"we employ slaves for various reasons, Fianna. for example, the massive amounts of food. or like broog, specialaities in trades or skills. each slave here has something that makes them particularly useful. many slaves here are well versed in pleasure, and are sold to purchasers. but that's part of it only. they are trained also to push my agendas to the persons they are sold to. most of the cooks have a particular dish or type of food they work exceptionally well with. others are trained for gladitorial combat, and I make money on the wagers there of, or use them for personal training."

A drink, before continuing on.

"others are to keep this house in order, wether I am present or not, other tend to Nightmare's equipment and herself, and some, honestly, are bought to be used by the necromancers in my employ for thier personal needs or experimentations. we found that elvish skin, properly utilized, can be used to confine the spirits of other types of spell casters for futher use or learning. Kaden was so generous to provide me with about six or seven hides of his."

Kieran had taken to watching Raziel a moment as they pretty much chatted. Wasn't like the little guy to be so quiet about anything, or to not eat when food was there. And off of his shoulder or head too...he had grown accustomed to it and all of Kieran's fidgety actions showed a certain carefulness to them, as if he was trying to not knock Raziel. And he wasn't even on him at the moment. Habits.

Okay, it was her turn to choke...particularly on the wine she was drinking. And when you spiced your wine with cinnamon and sucked it back really quick from a moment of surprise and you choke...the cinnamon only made it worse. So setting down her glass a coughing fit ensued as she propped an elbow on the table and dropped her head into her hand bracing thumb and index fingers at her temples. He didn't just go there...please dear elvish gods, tell her Malik just didn't go there. And what was 'we'? Slaves and he, not slaves and we.

Fianna kept a straight face despite Malik's little explaination and her daughter's subsequent reaction to aformentioned information. A drink from her glass, setting it down on the table, talking right over Piper's coughing. "All a slave is, is a stripped down servant in every sense of the word. I'm just stating that regardless of term they are referred to...it just seems a bit excess." Yes, Fianna was making conversation in civilized equal status manner. Not lecturing, patronizing, reasoning, or downtroding. Though the eyebrow raise gesture was given at the mention of Kaden and his contribution. "So you do butcher those that deserve it then."

She coughed harder. That was worse...okay now Donquesse, stop choking and speak up to stop the horrid conversation that this could become. She tugged at her collar in habitual fashion...though that kinda made it look like it was choking her and she was coughing from that.

He turned his head toward the violent coughing, but he had missed the reason why so paid it no mind. Piper seemed to be alright after all, merely surprised. After wrestly with instinct, which told him to stay at the window, and common sense, which said to go back to Keiran, Raziel pulled himself from the window. It was silly anyway. he flew back to Keiran's shoulder, but didn't eat, and tried to stop from looking over at the window.

"I haven't finished with him. I had the breakers use him, skin him alive..and had one of my clerics keep him alive. after some time, a few of my necromancers managed to build a gateway to Hate and Fear. he was teh test dummy. torn through both planes in rapid succession. all this last for..Oh I forget. his screams were fine enough. but Piper is the one that shuffled him from the mortal coil. though the necormancers are still experimenting and torturing his spirit. and they'll continue to do so until it doesn't amuse them..or me...or he has no further use for any possible experiment."

A look over at choking piper, chuckling lightly and helping her get over the choking cough, rubbing her back and patting it lightly.

Zahara so badly wanted to say something about Malik and his slaves but then Piper started choking and that just wasn't good. She did stop and raise an eyebrow at Malik for a moment, "Kaden, something tells me he wasn't a willing donor." Fianna's remark only cemented that idea in her mind. She loked at Piper and said, "You okay?" She wasn't sure if she was choking because of Malik's obvious brutality or because of the pleasure slaves. That really peaked her interest but seh wouldn't say anything. "And since you talk so big, just what kind of slave would you make me Malik D'Vinn?"

Kieran had seemed really detached from the conversation a moment...or he just wasn't making a big deal out of it right now. He knew all the directions this could go really, and Piper was overreacting as per usual when she got uncomfortable with the topics and blun talk. His attention wasw on Raziel. "What's so interesting out there, hm little Raziel?"

Yeah Fianna held that look to her that spoke of extreme seriousness. Sure...she was angry with Kaden and all...but of course torture and the ways of 'justice' among the drow were rather forgein to her. And she was trying hard to quell certain feelings. Though she did give a look to Piper as the poor elf wasn't having fun. Has she really done what Malik was implying she did? Made the elven royal think a bit.

Piper merely shook her head to Zahara's question. No, not okay at all. Oh let her die in her plate right now. How did they start talking on this? This was...oh she didn't want to remember this moment...and elves usually remembered everything whether they wanted to or not. And why Kaden?! Why did they have to mention Kaden...why did he have to mention what she did to Kaden! Please just let her suffrocate right now...of course Malik wouldn't have that, proof given by him trying to ease her coughing. Which did a little...but she still wanted to die in her plate.

"As for you, Zahara..you'd I'd probably break into being a fine pleasure slave, then sell you to Tarathiel or someplace. let someone have a mighty drow woman bent down into teh most degrading things I can think to make you. especially to teh spider queen. might as well piss that goddess off nice and good while I'm at it."

More patting and helping Piper breath, rubbing her back lightly.

"and he deserves everything that is happening now for what he did to Piper. in fact I woudl like nothing more than to personally deliver his soul to Lloth herself if I could. and even that I woudl consider lenient punishment."

boy there was venom in that voice. Oh yes he wasn't through with Kaden by a long shot.

Raziel shrugged a bit, uneasy. "There's nothing. But for some reason that has me worried." He played with the draw string on his trousers a moment, trying to look anywhere but out the window. "I keep feeling like soemtihngs moving out there."

"If Kaden's a drow, even though he's male, she would probably reward him for whatever he did to piss you off so badly. I don't know for sure but the Spider Queen tends to be quite a bit fickle at times. Of course she wouldn't honor him, he's male but he would be treated a lot better than most." She chuckled and raised an eyebrow at Malik, "I knew that;s what you'd say." She shrugged, "Whoever you sold me to would get themselves a nice surprise after they bought me." She took another drink adn fiddled with the little bit of food left on her plate. She really didn't want anymore so she just played with it.

A blink and a look out the window himself from where he was seated, idly gnawing on a piece of celery. "Too quiet perhaps to be the good kind of quiet?" Now Raziel had him watching out the window as opposed to bickering and or holding interesting conversation at the table. "Well..it is the Underdark...who knows what is out there...hopefully nothing to worry about...but you can never be too careful."

She picked up her fork and slammed it into the table pointy end first and actually dug it down into the wood, leaving it straight up sticking out of the wood when she let go of it. Using a bow most of your life paid off after all now didn't it? But that was her show of how she felt on where this all was going for the moment until she regained her voice. But her coughing died down and she cringed a little, laying a hand to her chest. Poor lungs took a beating there. A final cough and a few breaths later she turned slightly dulled eyes on Zaraha. "Kaden deserves no honor in any sorts...no matter how much you find it amuzing." Though that's all she would say on Kaden and his 'rewards'.

Fianna looked...none to phased. Merely took a sip of her wine, set her glass down and cleared her throat before giving a little sigh, looking at all in turn that were at the table. Piper being high strung, Malik and Zahara getting into it, and Kieran off in his own world again where apparently Raziel's head drifted to as well. For some reason she felt...amused by this all...proff given by a very brief, barely audible chuckle. "Well...dinner. Interesting as we all hoped."

Hey nodded, wondering what was making him so figety. The more time passed, the more he felt uneasy. Sometihng comming closer...and closer...and why was he suddenly feeling so guilty? Like hed...left something behind or betrayed a best friend? He found hismelf looking at the window again. "It's just a feeling....."

"Kaden was a surface born elf. so he woulnd't be getting any nice treatments I'm sure. but that's enough talk of horrid things. we have plenty to eat, lets enjoy our meals, adn that goes for you piper, I noticed you not eating...and perhaps turn conversation to more pleasent things for those involved?"

Zahara blinked and watched the still twitching fork. Well, that was rather interesting now wasn't it? Piper apparentely found this subject to be terribly...unappealing. But Malik was right, Lloth would sacrifice him in heartbeat, surface born as he was. She was curious about Kaden but didn't think it would be a good idea to say anything. "Indeed." Though whether she said it to Fianna or Malik wasn't quite clear. She looked down at her own plate and then reahed over and pulled the fork outand handed it to Piper, "You use this to eat my friend."

((Insite into the Dwarves of the Fortress; They act out of personal benefit and no alliagence to Tarathiel.))

The sound of hammer ringing on metal was pleasent to the old dwarf's ears. It was the only sound that could make his heart race with the fires of youth, and it was the only sound that would allow him to find some solice in his life. For many years, since he was old enough to swing a hammer, his life was unpleasent by dwarvish standereds.

His people lived to smelt the stones of the earth, and craft the weapons of heroes and the tools of the common man. The liniage of dwarven smiths reached across Shield's people's history, right back to the dawn of civilizations when the first souls were hammered out by the dwarven gods.

The clan fell into hard times when they had to abandon the surface world. Though their mine was deep under the earth, the connections with the surface that were used to trade the metals for other materials or to recieve enchantments from the elves, brought dangerous plagues to the dwarves of the mines. The tunnels had to be sealed, and much of the precious ore was lost. The tribe had to move to a new mine, and only found a shallow iron deposite to work. Within several generations, the mine was emptied of all the usable ore, and the dwarves were forced to migrate, many of the older dwarves simply remained in the dead mine to await their aged fate, but would not allow the youths to dwell in the despair of doom. The clan marched across the depths of the dark, and searched for an ore deposit that might enable them to live a life as their ancestors had, but alas, they only found slavery at the hands of a kingdom that should have never been able to capture them, let alone enslave the sturdy folk.

The gods seemed to abandon the dwarves to slavery, and many lost spirit and wasted away. The youngest and strongest dwarves kept alive, but the majority of the clan was destroyed by the captivity. The Shield Dwarves have always lived for thier style of freedom, and removing them from it also removed their will to live.

Shield could not recall freedom, for he was born a slave. During his servitude, which lasted the majority of his four hundred and fifty seven years, he was forced to labour in the smiths and quaries of the various human masters who claimed ownership over him and many of his kin. But, fate eventually dealt him a wild card that would resque him from this way of life.

One day, after painstakingly endevouring in the quaries, he was resting by the edge of the lake, hoping that some fiend would reach out and smite his soul when the body of a strange ebony skinned man was washed on shore.

The thing was alive, but barely. Appearently, he was ship wreaked or fell overboard, and some how managed to survive the trip to shore. The dwarf looked about to make sure that his 'surveyor' was busy before he walked over to the black skinned sea rat, and gently kicked the creature which caused it to groan.

After a few moments, the creature stirred and rose up. The dwarf and the rat clicked imidiately, forming a rather strange and unprecidented friendship between the two races.

The black skinned rat destroyed the house that claimed ownership over the dwarf clan, and assisted the dwarves in setting up their own secret orginization, the Dwarven Elite, to help succure their survival. To this day, Shield still does not understand how or why the drow decided to help him, and never truly felt wrongly about trusting the very devious and malicious creature. Vile and rank to the bone, yet deep within the chaos, their was a pillar of gental appeal or love.

"Stupid Elf" the smith exclaimed as he shaped the iron into a hinge.

Twenty years passed, the dwarf recieved few communications from the drow, but each one suggested that he was closer to returning to the dwarf's current homeland. The drow seemed eager to destroy the monarchy and rebuild it in his image, or at least he was pretending to care. Shield would probably place his bet on pretending to care, Kimmuriel never really cared much for anything.

When the time came for the rebellion, Shield was approached by the drow in person, and asked if the dwarves had proceded with the plain that he had laid out twenty years before. The tunnels under the capital were dug slowly and efficiently over the two decades, and the materials to build a dwarven stronghold, who's plans were aquired by the drow, were ready and able to be added to the rubble to form the basis of the fortress. The battle went as planned. The ships were ambushed near dock, and the fleet was completely destroyed, save for one ship which the good Drow kept for himself and his evil purposes.

From their, the dwarves were left alone mostly, except for the odd request and trade from the drow, and the merchantile dealings the dwarves invented with the local peoples. Over the several months since the capitol was taken by Jiscal, the dwarves actually doubled their population by indicting slaves into their fold.

One day, they recieved a strange request from Jiscal to join in the fleet as 'equals' to search for an ore deposite the dwarves might be able to manipulate into a functioning mine. Being rather skeptical of the human, with good reason, only Shield agreed to join with the fleet as a blacksmith to work on one of the great sea galleons that the humans had built with the aid of a gnome.

It had been a strange year so far, and it was probably going to become even stranger. "Stupid Elf." Shield muttered again.
