Sighing deeply, Sherith nodded her head towards Veiris. Accepting his words with a rueful smile, she says, "Still, it wasn't very polite of me, and it had the potential to put people in an uncomfortable situation, which wasn't my intention." Now that she's much calmer, it's clear that she has the capability of being well spoken. Probably from all those books she read. "I suppose I'm just not used to radical changes." It's just as well she missed his shifting also.

Veiris waved the waiter over. "A tea for the young lady. Something calming," he ordered. The waiter nodded and left.

The Shifter offered a smile in return. "Radical changes can be difficult for anyone to handle. It can be good to take a break; although, I do think this is not the best place to do so. Radical changes seem to be part of the decor," he looked around as he spoke, briefly glancing over the various customers in the tea house...or tavern, he realized. He didn't see alcohol on the menu when he entered, but everyone else seemed to have located it just fine.

He wanted to keep talking with Claudette, hoping for a chance to ask her some questions once her curiosity about Shifters was satiated. Although, he was enjoying the opportunity to speak openly about it. He wasn't sure Sherith would be as accepting, even if she didn't react to the knot work tattoos that ran the length of his arms.

The young woman sometimes looks at the tattoos, but since she'd never seen any before, she didn't have an opinion. Eventually the tea arrives and she sips at it gratefully.

"Thank you. I was only given enough money for a single book, though I suppose if there's no books here to buy, it's not such a mean sum."

After taking a few sips of the tea, she sets the cup gently on the table. Extending a hand towards Veiris, she smiles faintly, though the expression doesn't reach her eyes; it's merely an affected curve of the lips.

"My memory is a little blurry from when I first got here, so if I'm being repetitive, I'm sorry. My name's Sheirth; if you said your name I'm afraid I've forgotten it already."

Even though she's a lot calmer now than she was previously, she doesn't seem to be very cheerful. Polite, yes, but there's a certain lack of enthusiasm to her words and demeanor. It's as if she's going through the motions because she thinks it's the right thing to do rather than for really caring about the situation in specific. Or perhaps going through these motions is the only way she can keep herself at all level-headed.

Claudette nodded, not really sure what to make of Veiris's explanation. It sounded like a nice feeling, but she wondered if Clerics were as bad as Immortals. Maybe it's better not to push it; Sherith had awakened again, and so Claudette decided it was better to just listen to whatever Sherith had to say.

Kira, on the other hand, exclaimed to Baldur, "The wedding is in three months, during the Harvest. It'll be so magical! You and Svana should come to it!"

The Immortal was feeling a little antsy without Claudette by her side, as she was supposed to be watching her like a hawk, and instead Claudette was sitting with a narcoleptic and a bird. She made a rude noise, and she lifted her hand.

Maybe it was time to teach Claudette and her new pals a little lesson.

Veiris took had hand and gave it a small shake. "I'm Veiris. We hadn't quite gotten around to it before you needed rest. I hope the tea is good. I'm not sure what they serve here, but if it's as good as their spice tea, I needn't worry," he said between sips of his own tea.

He looked back at Claudette, taking notice of her silence, but he couldn't tell if it was due to confusion or concern for Sherith's unknown opinion about magic. Or maybe he struck a nerve somehow, though he didn't see what nerve it may have been.

If she wasn't going to press it, he decided, he'd continue with the small talk. "What book were you looking for?" he asked, turning his attention once more to Sherith.

He didn't notice Kira look in their direction or raise her hand.

"Hear that? The wedding is in three months and we're invited," he exclaimed, smacking his hand across Svana's arm. She glared after it, well aware Baldur was egging her on.

Rising to the occasion, she said, "I know we're invited, she asked me to be the bride-thing and wear a pretty dress. Although I'm not sure if she would appreciate if you brought your werewolf. Is he allowed to bring his werewolf?" she asked Kira.

He gave a noncommittal noise in the back of his throat.

She picked at an unusual piece of fruit, trying to decide whether to sample it or not. "It's been a long time since I've been to a wedding. Our population in the swamp has remained unchanged for so long, no new blood in or out, all life mates were determined long ago," she mused. They assumed now that they had combined forces with the mountain elves that love would blossom again soon. It was a good thing they wrote down what knowledge they had on those kinds of ceremonies, because she honestly couldn't remember what went into them.

Claudette was curious about this question as well due to her own collection of books she had hidden away at home.

"Have you ever heard of a grimoire before?" Claudette asked her, but this was more to gauge Sherith's reaction to magic before asking Veiris about Clerics. She didn't want to panic the girl again, so she kept her tone light.

"Of course you can bring a werewolf," Kira laughed. "He can be a ring bearer! Svana can be a bridesmaid, and Baldur can be a groomsman."

Kira really liked her new friends, but their comfort level took a back seat when it came to Claudette. Sure, it'd be easier to just kill her, but Kira was having fun.

The tattoos on her arm glowed a sickly, yellow color, and a bolt of lightening struck the table Claudette was sitting at. Kira made sure it didn't obstruct anything; she just wanted to make her presence known again.

Claudette sighed. This was too often a tactic. She was more interested in Sherith's answer than some stupid game Kira wanted her to play, and since no one was hurt, she didn't worry too much.

"Pleased to meet you, Veiris; I wish it had been under better circumstances," Sherith says with a polite nod. "Yes, thank-you, the tea is quite nice. Actually, it's nicer than the kind I usually had at...home." Bringing up that word causes her throat to catch a little, but she valiantly smooths it under.

Hearing about someone getting married, she looks over to Kira. "Congratulations," she murmurs politely. Personally she knows little of romance, or marriages, but everything she has read indicates this is the proper response.

Turning back to Veiris, she goes on to say, "I wasn't looking for a particular book. I had read everything already available to me many times and I wanted something new. Usually one of my guardians would get new ones for me, but some of them were gone. Alris was the one who gave me the money and sent me on my way. I was just looking at the backs of the books, wondering which one I would try, when I was...interrupted."

Then she looks over to the elven woman. "What is it like, living in a swamp? I've only lived in a forest. Well, sort of."

She was about to say more when a bolt of SOMETHING hit her table. Obviously it couldn't be lightning since they were indoors. "How did you do that?" she asks with hushed awe, her eyes growing wide in her pale face. Well, if that doesn't give Claudette an idea of her ignorance when it came to magic, then perhaps nothing will. The girl seems completely, one hundred percent, startled and impressed.

Svana smacked Baldur's shoulder. "See? Even Vald can come along. I'm sure he'd love to be the ring bearer. I can be the bride-thing, you can be the groom-thing, we'll both wear pretty dresses, it'll be a great time," she declared, going along with it humorously.

Just then, Kira decided to throw some magic at Claudette again.

"Would you cut that out? You need to work on your people skills," she complained.

"I don't know, do you really want to tangle with a girl who throws around lightning?" Baldur muttered under his breath to her.

"I already did. She burned my stitches off, I hit her head into a counter and gutted her with my tomahawk. That's how we became friends. Keep up," she sighed impatiently.

Before he could ask for clarification, the girl who had fallen asleep addressed Svana, asking her about the swamp out of the blue. Shrugging, she nibbled at the fruit she was considering, finding it surprisingly tangy.

"It's hot and it's wet," she replied offhandedly.

Baldur chuckled curtly. "Kind of like your va--"

She full-out hit him in the center of his chest to cut him off. "Like you would even know."

Veiris listened to the young woman talk about books and reading. He enjoyed learning new things, an inevitable byproduct of traveling as he did, but he couldn't recall the last time he'd read a book. He learned by word of mouth, through stories told around the fire, and by chatting with any merchant, craftsman, or scholar he managed to travel with.

He was startled when a small bolt of lightning struck the table between them. While Serith was startled and Claudette seemed unphased, Veiris felt his griffin form pushing to come out. Lightning was the griffin's domain, and its pride reared up at the thought that someone would attack it with its own weapon. He felt his eyes shift before he stopped himself pulling them back form the eagle yellow to human brown.

"You continue to be poor company," he said dryly in Kira's direction but offered no other acknowledgment.

"Must be young love," Kira said dreamily, staring at Baldur and Svana. "It's settled. We'll have a double wedding."

"And excuse you," Kira snapped, "I do not have poor people skills. We're friends aren't we? Hear that, Claudette, she's my friend. And we can raise an army against you!"

"How is it possible that you're over three hundred years old, and you still have yet to graduate preschool?" Claudette snarled, fed up.

Her tone softened. At least Sherith didn't know anything about magic, so maybe she could talk to Veiris a little more. Instead, she said, "Kira is just throwing a tantrum. She has to do this every so often or she gets constipated. You were saying?"

"So," Kira said to Svana, "you feel like gutting someone other than me?"
PostPosted: Thu May 28, 2015 7:46 pm

Svana almost choked on another piece of food, swallowing a laugh. "Hear that, Baldur? It's young love. I hope you're ready for eternal commitment."

"How could I dare, when you're so obviously fated for Larus?" he lamented, slapping a hand over his heart. "I couldn't possibly accept, young miss. She already has her true love."

"If Larus heard you say that it would ruin your friendship," she sang.

"It's called self-preservation. My life far outweighs his."

As Kira and Claudette got out their claws, Svana seriously considered plundering Baldur. She doubted he submitted easily. It might actually be fun. That said, his cooperation would make it easier and given their relationship up to that point, she doubted she would ever get it. That was what rope and shackles were for...

At the mention of an army, Svana brightened. "Oh, I actually already have my army. And instead of wasting them on this foolhardy mission of Larus's, I would gladly lend them to your aid." She wouldn't, actually, but since this cafe was a portal and she doubted she could even get her army to whatever world Kira came from, there was no harm saying it.

"That depends on who I'm gutting and what's in it for me," she replied cheerfully.

It's probably a good thing that Sherith didn't hear all of what Baldur wanted to say about Svana's lady-parts. She comes across as the type who would be offended by such talk...if she even recognized the word. "Then it is quite different from the place I grew up in. It was usually only wet when it rained, in the spring and autumn, and it was only hot during a couple months in the summer."

She wasn't looking at Veiris when his eyes changed briefly, so she's spared dealing with that for now. Since he didn't ask her any further questions about her, she didn't continue to prattle on, not wanting to wear out his patience.

"Why would you want to raise an army?" asked Sherith innocently. "Is someone planning on attacking you?" She blinks at Claudette a few times. "I forgot," she admits a little sheepishly. "I'd never seen anyone do anything like that before," she adds, meaning Kira's magical tantrum. "And you say she can do that often?" Again her voice shows a great deal of awe in this matter.

Veiris found himself chuckling at the preschool comment. It was easy to see how Kira could easily play the role of a five-year old. Tantrum and all.

Even though he was laughing, the talk of armies and gutting still made him uncomfortable. He wanted to safety of the Shfit and the power that came with it- eyes that saw magic and power that threw lightning. But he held it back, trying to ignore the toddler-like Kira and focus on Claudette. He hoped if he didn't feed into Kira's flame she would die down again. Although, the elves were a concern of another matter. Too many people quick to fight, he thought.

Kira ignored the banter between Svana and her should-be betrothed, and she focused on that last question. Grinning hugely, she said, "Why not gut Claudette? Sure, I could do it, but where's the fun in that?"

Kira didn't mention the real reason behind her not killing Claudette on the spot, even though she very easily could.

Claudette replied to Sherith, "She's emotional, and she does things like that a lot. It used to bother me, but I'm used to it now."

Kira grabbed Sherith by the shoulders and said, "Oh, you like this sort of thing? Come, I can show you more! Let's talk about magic!"

Claudette rolled her eyes. Sherith wasn't in any real danger; Kira just liked to be fawned over. But at least it gave her an excuse to talk to Veiris.

"I hope you don't have to deal with Clerics like that?" She phrased it as a question, hoping for more details.
