Marshall inwardly winced. He figured on that though..he'd never had a poker face. Oh well..he thought. He turned his thoughts back to his goal, and that was to find his brother. The only problem was, he didn't remember his brother's first name, only the last and that he was a sailor. And the last bit he'd only just recently found out. "Well, um..I actually only know his last name." he said quietly, turning his gaze away to look at the castle. "They said--well, I only heard really, that he might be at the place called 'the Haven'." He gave himself a mental shake, chiding himself for being nervous. He had no need for nervousness now. He had every right to seek out his only other family, right? It wasn't anyone else's business. He returned his gaze to the man again, looking him squarely in the eyes. "They call him Captain McKay in most of the ports. I know he sails a ship and that the ship has gold lettering on the starboard side."

If anything, the words had managed to shock Seth, but only for a moment. In that moment his smile faded and he took another study of the boy. Scrawny, doesn't get enough to eat, had it rough most likely...he thought quietly. But his eyes were scanning fro a threat, not grown yet, lanky but there's some muscle there...doesn't lie well though...hmm. Taking a step toward the boy, he tilted his head to one side. "Aye...I might have seen the boat before. The Golden Dragon...what do you want with Captain?" he asked, his voice void of anything. If anything he had fallen into his old mannerisms, and stood with his legs braced apart, ready for a fight...even if it was a kid. You learned real quick in the streets never to trust a kid...no matter how young they seem.

Marshall noted the stance and went on the defensive, taking a small step back. He lifted his chin defiantly, clenching his jaw for a moment. "That's none of your business, Mister." he said guardedly. "Either you know him, or you don't. Simple as that." He wasn't going to give an inch either. He was glad to know what the lettering on the boat said though. It gave him one more piece of information, just in case this turned out to be a dead end. He really hoped it wasn't though. He really wanted to throw himself into some water for a while. He'd not been able to for several days now. It never ceased to amaze him how much he really loved the water and how badly he missed it, even if he'd only just left it. His mother had told him that it was because he was born of the water. He'd never really understood that and she'd been too absent in the mind to tell him. Turning his mind off of that, he focused again, knowing that to be caught off guard could very well mean his death.

"Oh I know the man well enough...and I ask you again, what do you want with him?" he asked not letting up on his stance. What the hell would this grimy street urchin want with me? he wandered. He hadn't seen the kid before, it wasn't one of the few that he hired when he needed info...no it seemed a bit more personal than that. "Since you've already proved yourself to be a poor liar, we shall have to see what your response is. And before you think to tell me off...if I don't get some kind of an answer, good luck ever seeing him kid." he threatened softly anticipating the boys instinctive reaction.

Sheesh! Who is this guy? McKay's bodyguard or something? Marshall scowled at the man, disliking that he was being interrogated. :He's a demon of some sort.: Bella said quietly into his mind. He glanced down at her, his eyes wide for a moment. "Really?" he asked aloud before he could stop himself. She only gave him a slight bob of her head. Looking back up at the man, he started to feel the fear creep into his system. He hadn't thought the village people were serious about the demon thing. They'd told him all kinds of things, mostly tall tales, to try and persuade him to give up and go home. He'd figured that to be just another lie. He took another step back, placing his foot carefully in the grass this time so that he didn't lose his footing. He knew that if it came to running, he'd never stand a chance in the tall grasses. But he could probably use that nifty water trick he'd learned. Provided he had enough time to. Taking a deep breath, he shifted his stance into one designed for quick flight. "Not that it's any of your god damn business, but I want to talk to him." he said, letting the slight anger he felt trickle into his tone. "Either you introduce me, or I'll go find him myself."

Seth watched the boy closely for a moment and though he knew the teen was poised to run at the slightest threat. Forcing his own muscles to relax at his explanation he sighed. The kid didn't seem to be lying. "All right...consider yourself introduced. Now what do you want?" he asked quietly, knowing that it would probably take a minute for the kid to process what he meant.

It actually dawned on Marshall as soon as he heard the guy say the words. He fought back the urge to yell at the man for leading him on like that. Instead, he corrected his stance, shifting back into a regular defensive position. He'd learned the hard way that you couldn't trust anyone, no matter who they were, or claimed to be. He took the opportunity to look the man over again, this time in an assessing manner. He didn't think they looked much alike. This guy was fit and built like a--Marshall didn't even know ow describe him. But in his mind, this guy couldn't be his brother. "How do I know you aren't trying to trick me or something?" he asked carefully, keeping his guard up, just in case this really was one of those flesh eating monsters.

Shaking his head in amusement, Seth sighed, but again rolled his sore shoulder. Hell he couldn't really blame the kid for being cautious. After all, he would have been the same way. "I suppose I can have someone else vouch for me, but I highly doubt that will convince you. My name is Seth actually...Seth Mckay. And I Captain the Golden Dragon. Only a very select few people know that I come here," he continued without a pause, "and I am curious to know how you were able to get that information." His voice once again held that hard edge..crossing any demon was never a good idea.

Marshall wondered for a moment if he should share his name with Seth or not. He knew that if he told Seth how he'd gotten that information, the person responsible for it would be in serious trouble. "I sort of, erm, overheard.." he said quietly. That wasn't all the way true, he'd started the conversation. But the guy had been pretty drunk, so it had been easy to simply get him started on the right path, then just listen as he rambled. "But that doesn't matter." He quickly went on. "My name is Marshall Anderson. My mum talked about you a lot..said you were her son. If that's true, that'd make us brothers..I guess." At his feet, Bella put a paw on his shin, meowing softly. Without thought, he reached down and scooped her up, cradling her against his chest. "Sorry about Bells here.." he added, remembering that the cat had hissed at him. "She doesn't like demons very much."

Seth watched the kid in amusement..not believing a word he said for a moment..at first. When he couldn't detect a lie in the kids voice he looked over him again. They didn't look too much alike..except the build, though the kid had more growing to do, and the hair. Talon let out another echoing cry and swooped down to land on the arm that his master held out to him out of habit. :He is a water dragon demon as you are...and Jay had no knowledge of you...it could be true Seth: Having just started to come to that realization himself, Seth sighed once more and reached out to stroke the falcons feathers. Could it be true, he wondered? And God if it was what the hell was he supposed to do with the kid. Studying the cat for a moment after hearing the kids next sentence he smiled slightly, one eyebrow lifting in question as he spoke. "If it doesn't like demons...why the hell is it so content in your arms?" he asked.

Marshall frowned. "'It' is a she and she has a name, you know." he said sourly. "And she is content here in my arms because I'm not a demon." Looking off toward the castle, he narrowed his eyes slightly. "Are there really monsters in there that eat the flesh of humans?" He tried not to sounds too curious, but the truth was, he was thrilled at the prospect of seeing such a thing. As long as he wasn't the one being munched, of course. Or Bella..he couldn't even think of what he'd do without her.

Seth laughed, he couldn't help it, the kid had the strangest damn notions. "No..there are no flesh eating monsters in the castle, and the hell you aren't a demon. It radiates from you, it's one of the reason I'm even somewhat inclined to believe you as there are not that many demons of my kind out there." he answered, ignoring the teens fuss about the animal. "You had better watch her though...as Talon, might eat her." he added, lifting the falcon up slightly. Talon turned his head and eyed the cat with one brilliant gold eye. He looked over the boy before lifting his head to look back at the sky. :I would do no such thing...stop trying to frighten the boy. Come, you know you will have to take him to the Haven until we get this sorted out.: With that he lifted his wings and beat them strongly several times, rising into the air with little effort, he glided for the ark, looming presence of the castle in the distance.

Marshall watched Seth laugh at him, wondering how the man had drawn such a conclusion. There was no way he could be a demon..it wasn't possible. His mother hadn't been a demon. She'd just been a bit crazy. But she'd never done anything strange or demon like while he'd been around. Maybe Seth was crazy too..that was possible. He didn't want to make too many assumptions yet though. Hugging Bella slightly closer, he gave Seth a glare. "I'll fry that bird up for dinner if he eats my Bella." he warned, his face serious. Bella was all he really had in the world. She never said he wasn't good enough, or told him he'd never amount to anything..and she'd always been there for him, even when his own mother was too out of it to be. She'd even helped him get out of trouble a few times. Swinging his gaze upward, he watched the falcon. He honestly doubted he could even catch that bird, not without losing an eye..or his face..or a few fingers. Birds weren't really his dish anyway. He much preferred fish and such. "And besides that, I think I would know if I were a demon, don't you? I mean, wouldn't I have some other form I could take or something?"

Seth watched the kid with careful eyes now, all traces of amusement gone. He was studying the boy curiously, wondering how he couldn't sense his own power. Seeing his fear, he sighed and rubbed a hand over his forehead. "Relax kid, I was only teasing, Talon wouldn't hurt her and I wouldn't let him even if he wanted to." Looking around the plains he drew in a deep breath, unsure of how the hell he was supposed to deal with this. If the kid was his brother in any sense then he probably hadn't had it easy...hell he had street written all over him. So did I, he thought ruefully, remembering when he had wandered onto the Haven and into the arms of Lucid. And he kept me, he thought now, just like that. Brother or not, I don't see any reason why we can't do the same for this kid...give him a chance to be more than a petty thief. "We can talk about it later...come on kid..uhh." he thought for a moment, struggling to remember the teens name. "Marshall was it? We'll get some food in you for now. A hot bath, and a bed would probably do you some good as well. Time enough to deal with other bullshit." he spoke softly and after studying the boy one last time he turned and began to move swiftly through the grass toward the Haven.

Marshall watched him go, then looked down at Bella. "What do you think?" he asked quietly. He actually barely whispered it, because he wasn't quite sure how good a demon's hearing was. Bella looked up at him, then yawned. :A bath and bed both sound very nice right now.: she said, flicking her tail. :Besides, weren't you just saying to me that you wished for some water?: "Well, yes, but do you think it's safe?" he asked. :If it isn't, we'll both know very soon, won't we? And would it be any safer out here in all of this grass?: He shook his head at that. She had a point. If Seth had wished him dead, this area was great for it..the grass made it nearly impossible to run fast. And even in chameleon mode, there'd be a tale tell sign that he was there, because the grass would be bowed around him instead of standing naturally. Heaving a small sigh, he gave in and followed the demon, headed toward the large, foreboding castle.
