A Chance to Connect: 15 {James : Disney Castle : Balcony} James simply remained silent, pulling away slightly as he felt her finally relax. It was good, it meant to a large extent at least, he had said what he had intended to and what she had needed to hear. He could tell that each word he said had it's full meaning to her, and he was certain she wouldn't forget them, and if she did, he would gladly remind her again and again if he had to. He remained silent as she spoke, explaining how she felt about losing their home, that she had felt relieved to be starting over here. He had not been so different once, choosing to immerse himself in the fantasy world of Final Fantasy XI instead of his actual life. He could understand that all too well... and had been ashamed of it as well, this was on a far grander scale, but still the idea was the same. He saw now the truth behind Kyla, how lonely she had been, he had always been one to have and make new friends pretty easily, he had never really had the loneliness that she did, aside from the loneliness that he had imposed upon himself with his obsession. He could see it starting, tell that soon she would start to cry, Michelle had always said that it was good to do so, he wasn't going to stop her if she did and with one last silly confession she began to sob and the corsair pulled her close to him again. Since the corsair had married Michelle and matured a fair bit, he wasn't really one to cry much anymore. He was the stone wall of their family, the one who would support them both, and he would willingly be a stone wall for any others who needed him as such. As she cried, Carbuncle appeared and placed his front paws on the corsair's hand before nuzzling Kyla's face, much as a cat would for it's owner. He knew that well, his mom being a cat lover and growing up with two cats the great majority of his life. "I am sorry that you've had such a lonely life, I wish I could have done something about it then, but of course I didn't know you. I do now though, far better than before, and I am more than happy to call you a friend," he stated with a broad sincere smile.

[Kyla: Disney Castle: Balcony]
Kylas cried but not for too long. Enough that the tension began to leave her body, enough that though her face was now a puffy mess with tear streaks and ink smudges- she looked somehow cleaner. Michelle was right.
Kyla had cried a lone- and while it helped it wasn’t the same as having ones sorrows acknowledged, accepted and ultimately let go. When she finally felt she had no more, she did notice her chest didn’t feel as heavy, and her back wasn’t as sore. She had nod doubt the bruise was still there- but it didn’t register physically anymore. She let James hold her, imagining he was like a big brother- yes- this must be what it was like to have one. It reminded her of when Joe did something similar, not for something this emotionally extreme but still similar. She could feel the silken fur of Carbuncle’s head smoothing against her neck.
She heard him talk again, and when they finally pulled back again she blinked up at him, sniffling occasionally but genuinely curious. “Really? After all of that?” His face looked sincere, and her eyes welled up again- but she didn’t cry, just wiped her eyes again, smearing more ink- ok- maybe it was best she clean up soon before she looked like a raccoon. It wasn’t too bad yet though- though she could L from death note a run for his money now.
“Thank you James, ...really. I don’t think... I could thank you enough.” Kyla sighed, her voice was a lil hoarse now but she seemed to be calming down now. “ I’d really, really like that. Thank you.” She said accepting his friendship more officially. And the moment she did she felt something shift a little inside her. She felt … like the light from the cornerstone was easier to sense now. Finally parting completely Kyla cleared her throat and finally looked somehow more back to her normal self if you could excuse her face. She took her glasses off and tried to use her sleeves to clean the dried tear streaks and ink from the glass. “- so..umm.. is there anything else I could help you with?” It was a force of habit- since like the outfit from the dress sphere, they would clean themselves.

A Chance to Connect: 17 {James : Disney Castle : Balcony} James simply held her as she continued to cry, Carbuncle cuddling against her neck until they both finally pulled back and she reacted to his declaration of friendship. He chuckled lightly at her response, it admittedly surprised him that she was curious if he was being true about it. It didn't last long though and then she thanked him and gladly accepted it. They both finally broke the hug and the corsair couldn't help but keep smiling as he sat back down, not sure if she would join him or not after she tried to clean up the ink smudges that were on her face. When she asked him if there was anything else she could help him with he figured since she had finally calmed down it was a good opportunity to bring back up what she had eluded to before her melt down. "You mentioned your sin and drawing it out into the open. That means that it's something real within this world right? What is it?"

[Kyla: Disney Castle: Balcony]
Kyla’s expression darkened again, but Carbuncle stuck to her like glue. She just stood there a moment, contemplating whether or not to confess anything. “I think you can tell him-“ the summon spoke up and Kyla looked right into her face like she was saying without words- ARE You Crazy?! But the summon insisted.”- Kyla he’ll understand. I believe you can trust your new friend.”
Kyla looked back to James cautiously like just seeing him for the first time, gauging him-
She was squinting at him, then realized- she didn’t put her glasses back on! NOW able to see him in focus the artist very slowly opened her book. It took all she had to tell Riku about it- could she actually tell it again, and possibly more? “…I..”
The attempt died in her throat. She tried again. Twice. Three times. Finally.
“ It was during the erasure of earth. We were all .. experiencing it- in different ways. The darkness that swallowed people whole.. did things to people as it swept across the land- remember. I bet you saw people go crazy before they were consumed.”
Kyla came closer to him and sat down- in front of him actually. Opening her book, Kyla flipped forward till she found the re-tapped torn page inside. Turning it around she showed it to him.
Using the charms, she sent the visual image to him, only it wasn’t the one Joe had shared. It had more context to it. He saw the creature reared up, bladed hands and arms outstretched as it loud out an ear splitting shriek- It was unlike any heartless, nobody, Geist or apparition the replica’s had made. It was like a wild beast- filled with nothing but pure un-adultered rage! And with the image and sound Kyla sent also the sense of familiarity.
Kyla knew this thing.
She knew it before their journey started.
It- was a she.
And she made her.
“The one who waits for me in the dark. the one I have to find. The sin I have to rectify-I refer to her now as the Nameless.”

A Chance to Connect: 19 {James : Disney Castle : Balcony} At first the corsair wasn't sure if she would tell him or not, and he certainly wouldn't have held it against her if she had. But after looking at him for awhile both without and with her glasses on she finally spoke. It took her a few tries but she finally managed to get the words out. She explained that it had happened at the end of the Earth, before everything was swallowed entirely. She approached him, sitting in front of him as she showed him the page that contained the image of the creature she had created, and then a mental image of the monster reared up, it's blades outstretched as it let out a terrible blood curdling screech the likes of which the corsair had never heard. Much like the vision of the monster with the seven eyes had now been burned into his memories, so too had this creature and it's horrid sound, a sound that he wouldn't forget, especially with his enhanced hearing. That was when Kyla explained what it was, that it was her sin and she referred to it now as the Nameless. "So by your sin, you mean that you created that thing?" he asked, not entirely sure if he should be amazed or appalled at the pictomancer. "It's not like you meant to do it right? You couldn't have known you would actually turn her into the Nameless. I mean that was when we first gained our magic," he stated, trying to fully understand what had happened.

A Chance to Connect: 20 [CONTENT WARNING]
Cue: Shiki [Kyla: Disney Castle: Balcony]
“..it’s possible. But... I knew. For just a moment- I felt it.”
Realizing she wasn't making any sense and t was hard to explain verbally she paraphrased with only flashes of memories passing through his mind at a time in sync with doodles she began to make ona fresh page..
“She got mad at me a lot.”
A woman was standing over him, her eyes wild insane with rage. She clawed at him, shrieking the most obscene things. This was all through the eyes of the beholder.
“I just- had enough. I was sick of all of it.”
The woman was in her room. She was mad again. She charged right at James out of nowhere and then nothing. It happened again and again. Sometimes he would see nothing, then suddenly daylight- as he was dragged from some hiding place in the closet, under a bed, behind a door.
“I couldn’t tell, no one would listen. So I drew how I felt.”
Hundreds of papers laying around him on the floor. Scribbles, doodle, the skills got better and better and the image got closer and closer to what the final product was. Yes- this image had been brewing over time, for a long long time.
“I had thought long and hard about it. I imagined what ti would be like- if I had the power to make her pay.”
Another memory, this time the viewer was looking down. A finger brought to their lips. Someone smaller, with wide frightened eyes was looking up at him. The door was then shut very quietly before the viewer ran out of the room making steps loud so the screaming banshee gave chase, ignoring the room the viewer had come out of.
Another flash, a sharp pain on the back fo the head- the world spun around. More screaming. As the world roared around them. The skies went dark outside, the viewer rolled over and looked up ather- she was angry.. and smiling at the same time. She had truly gone insane.
“I … was so angry then. It was the smile. She never seemed to enjoy it before. But then-“
“- I was so angry.”
The one curse word echoed through her mind over and over. The derogatory word for a female dog, that was her name to this person.
“I a weakling child any more- with all my heart I wanted to make her pay for this. I had enough. And then..I felt it.”
Yes a strange tingling. A strange awareness she hadn’t felt before. She became keenly aware of where her pictures were all around her. All of them. Her sketchbook was on the floor by her head. As hands enclosed around her neck, and the world got dark and tight- she reached for the horrific drawing.
“ I don’t know why- I just knew it. I could fight back. I didn’t care how, all I remembered was- how much I wanted her to feel how I felt.”
The next happened so quickly. The picture lit up. Lines of gold snaked up her arm and blackened. They shot through her into the hands that gripped her neck- she looked up quickly, the world swimming as she did so- just in time to see the woman throw her head back and scream.
She screamed like she was being stabbed by some unseen weapon, and she reared back and of the artists body. Before her eyes the woman’s body contorted, bones broke, snapped and exchanged placed.
The ink dyed her skin black. Her skin seemed to melt off and away covered in a new layer of shadows that were drawn to her now from every corner of the room. Her skin and muscle bubbles and twisted and re-sewn itself and she never stopped screaming, until the dark snaked up her throat and down into her mouth- she chocked on it. With a shuddering crack her head snapped to one side- but she did not dye.
Her eyes bleed out all color except read. One side of her face seemed to dissolve. When it was finally all over, the Nameless stood there and let out a new unholy howl as the house began to shake at its foundation. It was the end- Kyla cut the memory off as she began to run towards the sound of someone calling for her- a male voice.
James was released and Kyla was there again, sitting on the ground with her hand drawing fragments of the things he saw. Light sketches of parts.
“..I did that to her. I transformed my older sibling- into that monster because of how much I hated them.”
With her freehand she was stroking Carbuncle, and then looked away for it all towards the skyline again. “She’s out there now. Kai’s new toy. Kai who is filled with only the rage I felt then- she’s enjoying using that thing to wreck all sorts of havoc. She gets to hamstring me- while dishing out ‘our’ revenge as much as she likes. I don’t know how much if left of my sibling anymore inside it- perhaps nothing. It would be a mercy I guess.”
Kyla’s face in contrast to moments before was unnaturally solemn, firm… almost cold. Her eyes were narrowed and distant. It would have been hard to say for someone who didn’t know the girl at all to discern if she was simply controlling her motions, hiding them, or if she truly felt nothing.
“Darkness-“ she started up again. “ She can travel through darkness. Teleport and drift like a ghost in the land of the dead- she can move at unnaturally fast speeds and there is not limit to how her body can bend. Think of every Japanese horror flick you saw where those ghosts move- yeah- that’s it. I imagine her shriek is special in some way now. She had one hand with razor talons and the other an actual arm blade attachment. She’d have perfect concealment in the dark- but at least light can drive her away I imagine.”
She was writing these things down as well, she was taking notes on her own recollection. “She’ll feel no pain, and is pumped full of adrenalin and rage nothing can deter it easily. It will just keep coming. It feels nothing but the urge to tear everything apart. Her.. behavior was so.. poisoness- I imagine that’s manifested as something as well. Venom- I don’t know.. I never was specific about that one at the time. I had thought of everything else.”
Kyla was basically recounting this thing like a creature from a game. She truly had designed it.
“That’s where my knowledge ends- Kai only recently returned this picture to me. She’s doing something to it I’m sure of it. This may just be the beginning- right now as we speak my replica maybe making some tweaks of her own. I know I would if I were her. “
" This is why Kyla wants to be able to with stand the darkness. It's the only way she can find the creature now. It can just escape into the world of the shadows whenever it likes and pop up somewhere else. Nameless cna be anywhere at any time. It has no fixed motive anymore so it's path was random- until now."

A Chance to Connect: 21 {James : Disney Castle : Balcony} James stared at her in confusion for a brief moment as she began to explain, but she began to clear things up using a combination of the charms and her magic again. Explaining tidbits about her older sister and how mean she was to Kyla. The simple pictures were more than enough to help get the point across. This feeling while different, was familiar to what the corsair had endured during seventh grade, three quarters of that year had been spent in fear and pain at the hands of three particular bullies. He couldn't imagine what it was like to have that bully be none other than a sibling, and this torment lasted for years... It had taken him three quarters to finally snap, it had taken her far longer, or maybe that it was rather she had snapped but had been unable to do anything until that time. The time when she was finally able to fight back and she took it, in indeed a far more drastic way than most would, she made her pay and he was certain she paid dearly for it as she was transformed before his eyes into the creature now only known as the Nameless. After the drawings had ended she continued to explain what the Nameless could do, useful information for sure for the inevitable battles that were surely to come. She then explained the threat that Kai posed in regards to the Nameless, possibly learning how to control it, bend it to her will, potentially. That was when Carbuncle spoke, explaining why Kyla sought to be able to withstand the darkness and the further dangers the Nameless posed. The corsair wasn't sure what Kyla wanted of him now, his judgement? his disapproval? His understanding? Was it a terrible thing she had done? While it certainly wasn't good, it was understandable given the circumstances she described. People did irrational, even terrible things when pushed to their limits, heck people did far more despicable things for far less it seemed. He knew that all too well. "I understand, I really do," he stated with a heavy sigh. Kyla had given him far more information in this short time than he had ever bargained for, so much more added to his already cluttered mind and memory. "What's important is that you see it as a mistake and you are willing to rectify it, if it can be. You have my understanding, and my support. While I understand your desire to learn to withstand the darkness, I also fear that you may play right into it or Kai's hands by doing so. The Nameless is bound to show itself eventually, it is hard to say what is the best course against it, but to pursue it into the darkness from whence it came is not a sound strategy."

[Kyla: Disney Castle: Balcony]
It was probably what everyone else would say too. But hearing it form James it sank in more. Kyla stopped drawing and looked at all the pictures of the creature: Details of its face, the fingers, and the claws. How half of its body was almost misty for it didn’t keep much of its own shape.
“ I guess waiting for it to appear- risking harm to the innocent bystander was something I just want to avoid. I still do. I don’t know how but Kai’s figured out a way to steer it the way she wants- that alone puts me at a gross disadvantage.”
Carbuncle hopped down form her shoulder and stand in between them, her tail flickered back and forth.
“You understand now then? She doesn’t feel she has the right to decide.” By that the creature was referring to Louis. If Kyla couldn’t save him, and would have to put him out of his misery- what did that mean for her sister?
The girl closed her book and held her face in her hands, propping her elbows on its cover- “If I can’t kill her- how am I supposed to kill someone else, who’s not nearly as gone as she is? I can’t do it. I’m going to let everyone down in that regard. I’d be the biggest hypocrite- condemning someone else while making acceptations for family?”
“I want to save everyone. I know it’s hard and probably impossible but I want to try my hardest- I owe them that. I owe her that.” Her fingers parted a little, her eyes blinked through her disheveled bangs behind her spectacles.
“- They have every reason to be mad at me, I’m a traitor in their midst- harboring the enemy like that. Justifying that I can save him- but I... I just want to have hope.”
Her hands dropped into her lap than and she leaned back, now able to see the sky over James’s head again. “ Back down in the cave- ..Ajora.. did horrible things to me. But I was prepared for that. I wasn’t alone. Louis protected me- he fused with me, almost like a drive. When Kyle showed up out of the blue he was badly hurt. I tried to heal him, take his injuries into myself- but Louis wouldn’t let me suffer like that. Together we took everything from him. But then Ajora did his little trick and once again snatched Kyle from our grasp. I tried or get through to him- but..”
“He couldn’t hear me. Nothing I did or said worked. I wasn’t good enough. He was in danger and it was all my fault. I remember someone shooting me- I should have died then. But Once again Louis came to my rescue- I don’t remember a lot of it.”
“You were taken somewhere else.”
???
Kyla blinked and looked down at her summon confused. The summon turned ot face her partner and decided it was probably a good time to fill her in. “You were spirited away to some sort of castle. It remember it well, there was a fire place and a large bed where they put you.”
“They?” This was the first time Kyla ever heard of any of this- she exchanged a look with James and then returned her attention to Carbuncle. “Who is they?”
“There was a woman there. Very beautiful. She was pale like a ghost and when Louis appeared at last he addressed her with great respect. They were worried about you- you were so close to death then. Louis has no choice but to use that power and explosion to get you out of there in time or you wouldn’t have made it.”
The explosion? It was very hazy- she couldn’t quite remember what happened. There was some sort of light, very close to her chest, the world flashed into darkness and color. Then- next thing she knew she was stumbling back towards Bobbi back at the Throne room. “Did he say who she was?”
“No- but I felt something.” The artist tilted her head in obvious curiosity. “I felt that same presences all us summons do. This woman wasn’t human, or just a ghost- she was more than that. I can’t quite ascertain for sure what her relationship is with Louis but- she watched over you for him until it was safe enough to move you. I have no idea where we were- it wasn’t like the castles in Narnia- it some place completely different- and cut off.” “Cut off?”
“I don’t know I just... felt there wasn’t much else to that place except that room. Maybe it was a barrier, magic or maybe it was really as small as it felt. I couldn’t be sure.”
“Huh…” Kyla leaned back on her hand; she looked thoughtful, the wheels turning behind those glasses of her. “A woman… can you show me? Show us both what you saw?”

{A Chance to Connect : 23 {James : Disney Castle : Balcony} James remained silent as he listened to Kyla continue to speak, this was often the way he was. Listening and then responding after giving it enough thought. There was a lot going on here that much was certain, more than the corsair could hope to understand. That was when Carbuncle spoke up explaining how she felt about Louis, a situation that the corsair didn't really know much about to begin with, most of what had happened with the "Ivalician" had happened while he was being controlled by Ajora. "I wish I understood more how Louis has become divided, the last time I saw any trace of him was on the Dutchman before Ajora took control. I don't get it," he stated contemplatively. "You're not a traitor for harboring someone who needs help within your heart, while Louis has attacked us in the past, his motives have never been entirely clear. Bobbi also has a piece of him within her heart as well. In this case, restoring the whole may be the only way to find out the truth. I have already said I want to save everyone as well, I will do what I can to help both in regards to Louis, and your sister." he concluded his voice quiet, clearly still deep in thought. He fell silent again as he continued to listen as Kyla went on to explain what had happened down in Atlantis to her at the hands of Ajora. What happened when Kyle showed up, everything. Then there was the intriguing mention of her being taken away from the battle by Louis, to some castle, which was when the conversation shifted to her talking to Carbuncle filling in the gaps in Kyla's memory of what had transpired, how there was a woman there, that felt like a summon. He was intrigued by that, not fully sure what it meant either. "Yeah show us," he stated. He remembered Louis was the avatar of Mateus, the summon who was basically a woman bound to armor. He pondered if that had something to do with it.

A chance to Connect: 24
[Kyla: Disney Castle: Balcony]
Cue: Shiki 13th floor The summon nodded and walked up to Kyla, crawling into her lap. The plush creature snuggled close and its gem began to radiate as it used their connection to merge their thoughts together. It played back what she saw- James would be sent the image again through the charms-
From the perspective of the Carbuncle, it was from a much shorter perspective. He saw how she crawled over between the covers to find the – hideous carnage that was Kyla’s back. The torn flesh and exposed bone was being knitted back together by the glow of the summons gemstone. It looked like it had been even worse before but something had been done to heal it to some extent that she was out fo danger the more Carbuncle kept working. Every so often the view turned towards a woman sitting by the bed. Her outline glowing by the fire.
Her pale visage was blue tinted; White silvery hair matched a white dress that was draped around her elegantly all the way to the floor with a thinness that made it look like mist. Her eyes were glazed over- blind to the viewer but they in the strange shape of snowflakes. All together she had no warmth to her- she was like a ghost- and James would feel the sense of familiarity, like she and Carbuncle had something in common. The vision ended with Kyla speaking out loud-
“Wait! I’ve seen her!”
The vision changed direction.
It was now from a 3rd person perspective. Again point of view but somehow detached. “I thought I was dreaming. That it was just another vision Louis was sharing with me- I didn’t realize it was real. “
He saw how she would real out but the image just phased through and fragmented. Her attention turned to a woman who was looking at her. She was so beautiful, with bright blue eyes filled with light, and long raven colored hair. Everythign about her incontrast to what carbuncle saw was not roal loking, regal- her gaze at Kyla was intense before she finally looked away. Both the summon and her partner let the memory go and they were once again blinking at looking at each other in real time.
Kyla looked down to see her book open again and more drawing on the page- she didn’t realize when she had picked it up and began drawing but right now it didn’t matter. She was happy for it because everything they’d seen was in the pages. She even brushed up a few of the details. Now seeing the faces side by side it was clearly the same woman was two different perspectives. “Who is she? A summon?”
“I think so.”
Kyla took a deep breath, it was ragged,- she was so tired and once again she leaned back on her hands.
It was a lot of information to take in. But at least she felt better- something about thinking, contemplating something in a constructive matter always seemed tp help the girl compose herself. She seemed more like the regular Kyla again.
In regards to what James voiced concerning his understanding of Louis, Kyla tried to help him out-
“ I won’t go into details because even now I think there’s more to his story- but like me, his world was like a powder keg to begin with. He suffered a lot. His faith in humanity, our world was already stretched to its limits. When darkness began to take over the and people were destroyed- his own family ..they just lost it. He lost it. That was the straw that broke the horses back- he just,,, couldn’t do anymore. I think that’s where he split. By that it’s like the goodness sin him split away from the part that just couldn’t take it anymore- he snapped.”
“So it was like there were always two minds in Louis both perpetuated by the same goal. One side of him as hell bent on some kind of final Hail Mary- “ “-he’s done everything right before his whole life-and nothing ever turned out well for him, so I guess like Cory it was like -screw the rules, they never worked before- so he was ok with using the darkness to fight for good. Classic Anakin Skywalker deal; innocent at first- then of course it backfires. What was left was a remorseful phantom that was desperate to do what he could to help the rest of us. But the only way he knew how was through the dark methods he possessed. Whenever we were in trouble, in danger, he was always there. A tainted remnant of the person who was always ‘the guardian’ back in his former life. But then.. everything changed when we met.”
We- as in Kyla and him. Something was different. Was it symmetry? She knew what it was like to have no one on your side. Regardless of your past mistakes or how you may look- sometimes … a gesture of trust was like putting coals on someone’s head. It stirred the better side of Louis that was still struggling- and in the end, she got to see him. REALLY see him.
She looked up at James- a soft smile there. He had been so patient, he listened to everything- and for once she didn’t feel like at any moment a viper was about to bite her head off. It allowed her a chance to have a clearer head. Something began to click into place thanks to his kindness and empathy.
“They don’t hate me- do they? They don’t think I’m self-absorbed or selfish- at least... not in the self-serving sort of way.”
Carbuncle uncoiled herself from between Kyla’s book and lap and sat between them again.
“- Noelle was sad, and worried. She was angry that I didn’t trust her to tell her and the others about going off to stop Ajora. Kyle didn’t want to lose me just like I feared losing him. Bobbi was upset because I kept pushing everyone away- I thought I was expendable.” She looked down cast- she still felt that way, and that was a problem-“and they’re all frustrated that their concern wasn’t as obvious to me as it was to everyone else. I should have told Jenny what I knew about Ajora. Kyle came after me because he cares so much and Joe’s pissed off because I clearly wasn’t getting what he had told me before. I was selfish- in the sense I was keeping all this stress to myself.” Suddenly what Yen Sid sounded very different to her-“I-...don’t have to be the only one to face my replica. They want to share in my troubles, just like how I wanted them to rely on me. It was a double standard.”
Kyla smiled bitterly and her eyes got all watery again- putting a hand to her face she shook her head.
“I can’t believe I can be so stupid sometimes. I’m not very fast, or strong, -so thought my intelligence was my best feature. How could I be so dense?”
It was clear now that Kyla just didn't respond well to anger. Anger and violence was all she knew. She was too high strung all the time and overtired. If she sensed any kind of vehemence at all, it was all she could see. She would shut down.
Kyle's talk last night, Riku's words of encouragement, Joe's heart to heart on the train, Bobbi's Tea-time, all those times resonated way stronger then anything else, because they were a polar opposite to her inner demons.
This meant whatever James said right now- she was going to commit it to memory instantly as well.
“Just like I said- somewhere along the line you wrote yourself off. It’s what’s been perpetuating all these problems.” “- but... it’s so embarrassing. I... don’t like this. I mean- I must look crazy to you, completely unstable right? A basket case just like… her. How could can I expect you to trust me knowing how messed up I am?” she asked looking at James.

A Chance to Connect: 25 {James : Disney Castle : Balcony} James watched silently as Carbuncle crawled into her lap and it's gem began to radiate and then the thoughts they shared were projected into James' mind through the charms. He was in the castle, she had mentioned, the room with the bed where Kyla laid, her back a ruined mess as Carbuncle worked on healing it's summoner. Then he saw the woman that they were talking about when suddenly the image shifted again to another image, both the same person, indisputably so in fact, they were different perspectives of the same person. Then the images faded and they were back on the balcony, not that they had ever really left. He looked down at the now open sketchbook and looked at the pages, showing the different appearances, possibly the different sides of this woman. Carbuncle was convinced she was a summon, but if she were, not one that James recognized. This was yet another piece of the puzzle that the corsair would surely be thinking about for some time to come, one more piece of information to add to his cluttered mind. Kyla then went on to explain what she knew of Louis, what had apparently been revealed to her about the earthling before everything that had happened. How they were very similar, why he had acted the way he had originally as an enemy when they first met him. It helped explain a bit more about his personality and about the shift as to why he might have been helping them after that, it was a lot to absorb, and the corsair gathered information best by just remaining silent and listening which is what he did. That was when she looked at him and gave him a soft smile. He had a strong feeling that their talking had done both of them, but definitely her a world of good. Sometimes that was all someone really needed, someone to listen to. She asked him if they hated her, explaining how everyone had felt regarding what had happened with her and Ajora, more discussion of the what seemed to have been one of the most, if not the most significant event that had happened since they started this journey, the corsair felt bad that he had not been there to help. As she continued her ranting she then seemed to finally understand what it was everyone was trying to get at, what they had been trying to get her to understand, that she was not alone, that the trials at hand were not her's alone to face, that they wanted to help, just as much as the corsair did and the corsair simply smiled. "I don't believe they hate you, if they did they would have no desire to help you whatsoever, they would want nothing to do with you, and it's plain to me that that isn't the case," he stated his smile broadening slightly. "They care about you, they wouldn't be angry at you if they didn't. They don't want to see anyone else go astray, either by their own actions, or by the actions of others. They don't want to lose anyone else. As for you, we're all crazy in our own ways," he stated with a slight huff of amusement. "Our differences are what makes us all human, to be friends with someone in my books is to take them and accept them for who they are, the good and the bad. I trust you because of how sincere you have been to me, even though you barely know me. Clearly you trust me, and as a friend, I owe you that trust in return."

[Kyla: Disney Castle: Balcony]
“Nobody is perfect Kyla you know that.” The summon agreed, a tone of amusement in its voice.
“…but.. What if I just don’t do it right? It’s all I’ve ever known. I’m not very good at this-“She didn’t want to mess it up. How could she make it right? What fi she forgot? Things get so crazy all the time and in the stress of it all she could go right back to making the same mistakes again.
Carbuncle could see her worrying and hoping up on its two back legs the little creature put both paws on Kyla’s face since she was low enough to the ground.
“What matters is you keep trying- and Like James, I’ll always be here to remind you. Ok?”
Kyla stared right into those big eyes for a moment. “It’s true isn’t it?”
“hmm?”
“We’re not the same person anymore are we? You were just .. a friend I made up. I made myself believe with all my heart that you were real- but now that you actually are. I can sense it- the place where you and I are not one anymore.”
“- does it hurt?”
She let her shoulders relax, and slowly shook her head. “ No.. I don’t think I feel like I lost anything either. Your voice is just- in my head, in a different way now.” She looked up at James again. “ How does it feel for you? With Fenrir I mean.”

A Chance to Connect: 27 {James : Disney Castle : Balcony} James fell silent again as the conversation naturally flowed from him back to the summon. Kyla seemed to have a very deep connection with Carbuncle, one that ran much deeper than most summons in his books. As they continued talking to each other it was revealed why. As lonely as she had been in her life, it made sense that she had created an imaginary friend, and somehow, through the magic of her heart her friend was Carbuncle now, at least that was the corsair looked at it. He couldn't help but smile lightly as he watched their interaction, it was really quite cute actually, very much like a cat and it's master. "Carbuncle is really something special to you huh?" he asked even though it wasn't really a question directed at her. Then suddenly, she looked back up at him again, asking him how having a summon felt for him. What his connection to Fenrir felt like. "It's definitely interesting, I don't think Fenrir and I have nearly the connection that you do with Carbuncle. The connection feels... familial, but he's unlike any family member I've ever had. He gives me advice during battle, but other than that he's pretty quiet. Hasn't said a thing this entire conversation in fact," he concluded with a small chuckle.

[Kyla: Disney Castle: Balcony]
“Mhm.” Kyla would blush a little but nod even if that question was more of a statement then a question. Carbuncle really was. she really wa slucky to have her. Kyla had no idea where she'd be if their bond wasn't already this strong- she really should be thankful for it.
She found it interesting – the deal with their summons that is. The relationships seemed to vary between people. Their summons could be good, bad, neutral, - they could act independently or even against their partners it seemed. "hmm- not much of a talker huh?"
“Give it time, maybe things will change. I’m not quite sure how this whole things works with them, but I don’t think their appearance is just a random, or coincidence.”
As the summon crawled back onto her lap she took it by the head and rubbed behind both ears with a forefinger and thumb on either side. “For me- Tyue- as I named her originally was my first friend. Ever since I was 5 she was all I had. Despite her outlandish design, it was the most incredible thing when I finally got my first game. I saved up all year for it with nickels and dimes. I remember how shocked I was when I first saw Carbuncle on screen, my heart was leaped into my throat- my best friend was in the game! You could imagine which summon I HAD to have with me at all times since then.” She practically beamed and the cyan furball in question flicked her tail back and forth happily.
“Like any kid- I came up with all sorts of fantasies. But one thing remained the same- “Tyue” would be at my side. You could just- imagine my elation when I got here, who was my partner. Of all the sorts of beings to be- it was her.”
“-even your voice is just how I dreamed it would be.”
“It got me thinking about it- if that was the case, maybe each summon is fundamentally connected to us in some way- by shape, species, element- anything could be a factor. But then again, basing that idea solely on my example is flawed. “
She recalled the other summons- like Maggie’s and and Kyle’s- Ultima. What about Mateus?
“There was something going on- between them, those summons. It’s unclear to me because I don’t know all the mythos behind certain types, or how they varied from world to world. My knowledge was limited that to only 9, 10, and 13.” She shrugged sheepishly-“I played other stuff- I was very fond of the Xenosaga and .hack series.”
She put her book away and got up from off the floor to join James on the bench taking Carbuncle with in her arms. Floor was cold anyway. “Do you think anything about yourself could reference any aspect of Fenrir the wolf of Ragnarok?”

A Chance to Connect: 29 {James : Disney Castle : Balcony} James' smile broadened a bit more as Kyla agreed regarding his statement about Carbuncle. He chuckled lightly she said that Fenrir wasn't much of a talker, and he had to agree. To some extent though he liked it that way. It felt like his thoughts were mostly his own, not having a summon intrude on them every single time was kind of nice. Though connected, Fenrir maintained a sort of solitary existence, quite literally a lone wolf so to say. Kyla was fascinating, in what she had to say, the very deep thoughts that she seemed to have about a lot of things, their summons included. It seemed like she had been thinking about all of these things along the entire journey and until now, had no one she wanted to really share them with, or wasn't sure if anyone would listen, he corsair didn't know which. He listened to her talk about Carbuncle, whom she called Tyue, the name and apparently even similar form that she had to the summon Carbuncle. He couldn't but chuckle lightly. "You would have loved playing FFXI then, the summoner class could summon Carbuncle, and at high enough levels the perpetuation cost on mana was so low a summoner could almost keep it out indefinitely," he stated remembering his days of playing Final Fantasy XI. He listened to her continued explanation regarding what the the fact that Tyue had manifested herself as Kyla's summon could mean, that they were indeed connected in some way, shape, or form. A connection that the corsair wasn't sure about, but he could definitely tell there was something there. Her train of thought then turned to Fenrir of Norse Mythology and asked her if any of his aspects could reference that version. "I don't think so, though I honestly don't know enough about the Norse Mythology to say for sure. I know Fenrir was a son of Loki and the one who killed Thor," he stated though clearly contemplating the possibility. "My manifestation of Fenrir is the Final Fantasy XI version, much like every other aspect of my powers here, the corsair class, the elemental shots, the hexagun. It's clear that my strong connection to that world had some bearing on the form he took. I am familiar with all of his other forms, having played all of the Final Fantasies from seven through thirteen, though I am pretty familiar with the vast majority of the Final Fantasy story lines as well," he stated not at all afraid to show off his obsession, it was something that he openly shared with anyone who was interested. "I'm a pretty big fan of the .hack series too, I found it so fascinating, still do, though I haven't played any of the Xenosaga, I have heard that it is a good series too though." he stated with a slight laugh. The corsair didn't mind where this conversation was going, it was moving away from the doom and gloom of their enemies, fears, and all of that and moving on to more positive, friendlier topics. The kinds of things he liked to discuss with new acquaintances and friends he was getting to know. This was just perfect for the corsair. "So aside from drawing, which it's fairly obvious you're really good at, what else do you do for fun? he asked, trying to keep the conversation going in a positive and comfortable direction.
