Familiars are essentially pets that you may or may not have a spiritual connection with. Kinda like a witch and her cat.

Let's also not forget that ninjas are pretty much just assassins, ones that don't mind getting dirty or working in the night. They know a lot of different fighting styles, and use many different weapons. So a ninja can technically still be an archer, a swordsman, a wire/needle/trap/poison/pyro/etc. user. As odd as it sounds, I'd really suggest watching Ninja Scrolls, both the movie and the show. I think we should strive towards that, with hints towards using elements every once and again to build up on what the know physically (unless someone's specially a mana user).

EDIT: And I just saw you guys had posted that stuff. Sigh.
Again though, like I said, I started here as a swordsman and then worked into a mix and then more nin than anything. Everyone will need to work on their own weapon type, but here's the question. We train ninjas, what do we do with someone who wields an European longsword as the main weapon?

alright, cool beans

btw I agree with calling it mana actually, now that it's not just ninja, but it's w/e, not strictly enforced

UNLESS we have the different classes have different "mana pools" like ninja's would have chakra, mages mana, knights mana (idk what the point of that would be though off the top of my head, having different kinds of mana pools)

so that'd lead us to the different starting classes when you make your profile
ninja's would be one
archer (bow and arrow or crossbows)
swordsman (single or dual swords)
mage (this will have to be discussed a little more, I can see this class being OP over time)
knight (sword and shield, or giant sword?)

these are just obvious classes, any suggestions or changes?

EDIT: Tutsumi we're not an academy

Not saying we are, just that the classes should all fall under things ninjas do, kinda like a sub-class.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:13 pm

someone would already know how to use a long sword, they'd be a swordsman

anyways, another class would be hand to hand, monk?

So we allow people to come in with previous knowledge of weapons?

What I'm getting at is this:

Ninjas know how to shoot arrows - Archer (http://ninja.wikia.com/wiki/Bow_and_Arrow)
Ninjas carried swords - Swordsmen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDv--ZraIB4 | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NinjatÃ… wink
Fantasy brought mages into play - Mage
There was a time when ninjas used guns - Gunner (http://ninja.wikia.com/wiki/Arquebus)

http://entertheninja.com/ninja-fact/ninja-weapons/

There's many different styles of fighting as a ninja, weapons included. I believe we should focus on those.

We could also have two sides, one side hired by the GM/DM to be "evil" and the others who are fighting against them. Just a thought.

NarutoNineTails
The new characters should be good at fighting and archery and w/e else (fighting styles of IRL, basic fighting skills, no chakra yet? or don't know how to use chakra correctly)

yes, when you choose your class you have basic knowledge of how to fight already, because you'd probably be dead if you were roaming around and didn't know how to fight in this violent world
and we don't feel like wasting time going "uh how do I swing a sword, like this? oh"
the only things you'd be learning are advanced abilities down the class's tech tree, and your character's personality/attitude from start to finish

you can RP that you swung your sword in fkin, kenshin's half circle blade w/e, but you're still going to do 1 point of damage
so a person's special sword technique fighting still isn't going to affect how fighting goes unless it's a class ability that was used
(you could still RP that for fun I guess, fkin kenshin's half circle blade technique haha)

we can make two paths someone can go down when choosing abilities as they "level up" (I don't think we'll be using an exp system, it'll be based off of what the DM sees fit after the group beats a very difficult boss and who did the most and etc)
(which means bosses won't appear very often, and I guess events would be level up opportunities as well)
Also, the DM should consider small rewards even if the group cannot beat a boss and has to run away (depending)

I think each person should only be allowed to have one weapon and maybe a sub-weapon
Yes, this RP isn't just going to have ninja's only to choose from, correct, like I just posted

(this isn't complete, below --v)
-An archer would have a bow&arrow, and a small sword or knife (they wouldn't excel in using said sword or knife, because they spend their time mastering archery)
-Ninja's would have a sword and kunai (or shuriken)
-Swordsmen would have the choice between sword or dual swords, and idk what their sub-weapon would be
-Mages, haven't really thought about what weapon they'd use, read spells out of a book? lol
but their sub-weapon would be similar to an archer, something to defend themselves close-combat
-Monk use gauntlets, idk what their sub-weapon would be
-"Knight" use sword and shield (or giant sword) and sub-weapon idk

the starting weapons are not very important, but when we RP, we'll be finding new weapons and certain classes can't use another classes' weapon
the starting weapons for each class is to mostly classify what each class can and cannot use.
we might include bow&arrow for ninja class, but an archer would reap some kind of benefit more from using a bow&arrow than a ninja would
maybe aim's better

we're not going to have a ninja who goes amg i can uze swords, kunai's, shurikeens, and bow&arrows all masterfully when i literally just started out

hmm, that's an interesting thought though, about good/evil DM's
but idk about that
because if I'm the evil DM and Ishi is the good one, the moment one of us starts DMing you're going to know what's going to happen in general lol
and I feel like that takes away from the experience
but idk I still like that idea

Hello. I am Key far descendant of the Uchiha and the Hyuga. I do not have a eye but do not consider me weak. Anyways. One of your genin showed up and interfered with my training. I am the leader of the Swordsmen Under The 6. I will hunt you all down unless you agree to spar me in a towns. Alone. Just me and you. Or I will send several bounties on your guild members. See you."

I think we have a lot of good ideas floating around and a lot of questions so we should make certain what it is we ARE going to do. things we've all agreed upon, like a list of them. like how we are gonna have a dm or if we can have other sub-classes. just a bullet point preview of stuff we KNOW, so we dont have to argue or get confused anymore.

(ps. we explained what familiars were, but no questions were answered about having or using them in the rp.)

we are going to have a DM, definitely

but real quick, before we list stuff out
I forgot about the familiars, let's discuss that first
what did you have in mind that they would do exactly? since you brought it up

I'm asking for a familiar for the character I'm interested in making (if the dice roll right) mainly used for his mana based attacks so it's basically the same thing as another characters mana attacks except these just take the form of an animal. when not charged with energy he keeps the animal around as a pet. for others interested some uses of familiars include use as scouts, attackers, guides, they can be past ancestors, or a friend, even a a piece of you (horcrux tbh) or soul companion. now of course these abilities would be limited (around 2) and their power would come from the same dice roll system. (power added to the familiar could be subtracted from the owner as compensation)
I think it'd be a fun idea but I understand if you think this would be risky or un-ideal for the rp.

that does bring up the issue of enemies, should we have appointed people to play as the enemies and conspire with the dm on plans for up-coming challenges or battles? non-interactive enemies, just based on draining hp with attacks? or should we have two sides, who both think their righteous and have their own rivalries. they could have elected captains and opposing opinions on a common thing in our universe.

my first thought was that yea it is/seems a little OP, but maybe not
I think it can work out, but I think a familiar would have to be found, maybe, idk
need to think about it some more, but I'm for it, having an animal companion that would slightly help out

so would an eagle or something be considered a familiar?
