Elisa nodded. "I'm fine," she said and slowly got to her feet. She was a bit off balance at first but was soon walking as usual. She looked around the room and dug into a secret compartment of the wardrobe before pulling out two small, blades about the length of her forearm with black ribbons hanging off them and a shorter trio sheathed in similar ribbon

"Got it," she said cheerfully, strapping the twin blades to her wrists and arm; her long wide sleeves covered them adequately. The trio of throwing knives--who shared the winged-star desgin-- she bound to her right leg, hidden under her dress, before putting her shoes back on. "Let's go," she muttered acerbically. half because she'd noticed that the fourth and fifth dagger of the set were missing, half because she was about to embark on a possibly dangerous mission.

"I just had an idea," Elias said, pulling away from the wall. "Assuming we're all in good health and capable of moving. What do we do? Find Elisa and my grandparents? How? And what about after that?

"We need a plan. This was supposed to be a prank, with only me and Elisa 'kidnapped' and friends armed with nerf guns and ski masks. This obviously isn't what was supposed to happen, and I have no clue what the new plan is." Well, aside that Rebecca was there...at least, I think she was. Elisa was screaming bloody murder as they dragged us through the passageways, so I couldn't tell exactly who anyone was...

He then noticed the clue book where it had fallen under the glass coffee table and picked it up before putting it back on the table with the pen. Clue book. That was smart. Now if only we could figure out they all are referring to. Speaking of which... He picked it back up and flipped through the few pages that were filled.

Karin's eyes widened at the designs she saw on the blades Elisa was carrying. "One moment, where did you get those daggers? One of my old daggers that was thrown into a friend's back had the same design carved on it. I'm holding on to the dagger for now." Karin pulled out the ivory-handled dagger for Elisa to inspect.

"Your old daggers?" Elisa asked, scrutinizing the dagger that Karin held out. She pulled out one of her own and noticed that they were very similar. "I don't know. Grandfather said he purchased these from an old friend as a part of his weaponry collection."

She rambled on, seeing as Karin was interested. "Elias can't throw them straight at all even though he has better aim than me. The balance on them is weird and everything, but for some reason I can aim fine with them. Usually my aim is curved and really off, but for some reason I could use them so he left them in here so in case the family was ever trapped in the house I would have a weapon I can use."

She quieted and peered at the symbol. "Do you know what the symbol means? I just think it's pretty." It's so...lonely. So unlike me but so very interesting.

Elisa compared the two blades and noticed the R.R. on the base of the one Karin had. "What's this? Did you carve something in here?" She peered closer at it and thought she saw a lighter scratch but decided it was just the dirt on her hands and her eyes playing tricks on her.

"Why is it so light?" she then complained, tossing it lightly up and down stopping only to examine the elongated crack. "Did you break it open or something?"

"Yes, there was something inside the dagger so I took it out. It's been stolen though. Mr. Gilfax bought this set? From who? I had a set like these but it was destroyed after a new set was made and only the Academy smiths can create these things." Karin asked, really curious now, So, Elisa is also a freak of nature. Can't throw regular daggers just like me before I learned. But how did this set of daggers appear? The smith that made mine died a while ago.

Elisa pondered her question. "I can't remember the guy's name, but I remember his face. Let's get to the study so Aura can work on her stuff and so I can show you the guy in the contact book.

"It probably wasn't the same guy," she said thoughtfully. "I know he came from your school--the Spy Academy--but I don't know the details. I remember..." she thought hard, digging into memories she didn't think she'd ever recall. "...Grandfather got this letter thing with it that had a picture of the dagger. I didn't read it though. It's probably in the study; I'll find it and show you."

She poked her head out cautiously and determined it was safe. "Let's go!"

After racing across the hall to the study and inputing a code to reveal the keyhole, she noticed an awkward shadow next to Elias's room. Strange. Looks like a bird. But we don't have bird statues here. Maybe someone moved some stuff. She shook her head to clear her mind and whispered to Karin, "What was in the dagger?" Who hides stuff in daggers anyways? No one's that crazy.

"A metallic container. I never got to see what was actually in the container because someone took it before I ever got to open it. There was a poem on there that I decoded though." Karin responded tensely, she had seen the shadow and was unwilling to be caught off guard.

Aura slipped after them and unlocked the door with the key, seeing the unusual shadow but not perceiving it as unusual. She ducked inside the study and waited for Karin and Elisa to sneak in before shutting the door.

"Look for clues," she instructed quietly though more relaxed now that they were safely in the study. "I'll going to see what I can do about the dumb cameras."

She crossed over to the far side of the grand study and brushed aside a curtain and flipped a fake bookcase on the wall, revealing a piece of wall. After painstakingly identifying the location of the various miniscule buttons and pressing them, she was greeted by a keypad. Should be the same as all the other electronic passkeys, she mused and input the key. A whirring sounded and the panel opened to reveal the main control panel of the house.

She dragged a small bench over and began looking for a way to jam the video and audio feeds of the cameras, hoping Mark was wrong about the complexity of the task.

Karin smacked her head against something, flinching, she looked at what the obstacle was. That's weird, I don't remember this here... She unhooked the tiny bird cage from the ceiling, noting with interest the various objects hanging from the bottom of the cage. The glass globe was what Karin had run into, "By any chance, did Mr. Gilfax ever have a songbird? Because if he did, it's something new to me. He's never asked me to help with a bird before." Then she noticed the strange carving on the floor of the cage, GREEK?! Why this ancient language? Oh, never mind, might as well decode it... Karin drew up all she learned about the language and set about making it into English, Depend on an aisle to lead you out. "How do all these clues come together to make sense?" Karin muttered to herself, thinking of the four poems that they had found since they were trapped in the mansion.

"Clues?" She asked Aura but quieted to let her friend work. "Which clues?" she brought up again when Karin spoke. "Oh. I left a few because this was supposed to be a Halloween prank.

"...huh. That's weird. I can't remember anything. Talking to Elias, passing notes, telling him to clues, reorganizing my doll collection, and then bam. Nothing. That's really weird."

She thought for a while longer before walking around, looking for anything out of the ordinary. "What other clues did you find?" she asked Karin, looking down the bookcases.

"I'm looking for something that would make more sense..." Karin muttered as an answer to Elisa, too deeply absorbed in the cage to give a more detailed response. As Karin farther inspected the bird cage, she decided to take a look at the hook it was hanging from. She started when she noticed that there were arrows lightly carved on the ceiling pointing to the hook, so did that mean there were more clues on the bird cage? She took a close look at the ornaments hanging from the cage for the first time. There were only two things that Karin could make any sense of, Let's see...a spider and a crystal ball. Spider...that stands for treachery and death or a trickster. It has good meanings but I don't think it's trying to convey a positive thing especially in this situation. A crystal ball just means fortune-telling. So did he know someone was planning all this? Did Mr. Gilfax know this was coming? Is that why there are clues he tried to leave us everywhere?

((Most of what has been happening is with Karin and Aura upstairs. Alex, Mark, and Elias are all still at the dining area. Aura and Karin have rescued Elisa and are in Mr. Gilfax's study right now.))

Elias set the clue-book aside and resumed staring out the window. Soon, he fell asleep.

After watching Karin and Aura at their work for a few minutes, Elisa bounced over to the desk and rummaged through her grandfather's notes. "Electric bill, water bill, house bill, property tax," she scowled, muttering to herself quietly. "bank statement, another back statement, receipts from last month--hey Karin you want to check this out? Maybe you could find a receipt for the cage and items in it? I didn't know he had a bird either.

"Letters... and more letters," she abandoned the drawer, leaving the letters on the desk and wandered around the bookcases that lined the walls. "Hey, why's the dictionary here? It's so far from his desk." And he always said to keep a dictionary at hand... and the last time I was here, I don't think this was here either. She returned to the desk and found no dictionary on the desk, only a bunch of pamphlets advertising various countries. There were a few copies of Romeo and Juliet on the small bookcase but no dictionary, thesaurus or other reference book.

"Where's the contact book?" she mused, returning to where the dictionary was. "And why they heck does he have Romeo and Juliet on the desk-side bookcase? He hates Romeo and Juliet. All the other plays are fine, but he loathes Romeo and Juliet. And why is the dictionary over here?"

Elisa scrutinized the offending book and pulled it out with a huff. She looked around and set it on the other side of the room, where an abandoned cushion lay. The other books in the shelf were also removed and placed on top of the dictionary. When all the books were out and the books piled on the dusty cushion, a creaking noise sounded and the back panel of the shelf lifted a miniscule distance.

"Karin? Would this count as a clue?" she asked, lifting the fake backboard more so that it showed a black screen with white writing on it in a foreign code.

"Why does he always write in some ancient language in his study? This time it's Latin last time it was Greek... usually he writes in some code not a language." Karin commented dryly, noticing words written on the board, Great, more recalling of some wacko language that has long died out. Oh, well, I needed to review these things anyway... She decoded the writing quickly and said, "It's nothing that important for right now, just a combination of the names of cities written in Latin. I'll keep the names in mind though." She sorted through the pile of receipts, Ah! Here's the receipt for the bird cage and such, but there isn't the purchase of a bird anywhere...so what was the cage for? Just a decoration? Or did he specifically buy it for disguising a clue?
