Kaegan shoved his hands into worn jean pockets, quirking a brow upward simply. "You just don't strike me as the melee type," he said simply. It wasn't meant to be derogatory- just a stated fact. "I like to protect talent where it lies, and yours doesn't lie in a dirt ring the way it does with Isiah." He shrugged, the thumbs outside of his pockets stroking back and forth on the stitching.

Bornes exhaled through his nose loudly. What Kaegan said was true, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt.
He waited, thinking his answer over as he watched the other go from dominant to submissive. Why was he acting like that? Bornes shifted his weight and tilted his head slightly. He then corrected himself, standing back up straight and uncrossing his arms.
"I will do it if your offer is sincere. But to me your body language says you are doing this as a favor. I don't want to be a burden to you."

Kaegan paused. He wasn't a good liar, so he wasn't about to try to keep this one going. "I want to thank you. For bringing Isiah back. I know I didn't do it alone. And maybe you didn't have much to do with it-" he added quickly. "But thank you nonetheless. You start whenever you're comfortable."

Bornes tossed his left hand, as if the effort was nothing. "You're welcome, I suppose. I would've preferred he had not shaved his head, however."
He turned back to the bucket of water he had been neglecting, placing his hand on it, as if afraid it would topple. He turned back to Kaegan for a moment to deliver the line, "Just tell me what to do," followed by bringing the bucket to his mouth and taking a few needed gulps, his tail waving idly as he did so as his thirst was quenched.
When he was done, he wiped his mouth on his black sleeve. "Just try to lay off the werewolf jokes," he stated as he hung up the bucket to its proper place. "I only did that for the kid."

Kaegan chuckled lightly, shaking his head back and forth. "I haven't made much mention to anyone else. I figure it's self explanatory." He shrugged. "I'll get you a lead for tomorrow night if you'll take it." He headed back toward his domicile, pushing Tsurai back into their home.
By then Isiah had cooled off, wandering into their home to find it empty. He sighed, figuring he should find him first before he settled in to sleep. He wandered back up toward the well, finding Q there. He stood about twenty feet off, dumbly, not sure what to say or how to say it, hands limp at his sides.

"I will," he replied quickly, watching Kaegan leave and usher Tsurai with him.
The hybrid's curiosity was piqued about that boy. Perhaps he'd ask about it later. After Kaegan and Tsurai had disappeared into their home, Bornes looked toward the well, again, as if distrusting it.
Then, he changed his mind and lowered the bucket again, getting another bit of water. It was on the way back up when he noticed Isiah standing nearby. Bornes gave a small look his way, but decided to ignore him as well. Isiah was standing rather far off, and after what had just happened...
Well, they both needed their space, he supposed. He took another drink of the murky water. It tasted of dirt, but it was better than nothing. Bornes was figuring this mud slosh was going to be his breakfast lunch and dinner for a while.
He again put up the bucket and again glanced toward Isiah. Bornes stretched his tail out and his arms above his head, fingers interlocked. He'd already taken a walk earlier, but there was no harm taking another one.
The hybrid lowered his arms and turned his back toward Isiah, walking to the other edge of town. Isiah could follow if he wanted, but for now, Bornes would pretend he hadn't noticed the other man was there.

Isiah watched him start to walk away and wondered whether to follow or not- but.. it couldn't be safe for him to just wander around like that. He jogged after him to catch pace, wordlessly, shoving his hands into his pockets, avoiding eye contact as best he could.

Bornes put his thumbs in his pockets, allowing the rest of his fingers to be free as he walked. His head didn't turn as Isiah jogged up. In fact, Bornes looked upward instead and gave a silent yawn.
Once he reached the edge of town, Bornes took a right turn, and had figured he ought to break the silence. "Kaegan offered me a job as a scout for food," he said blandly. Dry conversation.
This time, Bornes didn't want to be the chatty cathy. He didn't want to talk about how crappy he was with relationships anymore. He wanted to collect his shreds of dignity and somehow pull them back together.

"Well.." he offered back just as dryly. "That's... good, right?" He felt just as awkward and stupid, his posture stiff as he walked beside him. "That simplifies things for you, doesn't it?"

Bornes watched his scuffed boots as they walked along the edge between civilization and devastation. He stuck both hands in his pockets fully, the left grasping the cigarette packet inside. He wished he had his gun back. He missed it.
"I suppose," he stated, looking ahead of him, then toward Isiah. Bornes' green orbs eyed the tattoo on his scalp, studying it more heavily for the first time. He knew what is symbolized, and it should've been disgusting. It was oddly intricate in its simplicity.
Bornes found himself embarrassed by staring at it too much and focused more on where he was going- he managed to turn his head right before he came across a rock that jutted up. One which he would've tripped over if he had kept staring. Since he'd saved himself, he stepped over it with grace instead.
All they had been doing was walking for so much time. Bornes would've figured he'd become tired of it by now. Instead he felt himself becoming antsy. The same had happened in the vault, but he managed to satiate himself with that book.
"I haven't eaten in a while. Do we have any food left? I couldn't find the duffelbag," he brought up. Better to stay with business. Keep his personal thoughts to himself, before Isiah could say anything otherwise.
It was inevitable, though. They were going to end up sleeping together. In the same room. He groaned inwardly. Too soon, he could hear his subconscious peanut gallery moan.

Isiah grunted, inwardly, searching his memory for a time before he recalled. "Yeah," he mumbled. "I hid it. When we go back I'll show you where. I figure you and I could use a meal anyway." He turned his head away. He knew his diet was about to drastically change. He'd lost.. well, muscle mass, during his stay in the vault. It certainly didn't look it but at his peak he had been harder, sharper, faster, and he was going to need that now, more than ever.

At the answer, Bornes slowed his pace down so he began to lag behind Isiah. "Lead the way, then," he replied, eager to have a meal.

Isiah shrugged, turning on his heel to head back toward the other end of the settlement. He passed their little home, back to where he had moped upon their arrival, to a dead tree. He grunted as he climbed up the trunk, shimmying up to it's strong branches, the tree creaking before he tossed the duffel, hidden in dead brush, to the ground, brushing his hands off. "Guess we don't have to worry about too much of that now.."

Bornes stepped forward and unzipped the bag once it was dropped, after watching Isiah expertly climb that tree. He had quirked a brow, but of course... Food was more important, and his attention had been diverted as he anxiously went through cans. He picked the first one, not caring what it was.
Cream of corn. Wonderful. He looked toward Isiah. "the knife?" he asked. He wondered if Isiah still distrusted him with it. Bornes should really get his own..

Isiah paused as he scrambled back down the trunk, brushing himself off as the question was posed. He paused a moment, thinking back to when he used it last- he rubbed his head at the thought and his bare scalp reminded him. "Back home," he grumbled. "Come on." He picked up the duffel, zipping it up before trudging back toward their domicile.
