my mom and pops got me a new dress form for christmas, and I still havent put it together. Every night when I go to bed though I plot out designs and stuff. I think that is one of my dreams, to design clothing. I want to make new clothes out of old clothes, recycling... I think it was kinda a new idea when I thought of it back in the early 90's, but since I never got the whip cracking.... oh well.
It's all about time management, isn't it? sweatdrop

Wow, you read my mind! I've wanted one of those for a long time. I am a tiny person though so one my size is extremely expensive and making my own is a pain in the rear.

Oh, do I know what you mean! Those things are pricey no matter what the size, but yes, especially if you have need for one smaller or larger than the "norm". SO unfair! rolleyes I know people of all different sizes, so having just one would never do... I guess one reason I have never bothered! razz

The biggest project I have ever tackled, was making a wedding gown for a "second wedding". It was fun though! It was ice-blue satin, with large panels of lace salvaged from a very old (but once BEAUTIFUL) gown, leg-o-mutton sleeves, and an average train. Then, I made all the flowers... for the bride, bridesmaids, groom and groomsmen, the mothers, etc. Oh, using silk flowers. What project THAT was! stressed

wow, that is seriously ambitious, I don't think I could tackle anything that huge. DO you have pics? I would love to see. Anyone who does wedding dresses impresses the heck out of me, not to mention the whole bridal party!
There is this magazine called... oh heck, now I don't remember. IT's about recycling turned couture, and it is the epitome of what I would love to be doing... lots of extra stitching, layers, tulle, silk, raggedy edges. In fact, it's funny, my gaia avatar has been inspiring me to dress more fun and funky in real life. What about you all?

I know this is going to sound totally lame, but you know what, I'm not sure if I still have a pic of that dress around or not. gonk

Oh, I just really like to sew. When I was a girl, I even had my mom buy a few patterns for me, to make some clothes for my Barbie... I gave those away quite a few years ago to a little cousin.

LOL! You're dressing like your Gaia avi?! You know... that sounds kinda FUNK-ie (I mean, as in "neat" funky 4laugh ).

I have bought countless hats recently.... wear scarves now...and tights (though thats not really new)..... I am not yet carrying around little plushies. But I am considering indulging in some animal eared hats.

and I used to be SO in to barbie. Yes as a kid, but more so in my adult life. I got rid of all of mine back around 5 or 6 years ago I guess. I have moved so many times in my life the whole thing of having STUFF just to be STUFF has gotten irritating. What I can't get rid of yet is all my designer paper, fabric, bedazzler, beads, stamps... and all the other craft supplies. It all represents "what could be", if I were to ever dedicate some time and motivation to myself and to art.

Barbie clothes requires mostly hand sewing and I hate hand sewing unless I'm doing beading or something. I once did most of the beading on a friend's prom gown. We used seed beads gonk and it took forever! We created flames around the waist and around the bottom of the skirt. Talk about mind numbing but gosh was it pretty. Unfortunately that was before I discovered cameras were for more than annoying family or school photos. I'll have to do a project like that again sometime but first I need to finish my Sailor Jupiter cross stitch pillow.

Oh and for the guys, our manly men, you can sew too. Check out cosplay.com Some of those guys have guts others are just too awesome. There are plenty of awesome things guys can make too. I swear it isn't nearly as hard as it looks. Want a cool costume item to make for your daughters, nieces, cousins, what have you? Check out threadbanger.com and make them some fairy wings!!!

I do too... hmm... yep. If you've ever read the outlander series the main guy character in that can knit. Very nice. There is something that just makes me melt when I see a manly man doing something so seemingly feminine. If he can be gentile enough to do such things how might he treat a woman? *shakes head trying to get her mind out of the gutter* Darn you Thistle! Lol.

OMG I love to cross-stitch. Where did you find a pattern like that? The only things I can find in the TEEENY cross-stitch section of my craft stores are either new baby stuff, ugly versions of Disney characters, or bible quotes. I even signed up for freepatterns.com but they are mostly ugly too (and usually way too complicated for my short range of thread colors). =/ Usually I buy the packs that come with the pattern, fabric and threads (counted, not stamped) but I recently bought a pack of threads, an alphabets book and some Aida 14 so I could make my mom's Christmas present (A sign that says "All I Want is a Clean House and a Happy Home". =D) I have some fabric left over, I'm thinking of making some bookmarks. Who wants one? XD

I used to be addicted to yard sales and found hundreds of counted cross stitch books. Plus I buy them off ebay but if you like anime here is my favorite counted cross stitch site: Anime counted cross stitch patterns The lady who runs the site is the best! She even takes requests if you don't see exactly what you want. I am doing the Sailor Jupiter one out of her Sailor Moon collection. I'll post pictures of the finished product in the hobbies forum if I ever finish it. *grumbles about being to busy posting* Lol.

Geez those are huge patterns. O_o

*has sudden desire to go buy hordes of DMC thread* oh god this could get expensive. ><

And LOL at "I hate backstitch. With a vengeance." Hooray! I hate backstitching too! Making my mom's sign was sooooo irritating because there was sooo much backstitching to make the cursive script. >=(

Actually that is what I like most about her patterns you don't have to buy a million colors of thread. For Jupiter I only had to buy 2 of each of the 13 some colors that were needed. I think with tax I only spent like $16 total. I already had the cross stitch fabric though so that saved me a little money. Her patterns never take that make colors. Plus they have a good balance of the two types of area. Some areas have slightly detailed stitches that you have to pay attention to so you don't screw 'em up and the other areas have large chunks of color you can fill in to give your brain a break.

Speaking of giving your brain a break... I really want to go play wow but I really want to stay here and post some more! Wah! I can't decide!
