Thank you Tut for looking it up. I dont think Neighborhood would work for us at all... We want a much larger group of rpers not just friends or family-ish ones. The university/school seems like the way to go out of the two, and honestly we can work with that more than the other. I think we can still implement everything we are discussing here and throw it together to make a good rp. I do like the thought of there not being any serious quests in the university forum, i think that will appeal to people that dont necessarily want to do or be on a quest/mission all the time. It opens it up, says we are welcome to everyone really. And we are ultimately giving everyone a chance to be part of the group in one way or another. It makes it a lot easier to determine who we want in missions and which people would be serious enough to keep around. I think it will help us weed out the rpers we dont want with ease, theres more control with it. Im not sure what else we could do honestly. Gaia is a limited pool and if we want an active rp we need to open it up to something that is commonly accepted but still has what we want in it. We can do our rp in another forum while using the idea of the Academy to pull people in.

Might be the way to go. Again I'll still toss the vote for having missions run out of 'throw away' threads in invitation only. But wouldn't matter if we can keep a stable team moving along combat wise.

I'm also not too keen on the invite only thing, as with any mission in real world or otherwise, random people might just show up. Plus, there's actually a sub-forum just for invite only type RP's.

I'm just confused as to why you guys are hung up on the threads
do they seriously clamp down on that stuff if the RP is not to the letter?
or are you guys saying these things with the thought in mind of who sees the thread and who would be attracted to it? because the moderators should be the last thing on our minds atm, and whoever sees/attracted to it should be first
I don't think I agree with the invitation-only forum, but, it depends, idk

but, ok, h/o
let me explain what I'm thinking 1. let's say we make a thread in the university forum, and it's the ruins of the main dojo basically
and that's where our characters are when not on missions I guess (eh, idk, still don't really like that if it's not done right)
2. then we make a thread in barton that's meant for missions and things that progress our characters' strengths
3. At first I wanted this to be one thread, with the characters' profiles in the 2nd post and the application with it to fill out and etc. (which would now be put in the mission thread? or are there going to be separate threads for each mission done? which if that's the case, then the profiles might as well be in the guild with the link of it in the forum, so you're not constantly updating old mission threads with people's profiles in it), but
I see why you're suggesting the two threads though, in case the mission one gets put on hold for a little because someone went to bed and then you go RP in the dojo university thread (again, I don't particularly like this, but I guess it can work, is that what your original thought was specifically, H4X?).
4. Also, if we make the mission thread in the invitation-only forum, no one is going to read it/be interested in it, right?
I'm assuming the only people who are looking at the invite-only threads are the ones who are interested in their own threads right? (I'm actually asking, I'm not sure, because depending on the answer, invite-only thread might be a good idea for the mission thread if it attracts better RPers)
If good RPers are the ones, who a majority of the time, look in the invite-only forum, then we should do that for the missions and include a profile skeleton in the mule's first posts
side note: the reason why I said I don't like the university thread if it's not done right, is because, if the DM does go to bed, and characters 1,2,3 are in the middle of fighting in the mission thread, and then go back to the university thread as if it didn't happen (until the DM comes back), that's weird and confusing isn't it? especially if characters 4 and 5 are in the middle of talking to each other when 1,2,3 suddenly start RPing/coming back to the university thread while the mission thread is still going on

Threads are good in that it will attract more people to join in. There are some people out there who will also report a thread in the wrong forum, which is why I said we need to tailor it properly.

but what kind of RPers it will attract depends on the forum it's in (to a degree ofc)

At this point, from what was pointed out, i dont think we are going to get the RPers you may be expecting? I guess i should ask what exactly you expect? Or we expect? I just want rpers that would be active and at least a bit literate lol ones interested in our rp which i would suspect if they read the first post and join then they would be all of these things.

Honestly every type of RPer looks in all sorts of threads. If you cover two thread areas you'll be catching enough eyes as is to get a few here and there. As for profiles what we d in form communities is you link to a profile thread that either the players or the mod posts the accepted profiles into. These threads are normally put into the 'Test Forum.' http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/test-forum/f.8/
Then you can just have the link to profiles on the intro put, and then have the profile and reserve layouts on the second post. Seeing as even if you place it in the wrong area, the worst that will happen is that the mod will just move it, how about we switch modes to profiles and how we're going to have that layout? I would suggest not making it very hefty; if they want to make itbig, they can do it themselves, but we don't need to intimidate someone with a bunch of little questions that coul be answered in one big one.
I.E. Let's not ask hair color, eye color, height, weight, mutilations, tattoos, butt size, puke color, etc. all separately. Just as for appearance and maybe height / weight separately.
Bio I would suggest a minimum of 2-3 short paragraphs. Trust me, they always write more.
Strengths, Moderates, Weaknesses -- we should make an example list for these as well so that people don't get stuck thinking so much and can pick a few and think up a few of their own if they want.
Figure out if it's anime pictures, or if it's real pictures. ******** everyone will ask if you don't specify or have enough examples to make it blatantly obvious. xDDD

My vote would be that drawings/Anime pictures are alright. But with a no Naruto based character clause xp IDK about other disallowing other ninja anime series reference pictures since I figure other people probably don't have a huge stash of character pictures.

Description of character: Give us some details. Ex: how tall they are, fat/muscular/skinny/etc., identifiers like scars/tattoos, details! Details! Quirks: Do they have a pet peeve (something that just irks them)? Let us know Background: Tell us about your character's history a little. No need to go in-depth, and no linking to some long drawn out post with the details. Picture: Just a link to it is fine, preferably a custom art piece or one not from an anime

I was expecting RPers like us, not just literate
but beggars can't be choosers, and we're not in control of who sees our thread, so I guess my worry is a moot point idk
as for the profile, a majority of it will be the character's roll stats, and the basic things tutsumi just said as well
are we still agreed that they'll roll for their starting stats?
and just to update you Fen, what we were talking about before was to do a random number gen basically, maybe 7 numbers, and you allocate the #'s to 7 stats for example
and as we go along, you might find a new weapon or headband that gives +1 to a certain stat or w/e
there isn't a leveling system exactly, it's really what the DM decides who should get rewarded based off of what happened in the mission
and this is where we should discuss what stats there would be (if it's even agreed upon)
