Essentially, any familiar becomes a pet. Let's just keep it simple as that.
PostPosted: Sun May 03, 2015 1:29 pm

erm...theres a big difference between pets an familiars, main difference being familiars are usually connected the the owners soul and have an ability.

so for example would a familiar be an animal?
PostPosted: Sun May 03, 2015 3:02 pm

not all familiars are animals, some can be dolls or faries or ghosts.

I see, ok then, how about all familiars will be obtained like other items/weapons, by chance
is that cool

as for their mana pool, not even sure what the main classes' mana pools are like
EDIT: actually, when you dice roll for the profile, you'll be able to choose where your points go
so I guess when you find a familiar, and it chooses someone to follow, they would dice roll in their next post for how much mana it'd have

i vote for familiars being a go. Dice rolls seem like a nice way to even everything out, making it just chance in whether or not your character starts strong or not. Dms... I guess we need to actually see who wants to be a dm and who doesnt.

xp well this much I can say for sure. I'm not one wanting to be a D.M. again. Offline it works a bit better since people can question me or vice versa, and I admit that happens a lot. Though I've also had my plans there thwarted by a few peasant rail-guns

I would be up for being a DM but we still have a few more things to iron out

so, for the starting classes, they'll all have two trees to choose from once they reach a certain "level"
and this is what I had in mind, but please say something if you have a problem or want to add something

for most of these I listed the weapons but not what the trees do specifically

Ninja (mostly focused on intel gathering and being sneaky, this is actually very important) (not helpless in a fight, and can dodge most of the time)
-this tree will be even more focused on stealth and intel gathering?
-this tree will be support based? (blinding the enemy, smoke bomb to help team escape, hinder movement)
(idk about the support tree, I feel like they should be able to do that regardless)

Archer (medium ranged combat, bow and arrows) (will be slightly out of range of the enemy's attacks)
-crossbow and shield? (medium range combat with some defense) (will be slightly out of range of the enemy's attacks)
-long bow? (long range combat but no defense, maybe able to dodge?)

Mage (combat magic, healing magic)
-more combat based tree? (if they know a healing spell it'll be less effective and have a longer cooldown, like starting class mage)
-more healing based tree? (more potent healing magic, cure status ailments, maybe SLIGHTLY tankier than the combat tree?)

Swordsman (wields one sword, meant to be the tank or a bruiser)
-Knight (wields sword and shield or greatsword)
(meant for tanking for your teammates)
-Samurai? (wields longsword or can use two swords)
(more damage based swordsman, can't really tank that well but can still take hits)

Monk (gauntlets) (meant for close-quarter combat, can dodge attacks most of the time, can't really save teammates)
-Unarmed/gauntlets with fighting styles?
-polearm?
(I feel like the monk should be able to wield any of these weapons regardless of tree, but idk what the 2nd tree would be)

and be like
-ninja
this and that has to be changed

-archer
etc
so it'll be organized thoughts
U KNO HOW IT GOES

EDIT: thinking about adding spears to knight and monk

Ninja-
i agree that they should probably be able to do those things to begin with so how about making a different base? Maybe one be more focused on combat?

Archer-
being a person that does larp and such i know people with longbows most certainly have a short sword and or short sword training for the rare cases that a person gets to them. I dont agree with the no defense since logically irl people make sure they are prepared for battle but shields are probably not the best for this class. hrmmm dodge or some sort of speed skill?

Mage-
instead of it being healing why not just call it support based? with mage classes theres a range of skills we could do for them so we should narrow it down. Do we want them to be healers like priests or do we want them to be in tune with the elements? What elements?

Swordsman
Knight and samurai seem too close to be different trees..... Crusader maybe? We need something that incorporates the swordsmanship but is also different from each other. a knight protects, we need something that supports?

Monk
if we didnt do a healing tree for mages this is where i would put the healer aspect.

ok so i like the ideas you have but i guess in my person opinion when it comes to two different trees its either a support/group tree or a battle/solo tree. im trying not to overrun you with information

Alright, ok i knew i wouldnt be able to leave it at that....

Ive played a lot of different mages, seriously the mage class is one of my favorites so i have alot to say on mages lol. I think if we go elemental, which i believe we should, that we need to limit beginning mages to only 1 element and then as they grow or lvl they can have access to another. But i also believe that the mage class should only be able to wield 2 to 3 elements. Meaning they can grow and lvl to hell but at most they can only know skills for 2 or 3 elements. I think ive already said this but it keeps them from being overpowered.

i know games that have made healing trees using neutral or spiritual elements. With that they could possibly form barriers around their party, cure ailments and yes heal them. another good element for a support class may be wind which could give a speed bonus or increased dodge. But again i see these skills mostly in priests but its not impossible in a mage.

overall in games mages are normally the weaker characters. Maybe not in attacks but with defense because you can rarely be a support/defense mage and an attack/offense mage. Their attacks may be strong but rarely can they be strong and well protected by themselves. They need potions or tanks that take the blows, and most certainly gear.

So speaking of which, you could have a crafting class? Ones that make items or potions and another that makes weapons or gear. We do need to implement that as well, cant have people coming here with made up items that make them invisible....

ok great stuff
don't hold back with what's on your mind, dw about overloading with info, it's not like this is spoken outloud and can't be reviewed lol

I agree with everything you've said so far
but real quick, we need to make a foundation on how these classes advance into another class, like "ok this is how it's going to be for swordsman, can change into a knight etc" and then details after we finalize that (like the mage elements you're talking about)

so how do we go about organizing the classes? from the ground up, basics

1. do the starting classes "evolve" into their advanced class, and then get access to their support or combat tree?
for example, swordsman gets enough "exp" to advance into knight class, he now has access to support or combat tree (can only choose one)
(side note: just because you pick support tree doesn't mean you can't use a basic attacks known from your starting class)

2. or are there two advance classes to choose from, and then each adv. class has support or combat tree?
I'm basically saying same thing but there are two adv. classes to choose from
