The old man sighed and shook his head, stoking his beard again. "Nothing is to be done. He requested he do this alone. For all our people. He wants to break the curse upon our blood. The boy will refuse your help, even if I let you speak with him." the elder then stood and pat the healer on the shoulder. "Go home. You look exhausted. If I fear his life is in danger, I will send for you. So don't worry." he said as the guard came to escort the healer out.

The healer knew that this moment could decide his fate in the village. Risk being revealed as a sham, or be killed for whatever he did. But he knew that death was the result, either way, and he knew that something had to be done about the boy. He closed his eyes and tapped the mental link Maria had forced on him. He told her the situation. Within moments, the caw of an eagle was heard. A giant eagle burst into the house, flew to the healer, guard, and elder, batting his wings around. The healer tried to usher the guard and elder out of the room, and the eagle did as Maria told it, separating the guard and the elder from the healer, chasing the guard and elder. The healer dashed down the hallway and found the boy's room. A second eagle appeared and slammed through the window. The healer shook the boy, trying to wake him, before giving up. The eagle took the boy gently in his beak, pulled him from the house, and gently batted the healer out the window, making sure to catch him in his talons before dropping him to a safer distance on the ground. The healer shouted for more guards, and more came, throwing spears at the eagle. The eagle dropped the boy just as a dark figure on a horse dashed underneath. In only moments, the figure disappeared into the shadows and escaped the town, leaving a healer with a hurt arm and a few shallow scratches on his cheek.

The elder was almost too astonished to do anything. Until that second eagle burst in upstairs. The old man knew what was happening and this was unacceptable. The old man used a powerful barrier magic to repel the eagle as he sent guards to go after his grandson. The elder then went into the square and transformed into a small raven, flying after the horseman. Such eyes were indeed old, but still keen, watching this kidnapper steal their little heir.
Said little raven was waking up from being jostled around so much. He found himself on a black horse and not in the awesome bed he had been sleeping in. This made him snap awake and fight his hardest against the rider. "Let me go! I said get off! I need to go back! Now put me down you crazy idiot!" he yelled, kicking and punching with all his fight. Of course his strength wasn't what it was usually due to giving his energy to all the lights.

Maria rolled her eyes as the raven boy struggled, and a pair of snakes dropped from the trees onto the boy, winding themselves around him to keep him from thrashing. She urged the horse to run faster, as an eagle cawed in the distance to tell her that a raven was following them.

The boy continued to fight, trying to get the snakes off him. Finally he resolved not fighting the rider, but jumping off the horse. He managed to hop to his feet, over the rider then jumping off the horse's rear end before ducking into the trees for cover from the eagle above. The elder raven dove after the boy, quickly getting to him first. He then used barrier magic to push the snakes off his grandson before using another spell to hide their presence as they started back for the village.

Maria growled unhappily as the boy managed to quickly escaped. The horse came to a stop, then turned. She knew that the other stupid raven was probably taking the boy back to the village to be drained of some more life. She wasn't even sure whether she was doing this to have company in her misery at Mesilici, or if she was doing it for the stupid raven, but she didn't care. A challenge had clearly been issued, and she was going to win.

Once back at the village, the elder brought the boy to another home as the first one was being repaired. The old man looked the boy over, asking if he was alright. The boy nodded, but he was tired. He just wanted some sleep right now.The elder noticed and was happy to oblige, leading the boy to another bed that was just as comfy. The boy flopped onto it and smiled as his grandfather laid a thick blanket over him, letting him fall asleep once more. After the boy was asleep, the elder put up another barrier, this one around the entire house to shield it from Maria and her animals' prying eyes.

Maria glared at the town as she felt the extra magic being put up. This plan wouldn't work a second time, she knew that. She'd have to come up with another one. The problem was that she had no talent for strategy. Whether Kuro got it all, or neither of them had, she didn't know. But she was better at improvising on the spot and planning short term. She hadn't come up with a back up plan. And she knew that in the next day or so one of her parents would miss her at the castle. She wondered who would miss this raven boy. Would anyone relate the disappearances? She patted the horse's neck before sliding off him and sending him back to his forest. She would find a way into that town and find a way for the raven to get out. Nobody left Mesilici and got away with it--she knew that.

The boy slept contently the remainder of the night. And what a good sleep it was. He had never slept that well at Mesilici. But the boy was up and about around late morning. The elder let the boy roam to his content, letting him go to the markets to get something to eat. So the boy headed out, wondering what kind of food was still around. Eventually he found an old noodle stand and ordered a nice warm bowl of noodles and broth. The raven took his bowl and sat under a tree, beginning to eat.

Maria, back on her cliff, watched as the boy left his house and went to find food. When he sat beneath a tree, she smirked. Calling out, she soon had an array of birds surrounding her. She picked a raven and a crow, and sent them down into the village. The crow shrieked at the boy, and the raven pretended to bat the crow from the sky. The two circled each other in front of the raven. Maria was trying to figure out anything that might help her from this boy. If she could figure out what made him tick...Well she might be able to unchain that soul and get him out of there.

The boy ate his noodles until a crow cawed at him, startling him. And in his surprise, he spilled hot broth all over his hand, making him hiss in pain. He then glared at the birds giving a mighty flap of his wings and blowing both of them away from him. He wanted to be alone, darn it... Maybe enjoy some food and get some rest before night came. The boy up and picked up his bowl, taking it back to the house.

Maria had an idea, then, and summoned a whole flock of crows. They flew down, one by one, to the boy's house, landing on the roof and shrieking loudly.

The boy was again surprised at the crows landing on his roof and shrieking at him, making him drop his bowl. And it promptly shattered as it met the stone street. He glared up at the crows, throwing a rock at one. "You stupid birds!! That was my breakfast!! I hate crows..." he muttered, going back inside.

The injured crow flew to Maria, who patched him up and stroked his head while the other crows cawed at the house continually. It was only a matter of time before they started whatever it was they did to drain the life out of the boy. She frowned, glaring down at the village. Maybe she was just angry because someone was using a child for their own personal goals, and since her "mother" she'd learned to very much dislike that.

The boy sat in his bed with a pillow over his ears. After a while, the sun was setting and both the boy and his grandfather exited the smaller house. They walked back to the larger home which was still under repair. But before they entered, the man stopped the boy and looked to him. "Are you sure you want to do this? You have a choice. You could go back to school." the man said, looking at the boy who shook his head. "No. I want to do this. I want to help..."
