Jedi Sasquatch CleoSombra Jedi Sasquatch Jikoniau Jedi Sasquatch That's... really weird. Why are people so devoted to this game? It's not really all that weird actually. People care about the game. Why are they devoted? Well, why is anyone ever devoted to anything? Because it's something they like, and want to see more of. Many of the users that play zOMG have made many friends from it, and in the case of those that were here from the beginning maybe they want to see a game completed from start to finish. Everyone chooses what matters, what to spend their time on. For those that chose zOMG it would now be important to continue supporting it, because now at this point the game means something to them. The thing that confuses me though is that when compared to other free MMOs, zOMG is very mediocre.
In your opinion. If you google "top browser mmo," you'll find that zOMG! is ranked pretty high up there. zOMG has something that other MMOs don't. Avatars with tens of thousands of items and hundreds of millions of ways to combine those items. Massive forums so when you want to take a break from the game, you can find something else to do. The fact that I can look however I want without it affecting my gameplay. I can kick EB's a** as a kitten star or a naked chick. The avatars, that's true. I'll give you that. But Gaia is definitely not the only MMO with a big forum.
I wasn't aware that there were other browser MMOs that had forums with over a billion posts and threads in them.

Anyway, this isn't a competition here. Christ, I don't even know why this got started. I should really stop talking.

The thing that confuses me though is that when compared to other free MMOs, zOMG is very mediocre. I don't get why it has all these devoted fans when those people could find much better games for no cost.
I haven't played any other MMO's so I don't think I can really answer that question. On the other hand I've talked to many people that have played other MMO's, and it sounds like they're VERY time consuming. My Aunt and Uncle have been playing this one MMO for years. Looking at it that way I don't think I'd want to play other MMO's. I like zOMG for the fact that it takes time to complete, but not a ton of time. And then after you just hang out and play, there's not really the feel that you need to keep playing to get better. Way more casual, and therefore more fun. At least that's the way I see it *shrugs* ^ zOMG is a CASUAL MMO. No, it isn't time intensive. No, there isn't endless content. However, you can stop playing whenever. You can stop playing and just sit and talk. It's pretty easy, lots of fun, and it doesn't require that I pay a monthly subscription. also, unlike most MMOs, if you start playing zOMG a year after everyone else, you're not a lonely level 1 among the thousands of level 115 supermagekickassdudes. This, to me, is good. also, zOMG is the reason I'm here in the guild. I wanted friends to play with, I made friends here. I like playing zOMG with you guys. And when I don't play, I like talking to you guys <33

We don't love the game for the game. As an actual game, it's a bit weak. We love it for what it represents to gaia.

Nespin Fernagon We don't love the game for the game. As an actual game, it's a bit weak. We love it for what it represents to gaia. This I can understand, I suppose. I was very excited about the idea of a Gaia MMO, because it seemed like an awesome extension of our avatars. We would actually roleplay in a big world where we fight away monsters and all that, that would be awesome.
But in execution, it just really bothered me in a lot of ways. Namely, our avis just stand there like statues. The walking animation looks dumb to me, and it just feels like we're paper cutouts moving around on a big picture. You don't swing a sword at the enemy, you press a button and a sword appears out of thin air and smacks the enemy.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it just looks and feels too mechanical for me.
Not to mention the fact that the game isn't very long. And I'm glad they took out the tedious grind. Grinding does not equal content, and I'm glad the dev team understands that. But I feel as though there just isn't enough to do.
So yeah, I understand your point of view. I don't agree with it, but I understand it.

The alternative to this mechanical statuesque appearance is severe limitations. I can't be a kitten defeating the endboss. People can't use all the hand accessories that they use. This isn't a flaw in the game. It's part of the game design. Right from the start of its creation, Gaia made it very clear that they didn't want what an avatar is wearing to influence performance in the game. And the staff managed that with the use of rings.
