The hunchback lurched out of the portal, slowly blinking as the field came into focus... he knew this place... and the words whispering in his head only confirmed it. His stomach clenched, eyes scanning those rows of traps so far away... That was where they took him. Somewhere beyond that, they held his friends captive.

His Master...

Bracing himself, he hobbled into the field, eyes filled with an internal fire of revulsion.

He would save you, Master. He would save you, Calder. With his fists.

This time around, Jordan landed on his feet. Ferros wasn't shrieking in his head; instead the weapon was growling, ready to fight, hungry and eager and excited. There were monsters, monsters everywhere. Before this, before reality, before becoming a Hunter, he'd been afraid, helpless, able to see but incapable of resistance. Now? Now he could fight back.

A flash of too-familiar blue and orange caught his eye. They hadn't killed the fox-thing before. Time for another shot. Ferros roared gleeful and ravenous in Jordan's mind as he focused on Remi and swung. Too much chaos, too much adrenaline - Ferros's arc was wide, far too wide, and the dragon hissed displeasure and offended frustration as his weight threw Jordan's attack off, the human nearly falling, recovering only at the last moment in an ungraceful stumble.

I want to eat him, Ferros snarled, his feral need pushing at Jordan, demanding and insistent.

"I'm trying," Jordan growled back, barely aware that he was speaking aloud. "I'm going to ******** kill it."

And then, suddenly, Toby was on the battlefield.

... Or rather, she was standing some mockery of a "safe" zone in the midst of sudden chaos, the air so thick and full of electric human energy that she could barely keep her hooves planted. She really didn't know what had come over her, but it was hard to choke down as she watched, listened, observed. Mentions of a rehearsal, doing it properly, the ushering to go... There were bodies glowing red-hot in her sights on all sides like a flock of multicolored bees, and now-- now? What did she do? Restrain herself? Wait? Or--

"Remember, Iris-- stay." It was the last thing she told her beloved scareon at the start zone, and really, the only thing, before giving his face a last soft nudge and sliding the bag from her neck to sit beside him in waiting. Surely, he'd be safe there-- or at least, it was the safest she could hope for him.

And then, with a last great intake of breath, she did something that surprised even herself.

She reared up, let loose a sharp, bone-shuddering death whinny for the ages, and tore off, into the sea of madness that was most assuredly a battlefield. It was calling to her desperately, and some of them, oh, some of them looked absolutely wonderful in a way that felt hard to describe... but better sense (or perhaps propriety) kept her restrained as she galloped, a true killer unicorn, to...

... Well, kicking the daylights out of some inanimate thing (... trap) seemed like the most appropriate course of action. She was wild, fired up, and... well, maybe trying to keep herself busy with something that couldn't scream or bleed.

Because that was... um.

That was proper. Or something.

(Which was what she kept repeating to herself as a desperate mantra while hooves and parts were flying in all directions.) This was useful of her, right?

BATTLE STATUS: Disabling trap apparently!

One of Ariane's childhood dreams was about to come true - she was going to attack Godzilla. Or the spawn of Godzilla. Or the something of Godzilla. Either way, being a hunter had never been more rewarding as she spun Kintama around and tried to land a hit.

She felt like ultraman. Oh yeah.

Before let out an annoyed snort when the red Godzilla went and shielded the thing with seaweed. Huh. Were they like the kelpie and Private Ryan and had something together?

"Hey, lizard-breath, spare us the mushy s**t and don't go kissing your salty girlfriend," he yelled out before feeling the vibration of a message arriving. After reading the instructions, Before pressed accept.

She made a cross with her arms, winked and then took out her phone to click 'accept'.

She hoped she weirded Bul out.

Scaring a creature of the night in any way was also one of her childhood dreams. Awesome.

Simone found her mind reeling for a moment when she emerged out of Time and into this new place. She blinked up at the ghostly woman who addressed them, her brow furrowing slightly as she blinked. Rehearsed? This was rehearsed?! Never once did she get a memo or a text or anything about needing to rehearse something. But the call to battle was given, no matter her garb, it must be answered!

Lust turned to the field of battle with her head held high. Her classmates were out there! Some were trying to take out the traps across the way, others were taking on the Hunters. Inappropriate clothing be damned, she was going to try her damnedest to help them out! To fight! With practiced skill, she jogged out to join the fray, her long crimson red hair waving behind her.

THE TEXT MESSAGE:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

At first, it was just one phone, buzzing loudly. Then, a second, and then a third joined in chorus. Despite being in the literal reincarnation of a war zone, despite everything happening around them lightning-fast, when it came to instructions, the trainees had been conditioned.

It only took a few seconds, between scanning for possible signs of danger, for each Trainee to pull out their phone. The urgency in the message was unmistakable, and as Hunter trainees scanned around, seeing reinforcements scurry around the tent, the message became crystal clear. Fall back - teleport back - move away from their current location. Destroy the creatures in one spot.

That and, wasn't Caelius still in the tent? Sometimes, often, that man made no sense.

Yet by the time they relocated, it did not take them more than a second to understand something very unusual had happened to them. There was no time to act upon it now, but there would be plenty of questions later.

ALL HUNTERS

- TRAINEES HAVE BEEN ASKED BY CAELIUS (ordered) TO LOCATE THEMSELVES HERE. Please read the GM post (THE AMBUSH) before posting your reply. GOOD LUCK!
- The second you pull out of the Gauntlet Redux you are OUTSIDE of the "time pocket" again.

((actually rolling this time I swear))

When the new area came into view Mitsu instantly realized this new area....was an old area. They were back at the battlefields but strangely nothing looked as though it had changed. How odd. Not even the grass at their feet looked disturbed and the force field that had been broken was still in place.

Mitsu was still taking all this in when the soul harvester spoke up. So...they had gone back in time?? How was that...even possible? Still though Mitsu didn't want to hesitate this time. As Shun left her side to dart across the field she was close behind to follow. She had promised she wasn't going to leave his side and she hadn't. This time she had made it through the battlefield without any trouble, relying on her smaller sealed form to maneuver around people. She was starting to realize that while her bigger form had advantages so did her smaller form.

Once passed the chaos Mitsu took a moment to see what the others were doing. They were working on disabling things, it would probably be best if she helped.

Madison was so wound up that she jumped hard to the side when her cell phone buzzed against her side, nearly crashing into some random abomination or other. She stammered out "Sorry!" before sheathing one of her blades and pulling out the phone, reading the message.

They were needed - being called. The Hunter trainee looked over the battlefield with a faint sense of stubbornness, but disobeying orders was not something she wanted to do. Still, it would have been nice to have a chance...

She sheathed her other blade and pressed accept.

Like her teammates, Cass also hit 'accept' on the keypad of her phone and like it had been before, it seemed that it was time for the Hunter to pull one of their mystical vanishing acts.

Yes, Gamma Twelve poofed just as the others had.

Was the half beast surprised when the hunters began to attack HIM instead of Bea? Not a chance.

Wincing from the hit struck by Ariane, he wrapped his tail over himself momentarily then glanced back to Bea to see if she managed to heal quickly. Luckily, she did.

Before' comment was treated with a snort and a straightened up monster. He was certainly wrong about the erm.. girlfriend part but Bul was not going to let him see him sweat. He was a tough beast, and his actual ghoulfriend would be getting PLENTY of lovins (hey now, kisses!) when this was over.

Jerry wobbled on the battle field with an odd, dim sense of deja-vous. He still was not... entirely feeling himself, or perhaps he would have panicked more at the sight of countless monstrosities barreling towards him, but the hunter merely smiled faintly, hefting his cannon onto his shoulder to take aim. Before pulling the trigger at a particularly nasty looking lizard-like creature, he (thankfully for the creature in question) realized that buzzing was not part of his faint hum. It was the cell phone in his pocket.

Shoot or answer

Shoot or answer

His brain battled for some semblance of coherency before he numbly lifted the phone to see what was so important it was stopping him from making things go delightfully boom again.

Their Commander.... ah.

He hit accept.
