainly wrong. But applying that type of logic I described, you can understand how easy it'd be for Vintrict to rationalize it's bias "for the greater good," no?

It's incredibly difficult to change someone's mind regarding that sort of thing. We can argue for days backing weeks backing months and still not change his mind because again, he's operating based off his perspective of his own observations. Why trust our arguments or our discussions, no matter how much logic or how many examples we use to back ourselves?

I've long ago come to terms with the fact you can't change some people's minds. It's easier to simply act and hope, in due time and with exposure, people will alter how they behave reflecting said actions.

Plus I stopped thinking Vintrict was impartial and logical back in GTB II.

For years I've came here with that giddy "Watch the world burn" mindset of mine wondering just what the hell Vintrict would do next, it's damned entertaining. A lot of you guys take it too seriously, the concept next iteration of the GTB'll see a radical improvement. Instead, come in here expecting to fight people, and then to be ******** floored by whatever insane logic Vintrict comes up with.

I kick myself right now for not bothering to sign up this year, I can only imagine what Vintrict might've said about my character.

I'm not trying to change Vintrict's mind. After dealing with him during the GTB V and watching how he acted in Sigil, it's obvious that there's no point, for far too many reasons to list.

I'm doing it so that participants can see and decide for themselves whether or not they're okay with that sort of biased and/or unethical judging approach to their profiles, and likely, their fights. I don't really care what Vin does or thinks, but I do think people ought to know how things are handled by him so they know what they're going to have to deal with.

I might be an a*****e, but I think I'd be even more of one if I let people walk into a metaphorical minefield without at least warning them that they might get their foot blown off.

So on another note, do I get sketchy Chinese food or Italian food for the 4 millionth time?

Hael

I guess at the end of the day.

The lesson here is. Don't ever give Vintrict the benefit of the doubt.

At this point, like Deitric said...

I would like to inform people who don't know Vintrict as well of how terrible he is.

Sketchy Chinese food, always.

Gotta get your weekly intake of MSG.

Sketchy Chinese is #1.

And well, even for new folk, think of it this way. Why deny them a lesson?

There's two kinds of learner in this world, and we all deviate back & forth between the two types:

-Those who learn from others' wisdom.
-Those who must learn for themselves.

It's awesome when we can be the former, but I mean. C'mon. Tres designs crotch-sniffing wrestling techniques, most scrub level Gaians think the guy in your signature's ******** Lu Bu for all they know Darth, and I had somebody legitimately call Omi Twisted Fate because I had a pic with cards in my sig once.

Nobody really gives a ******** what we say. We're beating a dead horse. Vintrict's stalwart in his demands to suckle p***s, and as for us? We already know first-hand.

Everyone else who doesn't immediately see Vintrict's hilariously awesome antics as insanity, will in due time on their own. They won't heed what we say. We're fags.

Cool fags.

I mean I really shouldn't judge but the place is called The Wife's Kitchen, so I'm concerned about the mental state of anyone who believes that this is a good name for a resturant. But Chinese food........

I hate to admit it.

but this is true.

All we can do is hopefully be a better alternative to Vintrict's ridiculousness.

@Tres: Well yeah. 2012's HoH was my first foray running it, and while I feel glad about what I could accomplish, I learned a ridiculous amount.

Don't trust people to do things for you. Don't live with fellow judges. Prioritize dates over quality (to a realistic degree; still have baseline levels of quality.)

I'll be involved in the next nasty incarnation of 2013.

And I'll probably be involved in GTB VII sadly.

We've got nothing but room to grow as a community, even if it makes me sick to my stomach to watch some of this s**t sometimes. I'd still call that a net gain.
